I loved them in 2008 and always hoped they would be back. Hopefully they put them in some nice, attractive anniversary packaging and leave out any 250th privies (which I think they would do since this is labelled an "Anniversary" edition)

The new listing doesn't state "proof" or "Uncirculated" so who knows what the plan is?

Would be nice if they'd do an uncirculated version for bullion collectors, but as usual, who knows?

A proof and a burnished, along the lines of the 2021 AGE designer's edition, mintage 5000.

Dont mean to be a downer, but they couldnt announce this earlier?! For those of us that picked up the 1 oz for over $5500, this is a sort of kick in the junk. If its no different other than the 1/10th oz, no thx.
On the other hand, if its an omen for 2027+ ... I'm back on board. The gold price has me dropping this from consideration next year. BoM just about wiped me out this year.

They list it as Anniversary, so I'm guessing there is something unique about it. They are quite into privy marks this year...maybe...

The one modern set I regretted not buying was the Buffalo gold set. At the time I thought the mint’s issue price was too high. It turned out to be a one year set.
I want it in the original box, not slabbed. That makes it much harder to find. There was one at the recent Summer FUN show, but the guy wanted $11,500 for it. Melt, at the time, was $8,500, so I passed.
I loved those.
To this day, I still have a sealed 4 coin proof & unc set, along w all the graded ones.
The sealed sets are still FS eligible 18 y later - lol
The plats were hot then as well. Lots of action then.

I guess I am the lone voice. I just want the coin in a capsule. All the other Mint packaging is just clutter to me.
I'm to the point where I need to store all my OGP separately... takes up too much room.

I emailed Director Hollis about this in July and he said at that time
"Regarding the fractional buffalo - I agree - it is something we are considering. With gold at $4k - I really would like to have coins in a much lower start price"
So this accomplishes that. I'm glad they took some feedback and found a way to push it into this year's schedule.
I would love to see an enhanced version but I think I would be happy with whatever they produce 😎

Yes. The 1/10th-ounce gold Semiquincentennial Mercury Dime was priced at $800. Assuming the price of gold does not shift sharply, I suspect the 1/10th-ounce gold Buffalo will be about the same.
Don't forget that had a silver coin along with it. More in-line with this would be the current $605 price for the 1/10 AGE (currently out of stock)
Didn't the dime have a one ounce silver companion medal? If so, I would subtract a hundred to two from the price.

The Price or Mintage won’t much matter to most, as this is an absolute buy, given the flashback to 2008 - the year of abundant proof and uncirculated versions that I was happy to buy.
I sold one of my sealed sets to a father that wanted it for his son, born in that year.
I gave one of the quarter ounces to the friend on his birthday, uncirculated, as he loved the nickel size.
This too will be an excellent gift.

there is a point between the two that is the sweet spot. i think15,000 might be enough to keep collectors' interest but make it a poor flip

I only laid out the absurd $ for this year's buff to keep the set complete. Being shut out now would so suck.
I can't even get into the website to look at the schedule. The virtual waiting room has popped up again with a wait time of over an hour. There must be another program the mint could use, this one keeps everyone out.

Should I buy a 2008 buffalo now or wait until the new ones come out in December? I was wondering how the price will be affected on the 2008s once the new coins come out.
My experience is that "IF" they notify you, they notify you well past the small availability window.
I'm still bitter about the 2008s. I bought two each of the 1/10 & 1/4 oz proof and uncs. Somehow, I lost one of the 1/4 oz proofs. I have NO idea how it happened. I used to keep all of my coins stashed in the back of my closet, and it was only about a year after they came out that I got a safe deposit box for them.
