9/11 coins ... I have none , can you post some ?

These coins (shown below) were intended as a commemoration of the ground breaking for the new Freedom Tower to replace the Twin Towers. Regardless of the intent, they did not have a good reputation and were quite controversial when first released. The problems mostly originated from the marketing tactics rather than the coins themselves.

The 2004 issue was supposedly a legal tender coin from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
But the CNMI is a protectorate of the United States and has no legal authority to issue their own currency (they use US Dollars only, for legal tender). There are two versions: Type 1 (small Statue of Liberty) ; Type 2 (large Statue of Liberty).

The 2004 issue comes in these forms: 39mm silver plated (type 1 only); 39mm solid 999 silver (one troy oz, type 1 only); 1/4 troy oz 999 gold (Type 1 and Type 2).

After the 2004 fiasco with the legal tender status, subsequent issues from 2005 to 2010 (all Type 2,3,4) were supposedly legal tender of the Cook Islands (which does have the authority to issue their own currency).

The solid silver version is scarce (2004-2006) or rare (2007-2010). All the gold pieces are rare. Later years are generally scarcer than 2004-2005.

This is one of the fundraiser quarters that @Mark wrote about. I also recall the little flags by so many names and how the fundraiser unfolded. The one imaged is mine and I still have it.

Its a really interesting story, these were stored in several vaults owned by Bank of Nova Scotia. The Bank was situated in 4 World Trade Center, attached below shows you where for reference. 4 World Trade Center stood directly next to Two World Trade (South Tower) which was the last struck and first to collapse. The South Tower Structurally failed eastward and toppled directly onto 4 World Trade. From photos after the attacks, it was the least recognizable since the South Tower Collapse Directly onto it. The World Trade Center Complex had several major Bank tenants that had stored large amounts of money, including Citi & Chase Bank, both of which were situated closer to Tower 1 which resulted in being the most destroyed from the long burning below grade fires.

From what I recall reading, the vaults owned by Bank of Nova Scotia were virtually undisturbed sitting many levels below ground even with the complete destruction above grade. The vault remained locked shut until power could be restored to that area, the tunnel leading out was destroyed by the Collapse of 7 World Trade so until the path was cleared all precious metals, coins etc remained inside until October/November of 2001. They had roughly 250 Million within the vaults.
