An Upcoming Change to our Submission Process

An announcement from the PCGS Staff: https://l.pcgs.com/service-changes-forum

  • If you have not yet experienced the simplicity and convenience of our Online Submission Center (OSC), now is the time to make the move. As of January 1, 2027, the following grading services will be available exclusively through our OSC:
  1. Raw Coin Grading — evaluates a coin's condition and assigns a standardized grade based on wear, preservation, strike, and eye appeal.
  2. Regrade — applies to coins that are already encapsulated and graded by PCGS.
  3. Reholder — applies to coins that are currently graded and encapsulated by PCGS that you would like placed into the most current PCGS holder.
  4. Crossover — a coin graded by another company is evaluated in its current holder.
  5. Reconsideration — allows you to submit your coins for regrading.
  • The OSC allows collectors and dealers to prepare coin submissions with online forms that are filled out using an alphanumerical keypad. The service improves efficiency and is more convenient and less painstaking than writing the information for each submission by hand on a printed form. For the time being, some services will remain available only using paper forms:
  1. Banknote Grading
  2. Restoration
  3. Bulk Submissions
  4. On-Site Show Grading
  • As online submission is made available for new services, paper forms will remain available for six months after the service is activated on the OSC. Once the six-month grace period has passed, paper forms will no longer be accepted for that service.

    @PCGS_Hy @pcgs_social
Questions abound. For example, on a Reholder into a double holder, the directions here: https://www.pcgs.com/news/new-from-pcgs-put-two-coins-in-one-holder clearly say to "Notate "Two Coin Holder" on the "Other" service line." This is not possible in the OSC. Will the OSC be upgraded to account for double holder reholders or will the double holder instructions be updated? I'm sure there are many other cases and questions like this.

Are there any plans that we don't have to submit 4 copies of forms?

My experience is that "the simplicity and convenience" of the Online Submission Center, is for the convenience of PCGS and not necessarily the submitter.

Agree that online forms must have some space or other ability to include notes that we would currently just handwrite on the form. Dual holdering is a great example, but I've also been unable to use the current online submission forms for newly released coins that aren't yet in the PCGS system and don't have a coin number. Needed to hand write those as well as I couldn't just manually type in the information in the online submission center.

Glad to hear this. It always made little sense to me that I was entering the order online and had to print all those copies out to mail with the submission.
I wish if I was entering US coins, the default was to assume the next coin I was entering would also be a US Coin instead of having to toggle it each time.

Hey y'all, thank you for these questions! For now, Customer Care would like y'all to add the request in the "Item Details" section of the OSC. It is in the same section where you list the Declared Value, Service Type, and Add-Ons. See the photo for an example on how to format your request.

I believe the goal is to eventually have it on the OSC but for now we can do this.

How about putting it on the "Item Details" for now? It is in the same section where you add the declared value. I like that you can add a comment about a specific coin. If you think there would be a more efficient way to leave comments, please let me know and I can pass this along to our Product and Tech team. I'm sure they would love the feedback. The good thing is that there's still some time to work out all these things before the grace period ends :)

We appreciate the candid feedback, @Southcounty. Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible for submitters, not harder. If there are specific friction points or features you’d like to see improved, please let us know. We genuinely want to make the submission process the best it can be for you.

Is Customer Care expecting its entire customer base to know to come to the forums to see this post to see that the instructions have changed instead of following the instructions on the page I linked? The OSC does not support an "Other" service level. Adding the details as you suggest does not change the service level.

You’re making a mountain out of a molehill. How many “reholder into dual holder” submissions do you think PCGS gets? How many people are referencing a 14 year old article about it? I’m sure submitters will figure out to put the instructions in the notes. The very small number of ones that don’t will contact PCGS for clarification.

I already flagged this to the appropriate teams! We're working on adding info for the two coin holders to https://www.pcgs.com/holders instead, so we can have a single centralized place. Again, our team is working through the kinks ahead of the end of the grace period, and people can always contact us via our support contacts or our socials (which I also manage) and we can help them out!

    Thank you :)

I'm not though. Submitters can either reference the old article or race to be one of the first callers when the phone lines open in the morning to talk to customer service about it. Otherwise the forms get filled out wrong. I think PCGS management would prefer to have accurate info on the website to reduce the call volume. And FWIW, I referenced it last week for a submission I made.

Further, as I noted, that's just one example. For a more recent case reference: https://www.pcgs.com/labels/AmericaSemiquincentennial where it says: For the America Semiquincentennial Special Label, under the “Special Label / Holder” line in the service level section of the submission form (Section 6), indicate “America’s 250th Label #948” in addition to a service level. The appropriate label will be matched with the corresponding coin." You can't do this in the OSC. Yes there is place to specify the special label, but you cannot augment the service level as required for this label.

So clearly the OSC lacks the functionality that is requested by even the most recent special offerings, and PCGS needs to clearly communicate to us how they are either modifying these requirements or if they will be fixing the OSC to operate as needed.

FWIW, hopefully you didn't limit it to 2. You have other multi coin holders, I've seen them with up to 4. I don't know if any other options exist.

Yep and also for the 2026 Quarter Quest where people were trying to get the $5000 bounty or the early find labels for the July 4th quarters, you had to write in FD26 on the line (and on the outside of your package too). Had to use paper submission forms for that as I couldn't with the online form.

When recently submitting some of the 2026 Trump Dollars w/ the July 4th privy, the online form didn't have a coin number for it yet (this was early on - probably ok now). Since I couldn't list the coins for the form, had to use paper forms as well.

Hopefully the online form will have a way to manually enter a coin w/o a coin number or looking up in the system for cases where that doesn't work.

I just complete an online submission form a couple days ago. First time using the online system. A little clunky, Not sure I am a great fan, but it worked. I submitted four of the trump dollars, three privy and one non-privy. I was able to select both first strike and special label "America's 250th Label #948". Both are printed on my submission form under the "ADD'L SERVICES" box.

Of course I filled this out the day before the quarterly special removed the $10 handling fee. Hopefully I'll get a red box out of the deal.
