I would not. But that's just me. Peace Roy

It depends on what your goals are. It looks like an album coin to me as I do not think it would straight grade. If you are asking from a financial (flipping perspective), I'd try to sell it raw and submit only if the buyer demands authentication.

I would send it in for authenticity purposes.

I’d send it in for restoration. Lol
No, no hope. But to ensure it’s genuine, a good bet.

I sent this in …. See the issue ? Even so , a problem has value. That’s why they have solutions.4 -
Yes, Even though this coin will not straight grade it will be much easier to market if it is authenticated.
All glory is fleeting.8 -
Is the reason that it won't straight grade is because of rim damage, do you believe that it's been cleaned, or something else?

Anyone else think the VDB in the OP coins looks “sus”? If not even more reason to get slabbed.
Casual collector: Morgans & Peace Dollars & 20th Century Type Set. Successful BST transactions with ProofCollection, Morgan13, CoinFinder, CoinHunter4, Bretsan.

Q-Tip and love portion #9 and it just might straight-grade.

I sent this one in as well and am glad I did even with the issue.

Is that Lamination above Lincoln’s hair between the E of we and the T of trust. Also on the lower left of Lincoln’s bust it kind of looks like a die crack running from the bust to the rim. The photo is a little blurry on my end though.

The rim damage and obverse/reverse scratches are sufficient to preclude a straight grade IMHO. The coin may have been cleaned as well, but that's the least of its issues.

The coin is very unlikely to straight grade even with the new images. As others have alluded to, there can be some value to authentication as the issue is notoriously counterfeited or altered. As I alluded to in my post, what is your goal for the coin? If you want it for a set, put it in an album. If your motivation is financial you might benefit from authentication depending on if you can find a buyer at a fair price for it raw.

I though that grading would validate authentication and make it an easier sell..

That may very well be the case. It depends on how well connected you are (e.g. if you have a shop of your own, are well established in a local coin group or coin show, etc.). I do not think it would be unreasonable to submit it.

If that's eBay, and your plan is to use eBay, then having it certified will save you SO MANY troubles. Piggy back on someone else's submission and get TrueViews or the equivalent as well.

I would send it in to our hosts.

If you want to sell it, then take advantage of the eBay program for coins above $500 wherein our hosts will authenticate this for free (not grade but just authentication only).

Update" So I went to the Coin Show in San Jose today (down sized very disappointing). I know the shows organizer, he will submitted the coin to our host for grading. He thought that it has a chance at grading as his words, "I've seen worst".
My plan is to either sell it out right on eBay or at a show. I may consider combining with my VF-25 and upgrade to a higher grade, not sure because I do like my VF-25, so we'll see when the coin returns.
I promise to post the results and may do a GTG... Thanks to all for your comments.

The $50 or so you spend for authentication fee and postage is well worth it. You or a buyer can always crack it out of it's slab for an album. It's not going to straight grade but it's still worth several hundred dollars as it is.
"Two things are infinite: human stupidity and the universe; and I'm not sure about the universe."
-Albert Einstein-Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

This coin looks an awful lot like a coin I bought probably 25+ years ago in an ANACS soapbox, which I thought from poor pics might have been a misattributed rim clip. I ended up flipping it back on eBay at a slight loss. Curious how you came to own it and if it was raw when acquired.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.
"Keep in mind that most of what passes as numismatic information is no more than tested opinion at best, and marketing blather at worst. However, I try to choose my words carefully, since I know that you guys are always watching." - Joe O'Connor0 -
The coin will never get a straight grade because of cleaning and scratches. The ideal situation would be something like ANACS papers which would confirm that it’s genuine, but let you put it in an album.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?0 -
The question depends on your ultimate goal. If you just wanna have it as a collectible and enjoy it I wouldn’t send it in. Just leave it in the album if you want to sell it someday however you’ll get a better price if it’s authenticated by a top-tier grading company detailed grade of course for this particular coin I hope that helps

The coin show’s organizer might have seen “worse” but there’s hardly any chance that he’s seen (the) “worst”. 😉
