Ebay scammer using our picture for his auction

Here's an ebay seller using our image directly linked from the Coin World website. I hope he'll be a little surprised next time he takes a look. Thanks for Mark Feld for pointing this out to us. Also, the guy used one of the worst pictures he could have possibly chosen, how embarassing. image No need to report him to ebay, hopefully the shock of seeing the picture will give him the spanking he deserves.

Yeah, that is a terrible photo. All those words really distract from the coin image

I like your style. It would take forever for Ebay to do anything. Maybe the seller will not even notice.image

Actually my mind was racing with possibilities for some substitute pictures, but I don't think Coin World would have approved of us uploading them the their site. image

So far no retractions... Wonder how long that will take...

    Marty,

I'm not retracting MY bid and I doubt anyone will top my $20,000 limit! image I wanted to be sure no one got ripped off and placed my bid before I emailed RCNH (and therefore before they added their little "message" to the link) to let them know of the scam.

That's great, if you had to wait for eBay to act , it would be too late.

Wayne, I was virtually certain, as soon as I saw the Ebay listing, that it was a scam. But, the seller's listing the RCNH ID# sure made it easier for me to figure out who really owned the coin! image

    Rella,

Your guys Ebay ID says that he joined Ebay on 4 Feb 03, with country of origin as Australia. But the auction says Amsterdam, United States.

We do have an Amsterdam NY, But I am not sure about an Amsterdam United States. Dead Giveaway.

LOL Tonelover that was truely priceless... If only we could deal with all these folks in similar fashion ebay would be a much better place.

    Got Morgan?

That is definately one of the funniest things I've seen on e-Bay! Congratulations for putting a scammer in his place.

With street justice like that who needs Safeharbor? I had a total blast doing it and am glad to have brightened some of your days.

On a more serious note, I think it's important for people to realize how dangerous of a place ebay really is to buy coins or anything else.

Thanks again to Mark from Pinnacle Rarities to alerting us to this matter. Much appreciated!

The 1856 flying eagle Mike found is an image stolen from David Lawrence. Probably worth send them a note.

Edited to add: I emailed D. Lawrence about this.

Greg, in answer to your first question - yes, I am. Please don't tell anyone, though. image

I have heard about bondman22 but I bid prices I was comfortable with - but I did not meet the reserves.

OK, I'll admit I'm embarassed because I don't know what everyone is laughing about. image I see the images of the coin, front & back, but I don't see anything that jumps out at me as far as "getting back" at someone. Did the seller replace the switched images? Or am I just totally missing it?

Boy, what a bunch of dummies. They should of at least copied the pics to their own site or posted it through Ipix. Best one I saw was a similar image rip-off scam and the owner of the pic/site changed the pic to some anatomical parts image

LOL Next time, let the bids run up then in the last hour change the pic and watch everyone bail out.
