These two aren’t too lofty…half cent is a 64 and large cent is a 63. When I was looking for the LC, I was obsessed over the sharpness of the stars…so many weak strikes out there and the flat stars really bother me for some reason. There’s not a single 1837 on CoinFacts with sharper stars, including any of the higher graded coins.

Thanks... I reached a little for the 23/2. It's close to VF details but there's a gouge on the obverse to the right of Ms. Liberty that would likely prevent a straight grade. Otherwise, nice surfaces and decent color. Mea culpa... the 24/2 is a bit of a placeholder... I saw this G6ish VGish example that has all the diagnostics and I spend around $50 on it...

No, it’s a ‘98.
I once thought I owned a ‘99, damaged on the reverse but a decent obverse, but it turned out to be a well made alteration that fooled several EAC dealers, including the seller.
I got the money refunded, but the real kicker was that I passed on the low grade but decent chain cent from the same collection in order to buy the ‘99. Arghhhh!

This one just arrived. I’ve been looking for an RB to match the look of my 54, 55, and 56. For a year or so I had no success. I had bid on a similar 1853 at HA, but was soon eclipsed. I then saw this BIN on eBay, so I knocked off 15% and made an offer, which was immediately accepted. The HA auction bid is currently sitting at 10 times what I got this one for.
Wouldn't straight grade for a number of reasons but it's my best example of the draped bust type and I'm happy with it 😁

Yeah, I'd take it too! I considered the Private Restrike but then thought about using those funds as the basis for a decent Fugio Cent... it's all on hold until next summer though... I ended up spending my coin funds on an engine for my 2015 Honda... grrrr... 1793 Wreath Cent money... :-/

Ebay purchase... initially in a PCGS XF40 holder with crappy images. I think that might have kept the bidding low... I cracked it and had this coin in my album for a few years before making a push to get coins certified, or recertified in this case. ..came back AU50 in this case.

Thanks! I've had this piece in my collection for years and probably spent more than I should have when I bought it. This coin has decent surfaces... no corrosion and it doesn't look to have ever been cleaned. The color is a nice medium to dark brown with sort of a circulated cameo appearance. I'll likely leave this piece in the album... a couple of the coins just next to it on the same page were sent in for certification... 1819/8 and the 1820...

It's not... but "perception is reality" for some. If you're only focused on mintage, there were only 389,000 1821s but the mintage for 1823 is reflected in 1824 mintage figures... 1,262,000. I'm not sure exactly how many 1823s were minted... maybe 200k by some estimates??, but they're d@nm tough to find nice. 1821s may be more of a conditional rarity? I like the Middle Dates in the XF-AU range, but some of them get a bit costly in that range... when you can find one.

Yeah, I'd take it too! I considered the Private Restrike but then thought about using those funds as the basis for a decent Fugio Cent... it's all on hold until next summer though... I ended up spending my coin funds on an engine for my 2015 Honda... grrrr... 1793 Wreath Cent money... :-/

A couple tougher middle dates in AU; the whole run from 1821 through 1830 seem hard to find.
Ebay purchase... initially in a PCGS XF40 holder with crappy images. I think that might have kept the bidding low... I cracked it and had this coin in my album for a few years before making a push to get coins certified, or recertified in this case. ..came back AU50 in this case.

Thanks! I've had this piece in my collection for years and probably spent more than I should have when I bought it. This coin has decent surfaces... no corrosion and it doesn't look to have ever been cleaned. The color is a nice medium to dark brown with sort of a circulated cameo appearance. I'll likely leave this piece in the album... a couple of the coins just next to it on the same page were sent in for certification... 1819/8 and the 1820...

I recently discovered that this coin wasn't what I thought it was:

The "1" is missing part of the top (for lack of a better word), it is too tall, and it is also too distant from the "2". Probably a manipulated date.
The second 1 in the date looks like a 4 that was tooled to make a 1.

Yes, likely tooled from an 1824.
The digit 4 was quite tall relative to the other digits.

It's not... but "perception is reality" for some. If you're only focused on mintage, there were only 389,000 1821s but the mintage for 1823 is reflected in 1824 mintage figures... 1,262,000. I'm not sure exactly how many 1823s were minted... maybe 200k by some estimates??, but they're d@nm tough to find nice. 1821s may be more of a conditional rarity? I like the Middle Dates in the XF-AU range, but some of them get a bit costly in that range... when you can find one.
