Daniel Carr edge lettered coins slabbed by ANACS

In an earlier thread from 2023, @MWallace posted about a Daniel Carr edge lettered Sacagawea dollar that he had slabbed by ANACS. That coin's edge lettering read DARWIN RULES. That was the first one of @DCarr's edge lettered coins to be slabbed. That thread can be found here:

Approximately 15 years earlier I had Dan edge letter some coins for me that read KILROY WAS HERE.

That was a famous slogan, now referred to as a "graffiti meme", that became popular during WWII. There are many stories and claims about its origin, but one is that an inspector at the Fore River Shipyard named James R. Kilroy used that as his mark when he inspected parts of the ships being built at the Quincy, Massachusetts shipyard. GIs who were then transported on those ships saw the mark and recreated it across Europe.

I had Dan do the edge lettering for me on (20) circulated 1942 nickels, (20) circulated 2000P Sacagawea dollars, and (20) uncirculated 2007D Sacagawea dollars.

For the circulated coins I added paint in the lettering to help the text stand out, and I added my tiny JBK counterstamp to the reverse. Some of those coins went into circulation.

The uncirculated coins sat largely forgotten for around 15 years until @MWallace's thread appeared. He strongly encouraged me to get them slabbed by ANACS. I made a deal with him that if he could get the first two into slabs then I'd submit the rest.

The challenge was that the gaskets in the slab didn't provide enough open area to show the entire edge lettering, so @MWallace and ANACS worked out a solution: they would slab a pair of coins with the gasket in a different position for each coin so that between the two coins the entire text could be read.

ANACS was great to work with on this project so I sent the remaining 18 coins. ANACS slabbed 9 with one gasket position and 9 with the other position. They even matched up the pairs to be in the same grade where that was possible.

During this process I discovered that one coin had a struck-through error so I had ANACS post that on the label.

I'll take the credit (or the blame) for getting the coins made originally, but @MWallace gets all the credit for making the slabbing happen. I'm glad they are finally encapsulated to show their provenance to Daniel Carr's brief foray into custom edge lettering.
