excited to see what these things look like IRL as opposed to sketches

like an old sears & roebuck catalog; people making purchase decisions based off drawings

U.S. Mint Freedom 250 Race Medal Preorder Numbers
The 2026 Freedom 250 Race Medal from the U.S. Mint had a mintage ceiling of 15,000 pieces and was sold exclusively through a two‑week preorder window from August 21 to September 4, 2026

    .

According to CoinNews, the preorder window opened with 5,105 medals sold in the first day, and another 3,137 were added in the following week, bringing the total to 8,242 medals by August 30 — about 54.9% of the maximum mintage

    .

By the time the window closed on September 4, CoinNews estimated that roughly 3,500 medals remained available before the cutoff

. This means the Mint did not sell out, and the final total sold during the preorder period was about 11,742 medals (8,242 + 3,500), leaving 3,258 medals unsold.

    From today's Coin News:

_Freedom 250 Race Medal Leads Returning Products
Outside the new releases, the Freedom 250 Race Medal led returning products with a gain of 3,181 to 11,423. The $60 half dollar-sized medal celebrates America’s 250th anniversary and the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix while also honoring motorsports pioneer Roger Penske.

It was offered during a limited preorder window that closed Sept. 4._

WALLE was nearly on the money with his/her estimate. :)

I'm confused by what Coin News is saying here.

Does "returning products" mean returned products? These haven't even shipped yet so how have any been returned? Do they mean "canceled"?

Also, if they are referring to cancelations, what does this mean: led returning products with a gain of 3,181 to 11,423.

If medals are canceled/returned then the number sold is decreased, not increased (loss, not gain).

    What am I missing here?

JBK: Here's a link to the article:
    https://www.coinnews.net/2026/09/09/sales-trump-1-palladium-eagle/

I don't think you're missing anything. The article recaps sales of a wide variety of items. In this context, I believe the author is indicating the medals were returning to the sales list and they logged an additional 3,181 units sold since the previous report. . .

    Ok thx

Looks like those are the additional sold between the Aug 30 report and the September 4 cutoff.

Apparently you are not alone. There are more reports coming out with the same issue, but I will say that yours looks the best among the ones I've seen so far.

minor stain on the Pensky side. My guess, this may be a common issue. Also, I dislike the way the Mint
    package was sealed.
