Will TPGs ever attribute "Full hair" or "full feather" on peace dollars? The mushy San fran mint
I've been collecting peace dollars for well over 10 years. I'd even dare to say they are my favorite coin. However so many peace dollars are weakly struck. The 1922-s and 1923-s are especially notorious for weak strikes despite mintages of 17 and 19 million.
Anyway I'm always on the hunt for well struck examples of typically weak struck coins. I picked up these amazing 22-s and 23-s peace dollars recently. They have the best strikes I think I've ever seen on these years/mint marks. The 22-s has die cracks so perhaps that's why it's struck so well. Tpg graded them both ms63. The 23-s luster is softer while the 22-s has blinding luster.

I'm curious - tpgs offer things like full head on quarters and full bands on dimes...will they ever offer something similar on peace dollars? I personally think it would wildly shake up the market as I don't think most people fully realize how bad most of these coins look even with high mintage!

Extremely doubtful.

I doubt it and very few issues would seemingly be affected. The main culprit is the 1921 and maybe some of the San Francisco pieces to a much lesser extent. I think collectors already know that and account for it in bidding. Of course, I can make the same argument about other strike designations too.
The last photo looks like a D mint mark (screen shot below).
As far as the question asked - I hope not.

Ugh - you have better eyes than me. You are totally correct. Label says 23-s but it is infact a D mint mark. Guess that explains the great strike on it.
I don't have a lot in the coin but now I'm not so sure i even want to keep it. What a disappointment! Thanks for pointing it out though, i do appreciate that.
Why would you even ask that such a practice would be inflicted upon us? I mean we already have bogus and non-standardized FH, FBL, FB, FS, RD, BN, RB, CAM, DCAM and whatever else designations appended to grades for certain series and enough of what we see in the market is a head-scratcher.

Is there money to be made by the "right" people?
This. It’s the deeply cynical but wise and truthful description.
No money to be made here, I've never even had a coin graded lol. I just really enjoy the hunt and looking for those good strikes. Sadly I struck out with my original post since my 22-s turned out to be mislabeled and it was an actual 22-d.
I did score another 22-s 63 this week. I'm pretty happy with the strike on it. This one is actually a 22-s
