Tony Romo may have been a little over the top for some viewers but I always liked his level of excitement and interest in the game at hand. I thought he made some insightful analysis that is sadly lacking in many broadcasts.
I am also sick to death of all the “Cancel Culture” BS in our society.

Uhhhhh, I don't know, Jim.
This right here has been a running joke with me and my buddies for so long now 😂😂😂
I couldn't agree more about the cancel culture nonsense
The guy got a DWI, it happens and it has nothing to do with his ability to do his job, it was a victimless crime
I'm not a Romo fan but this is ridiculous
Pat Summerall
Used to be DWI, changed it to DUI and now in Ohio I think it's called OVI. Our fine Legislators can't seem to make up their minds about terminology. I got mine, DUI, in 1994 almost 32 years to the day and reckon most of us have been there. Once was enough.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
It's his voice I hear in my subconscious mind when I'm on eBay and trying to decide whether or not to bid on an expensive card.
Never got a DUI but could have gotten one numerous times in my teens and early twenties, if I had been stopped. Why was I never stopped? Because while under the influence, I never drove over the speed limit, and made sure I was well under it. Also made sure I kept my eyes on the road, and stayed in the right lane the entire way when on a highway. IE: I didn't drive fast or erratically.
Frankly it astonishes me how some seem to want to drive faster when they're intoxicated, and/or weave in and out of traffic. They are just looking for trouble it seems, and they too often find it.
You guys know how conservative they are at Paramount. They don't want no crazy drunks on their announcing team. Tony belongs at a place like ESPN where almost anything is tolerable.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
next time you're riding the fence, watch this prior to pulling the trigger and it'll provide the clarity you need
That's Tony in the bedroom or savoring the taste of a delicious double fudge brownie.
My Aunt was hit by a drunk driver in 1994 on her way to a Christmas Eve. party. Not in Ohio though so Maywood is off the hook.
So does Romo still get paid?
" Romo's contract, worth $180 million over 10 years, was set to run until 2030"
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
I read "a good part of the remaining $72M to walk away.."
Ill go get a DUI right now if someone wants to pay me millions to not work anymore
The cancel culture is complete BS and all network executives need to be fired. There wouldnt even be an NFL if we held the players to the same standards. Romo gets pulled over drunk and gets fired, players can beat their wives and gfs and just get fined. Yea okay

Way too many people have their lives ended by drunk drivers and that easily could have happened in his situation.
And it always seems like it’s the drunk bastard who is completely unharmed while people in the other vehicle get killed. He should be in jail right now and that would make announcing a moot point.
Its the booze why they generally survive more. They usually are driving faster for more force and the drunk person their body stays lose and relaxed instead of tensing up reducing the force of impact
Fire AJ Preller
Wow, not only is the basebal gu an expert in all things Sports related, he is also an expert in analyzing the dynamics involved in a car accident. Is there no end to it??!!?? 😂😂
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
Everyone has heard that if you’re relaxed your body doesn’t tense and that’s an effect prescribed to alcohol. Like most folksy BS it has no scientific basis and the data says otherwise.
It’s a bold idea but completely not true.
And here it is, just like clockwork, after I post that chs guy shows up to post!! 😂😂 You realize, of course, that since you’re on the “ignore list” I never see any of your stupid replies. But I like your persistence, so please continue. ☝️

I guess if I think about it I forget what I was thinking about and just move onto something else.
Right on time, atta boy!!!

There actually is evidence or was anyway. Its not just karma. I did my masters thesis on drunk driving., enforcement, arrests, accidents etc whole 9 yards. That was years ago and even then with advances in medicine and air bags etc death rates were plummeting so it might not matter much anymore. Just like some fighters will leave a small layer of stomach fat for a little cushion you do absorb impacts better when youre loser if you arent going to be the one delivering the hit. Go do an Oklahoma drill with a buddy and just stand there. Itll hurt less being lose going with the impact than tensing up and getting truck sticked
Also I dont know if I should laugh or feel sad that someone so old constantly shows they cant have mature interactions with people. My best friends 10 year old daughter is more mature interacting with people
Fire AJ Preller
Well I won't argue with someone with a Masters in Thesis., but I would challenge you to, for yourself, search out some data that supports the "deceleration injury theory". The concept comes from the fact that Drunk drivers are involved in more accidents than unimpaired motorists, and Drunk drivers are the cause of more vehicle accidents. Here the thinking man begins to reason as to what types of accidents are most common. We don't hear about the statistics on how many impaired motorists die in crashes without other vehicles involved. We hear about the guy who was so drunk that when he plowed into the side of a family of 6 he flew through the window and survived. Heck. He walked away and was found eating a burrito at a nearby bodega. More often than not the injury to the impaired motorist who did not see the accident coming is more severe, but we don't hear about those because that's what we expect. It's just that more often the drunk driver is the one doing the plowing into and not the one being plowed upon. No one from the insurance industry reviewed your thesis? Nay a peek? I joke here because it's something I commonly hear. It's just wrong. Completely wrong. You still hear it and sometimes it happens, but that doesn't mean it's because they were loose as a goose... No. That's not how randomness works.
I bet this is one of those ones where you're not going to do my research for me and I need to go find the evidence that doesn't exist on my own. Those are fun.
you have it 100% correct. i have ZERO sympathy toward drunk/impaired drivers. I have had situations in my life changed pretty drastically because of the poor and selfish choices of others.
i dont think many people take OUI/DUI very seriously. well, it is a very serious thing. it is a choice. as far as i am concerned, one strike and you are out. get caught, no more driving. ever. period.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I think the idea that it’s not zero tolerance hurts because you’re asking people who have diminished capacity for reasoning to reason a subjective limit.
On the Romo situation I don’t think it’s a reason to lose his job. But it’s an opportunity for someone in his position to provide visibility to a situation that impacts a lot of lives. So I would have recommended a different path but the choice was to avoid the tough conversation. I wouldn’t wrap this up with cancel culture either though. It’s not a victimless crime.
I dont think an OUI should mean an automatic firing. I think it should be left up the the employer if they want to fire an employee with an OUI. I can understand why they would want to, as it is a shameful conviction (and it should be) but I think making it a legal penalty, to automatically lose your job is a step too far.
I do stand by the one strike and you are all done driving (forever) if convicted of OUI. It is a choice some folks make that can severely affect others and should be punished as such.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
There are many videos on Youtube about drunk drivers fatally killing others in car crashes. Usually the videos are about police chases, filmed live from the police cameras, while the chase is going on.
At the end of the video, it usually shows the prior record of the suspect, and their punishment if a plea bargain or trial has already taken place. Almost always, the DUI driver who caused the fatality, has had at least one, sometimes multiple DUI convictions before. Many times the driver did not receive any prison time, and just ignored the previous probation, etc sentencing.
Well they all finally received a prison sentence for causing the fatalities. Of course that doesn't do the now deceased innocent victims any good. Or the victims who may have been permanently injured.
Reminds me of the phrase "Having a drivers license is a privilege, not a right".
Overall it's not a victimless crime, what I meant was nobody was hurt in this situation but overall it has impacted way too many people
I will shamefully admit I drove drunk for over 30 years, thankfully I never hurt anyone.
I stopped drinking and driving in 2019, again I was a danger to people while doing this, I will admit I stopped before hurting anyone and I'm thankful that my moronic decisions didn't harm anyone.
Honestly with Uber and Lift available it's such an easy decision to go that route
I will walk if I can't get an Uber several times recently I have been stuck at the casino drunk and couldn't get a ride home so I did the 5 mile walk home at 1am
Regarding Romo I think he should have been required to do community service and used his name to advertise the dangers of it to remind people of the consequences, idk I'm not a fan of him losing his job over it
Other high paying careers have survived this type of thing
i may be in the minority with this train of thought, but i think CBS' decision extended beyond what he did. he was turning into a liability in the booth. the novelty was quickly wearing off compared to the early days of him doing his best nostradamus impersonation. it reached the point where he was dragging Jim Nantz down, imo, and i suspect some of the higher-ups felt the same way.
he'll get another gig in due time, probably at Fox
it's not that i dislike Watt, but what i would love to see is Greg Olsen jump ship and team up with Nantz. he's too good to be buried at Fox. i'm still annoyed that i'm subjected to Brady when i was perfectly content with Burkhardt-Olsen
I think you may be right. gets CBS out of a huge contract for an analyst who was losing popularity
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
But I thought he was getting paid out
oh, is he? I assumed there must have been a "character clause" in his contract.

Drinking and Driving is one of the Social Ills that has no easy solution. As an example: I’m quite certain it is against the Law in most states to serve an intoxicated person. If that was enforced pretty much every bar, restaurant and sporting venue would be in violation and lose their liquor license. But the individual with the impaired mental judgement to decide whether to drive is the one who pays the penalty.
Welcome to America where it’s all about money.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
Law enforcement could hang out by every bar late Friday or Saturday night and take their pick. But then bars may close, tax revenue lost. Liquor license fees would drop. Round and round the system goes.
What it really comes down, as I said, is money. There are laws to cover all sides of this equation but those on one side would dry up revenue streams like you said. It’s easier to target the other side of the stream which actually increases revenue.
@perkdog hit on the solution, get as drunk as you want and call UBER or some other service. BTW, walking or riding a bicycle aren’t good options.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
Some states have "dram shop" laws which let victims sue the establishment that overserved. Minnesota is one. DUI would not be a money maker from an enforcement perspective though as those are cases which cost the state a lot of money to prosecute. DUI enforcement pays for itself in public good - accidents prevented. Speed traps or universal stops are the more lucrative model vs. enforcing conviction or watching bars - which I suspect is still done pretty often.
License fees are usually like a few thousand $$$ though so I don't think this is a big revenue stream for states. If the laws were to change to hold these establishments accountable it would need to take a more objective form as to what "visibly intoxicated" means. It would impact those businesses (losing a license or being fined or more expensive insurance) and that would be more of a deterrent to overserve but it wouldn't impact revenue for states.
Of course the problem isn't just alcohol, but recreational drugs as well. Guy I knew in high school, was almost always stoned on marijuana whenever I saw him. We weren't friends, but friendly, and hung out in a similar crowd. He had a van. Anyway there's a very dangerous roadway containing a busy gas station. After getting gas, when pulling on to the road, you've got to be very careful for a number of reasons. Well one day I heard that while in his van, he was pancaked by an eighteen wheeler at that site. Never heard anything more about it, but I'd be sure he was stoned at the time. The only good news, he was alone at the time, and didn't take anyone else with him.
I recall one Saturday night, I'm at a house party, perhaps around 2 miles from my house where I was still living with my parents. I had driven there.
Long story short, only time this ever happened to me. The party is winding down late at night, only a few of us left. I walk outside to get into my car and I'm literally seeing double. I didn't do drugs, even back then, it was all from beer and way too many shots of hard liquor. Anyway, easy decision, no way I'm driving home in this condition. Those still at the party were in as bad a shape as me, if not worse, so i certainly wasn't going to ask them for a ride home. So I just walked the two miles home. No big deal, it's a safe suburban neighborhood, and I was in good physical shape.
Next day, early afternoon, I just walked back and got my car. I didn't want to ask anyone for a ride, as I was a bit embarrassed about myself getting that inebriated. Would have called Uber, but it wasn't available back then.
i went to see my alma mater play Texas Tech two years ago, and what i witnessed defied belief
it was a frat party in the stands
not only were they serving booze to students, but they were allowing them to purchase MULTIPLE beers
i saw kids who probably hadn't shaved in their lives double fisting tall boys
right on cue, this happened following the game:
https://redraiderswire.usatoday.com/story/news/local/2024/09/01/abilene-christian-university-football-bus-crashes-after-texas-tech-game/75039356007/
followed by the obligatory feigning of rage, clutching the pop tarts out of pearls...................then rinse and repeat at the next Tech home game i'm sure
gee, i wonder why so many people die at the hands of drunks
because the proliferation of it is allowed
I have never understood the whole drinking thing. I witnessed how drinking can affect people from a young age. During my school/university years I also witnessed people acting the fool and engaging in very risky/dangerous behavior when drinking. It seemed a very gray and hazy line between being inebriated or not.
I chose to never do it myself. it seemed both too risky, and i have never felt the desire to alter my reality/perceptions by using alcohol.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I can tell you, that you sure didn't miss much.
