They are theoretically supposed to be available at banks for face value. The same could be said for the SemiQ quarters and dimes, but most people can't get them and the mint has a quick sell-out of every offering.
Sure, if you think the product limits of the quarters and dimes are comparable to the dollars. But they aren't, so whatever point your are trying to make is irrelevant to this.
My point is entirely relevant. You keep saying that since they will be available at face value then it makes no sense to pay a premium apart from the privy potential.
It's the exact same thing as the quarters, for example. Supposed to be available at the banks but not in reality.
Agree to disagree. The quarters in rolls and bags will never have any numismatic value. Even if the Mint makes relatively few available for sale on the website, resulting in quick sell outs.
They are making tens and hundreds of millions of them. They will eventually show up somewhere.

So will my backordered bags have any privies?
TBD. You'll see when you get them, if you open them. If others report no privies, the move will be to leave the bag sealed, indistinguishable from those that were not back ordered.
My guess is that the coins have been minted and the backorder is due to packaging. In that scenario, the privies might already be mixed in with the raw pile of coins.
Back when they minted the presidential dollars (and maybe for the innovation dollars as well) they had the entire run completed before they put them on sale. I would not be surprised if they did the same with these.

You "hope." Because you have no basis for a "guess."
OTOH, if they stay true to form, they will have over seeded the first run, as they did with the FH silver medals, in order to throw an additional prize to the ABPP buyers. Of course, with the FH silver medals, there never was a back order, but they also did not announce at the time that 75K was really only ever going to be 50K, even though they certainly knew that at the time. Because they seeded all 1794 privies in the first and only 50K.
We'll never know for sure, unless they affirmatively tell us one way or the other, since there is no guarantee what any individual bag or roll will contain, no matter they do. But we'll have a good idea if people here open back ordered bags and rolls and report whether or not they received privies.
And the whole reason people are even questioning this in the first place is due to the games they have played in the past with things like this. Always for the benefit of the Big Boys. Always at the expense of small retail. Until we see otherwise, the concern is legitimate, regardless of what would or would not surprise you.
Because, sure, they could absolutely do exactly what you are guessing they will do. They could also do the exact opposite. You have no way to know. Neither do I. All we have is what they have done in the past.
Just look at eBay, lots of these coins, including those with privy marks have been pre-sold. Many others offered for sale, some with coins in hand, some not.

You don’t have to have any basis to make a guess. So yes, it’s his guess.

Why hasn't anyone brought up if dealers had early buy offers for these. I though someone said that was the test to see if these had any extra value.
Probably because they don't. They got their share through the ABPP program, and 250K is not especially rare. Not when they are not dispersed in the wild among tens or hundreds of millions of coins.
It's unlikely they would be willing to pay a significant premium. Do you see dealer buy offers for 2026 cents? Same thing. Or the July 4th privy quarters?
These will surely have some value, but likely not enough for dealers to pay a premium to us in the hopes of selling them at a significant markup to that. Not when they can each get hundreds or thousands of them for $1.55-2.44 each directly from the Mint.
In the aggregate, large dealers are guaranteed to be getting around 15% of the 250K. Maybe a lot more if the back order bags and rolls don't have any. They don't need to go into the market to pay big premiums to get more. Small dealers who think there might be a flip will be the eBay bidders.

As @jwitten already pointed out, I dont need no stinkin' basis to make a guess.
But, aside from that, I did have a basis. I mentioned the situation with the presidential dollars as precedent.
Furthermore, these dollar coins were in production two months ago. I doubt that the mint is setting aside a production line to make these dollars for months at a time.
So, in summary, I didn't need a basis for my guess, but I had one anyway. I'm double indemnified. 😎

Massively overpriced compared to every other modern dollar/con roll, throwing in a few privy mark coins to inflate sales knowing most will be left empty handed with coins that will trade for little over face... Yeah it's pretty much what I would expect and a very predictable marketing strategy for this coin.
Your hatred of the subject of the coin has clearly clouded your thinking. Sad. These are priced at the exact same price as ALL other dollar coins offered by the US Mint, the Native American Dollars and the Innovation Dollars.
Then I stand corrected. I never remember seeing dollar rolls selling for that. Is this a recent change?
It changed early this year.
That's crazy. What is the resale market for the other coins? How are you expected to ever break close to even?
I have rolls and bags of the dimes. Never planned or expected to break even on them.

Great. You have a basis. Doesn't mean it's valid.
As I already said, your guess would make perfect sense, assuming the Mint actually wants to fairly distribute these. The last time they did something like this, they intentionally short minted, misled everyone, including Coin World, about what they were doing, but somehow managed to take care of large dealers while short changing members of the public, who are never promised anything and are apparently entitled to nothing.
No reason they might not have similarly seeded the 250K into what they already packaged, rather than holding any back for later seeding. This possibility, based on what they have done in the past, not a "guess," based on what they could do this time, is precisely why people are asking the question.
So, we'll see. I have no "guess." I'm just calling balls and strikes.

Yes. I was just trying to be gracious. Not move a goalpost. An invalid basis is, by definition, not a valid basis.
Your guess is your guess. It is based on nothing other than your hope.
I'm quite sure that you are correct insofar as production for the year is likely done. This tells us nothing at all about what they are doing with the privies.
Either they held them back, or they didn't. The last time, they didn't.
They short minted, didn't own up to it, seeded the privies among what they already produced, and called it a day. Even though there was overwhelming demand for the missing 25K medals.
So, this time, either they have a bunch of privies waiting to be seeded into the coins that have not yet been rolled and bagged, or they don't.
You have a guess. Based on nothing.
I have precedent that suggests the privies are already gone. But no guess, because you could also be right.
Like you, I have no basis for making a guess. Unlike you, I am refraining from doing so.
What's a "guess" if not a "prediction"? Nothing?
Because, yes, the back ordered product will either contain privies or it won't. You are 1,000,000% correct about that, if that's what you are trying to say with a guess that is not a prediction as you accuse me of moving goalposts.
I received an order confirmation email from The Mint and a minute later another email telling that my order can't be fulfilled. When I check The Mint's website it says that my order is processing. Very strange.
The mint obviously didn't distribute these privys evenly just like they didn't do it with the quarter privys. The mint can't be bothered, that's why it's a casino.
Also strange the bot buyers didn't flood this one. Maybe they got burned fingers from the gold liberty bells.

To be fair, the distribution is never going to be perfect if it is truly random. That's a very different thing from what they did with the July 4th quarters, which were anything but random. Or what they did with the W quarters, where it was easy for people to grab quantity if they had access to boxes with the W coins placed at the top of them.
It is FAR too soon to know what they did with these, based on the tiny sample size so far. Don't go by what ABPP dealers are offering, because, keep in mind, if they had access to 15% of 250K privies, they had access to around 37,500 privies.
As far as bots go, we also really don't know. It might be that word about the privies got out too late for the buyers clubs to line up their soldiers. It might also be that what the Mint did with enhanced CAPTCHAs today caught them off guard.
The extended waiting room suggests, however, that something was indeed going on today beyond regular collectors chasing 8.75 million Trump coins. There is no way that getting burned on a delayed $20K return would keep people away from a $400 flip if they knew about it and had someone to flip it to.

Like when you promised us that the mint booth at the FUN show would not be open on the National Day of Mourning for Jimmy Carter. You promised, based on nothing, and were wrong.
I offered a guess based on prior precedent. That's better than promises based on nothing.
You're already wrong about demand for this coin, the timefrane for a sellout, and whether or not they would be released for circulation. But why stop there?

From the few reports here the distribution is spot on, eerily so.

Great. You have a basis. Doesn't mean it's valid.
As I already said, your guess would make perfect sense, assuming the Mint actually wants to fairly distribute these. The last time they did something like this, they intentionally short minted, mislead everyone, including Coin World, about what they were doing, but somehow managed to take care of large dealers.
There you go again, moving the goalposts.
The original issue you had was your claim that I had no basis for making a guess, and now you're saying that my basis does not mean that my guess is valid.
I never insisted that it was necessarily valid. It was a guess, not a prediction or guarantee.
This is laughable. You regularly make assurances, insistences, even promises, based on nothing.

For the sake of everyone who bought after they went on back order, I truly hope you end up being correct. But just what prior precedent was your "guess" based on? The only regular product seeded with privies that was ever offered on the website was the 2024 FH silver medals. No privies were held back from the first batch offered on those.

You need to call the number on the email and get your payment fixed or you will not get your order. Best to call early in the morning before on sales at 12:00 or later in the evening.

For both sides, our guesses, predictions, hopes, and desires, are just that, and oftenbhave no basis on fact, or what the USM will ultimately decide to do. We, I assume, all have a common interest in coins and collecting, and I would hope could focus more on that, the history, the information we can share, and less about who predicted, guessed, or thought things would go one way or another. I come here to learn and maybe share something I know. The back and forth on all sides detracts from what we should be doing here. Just my 2 cents worth.

Why hasn't anyone brought up if dealers had early buy offers for these. I though someone said that was the test to see if these had any extra value.
Just look at eBay, lots of these coins, including those with privy marks have been pre-sold. Many others offered for sale, some with coins in hand, some not.

You don’t have to have any basis to make a guess. So yes, it’s his guess.
I have 2 baggies ordered up. Rolls have end coins with wrapper scars, wouldn't that be fun ? Ah, no thank you.
My plan before they juiced up the possibilities with their privy 250K issue was getting just two Benjamin Worth bags plus fees.

Rolls unavailable.

You're already wrong about demand for this coin, the timefrane for a sellout, and whether or not they would be released for circulation. But why stop there?
From the few reports here the distribution is spot on, eerily so.
I'm happy if the bot buyers weren't involved. The way my experience was going for about a galf hour this morning, I was concerned I was going to be shut out, and I never would have imagined that prior to the privy discovery.

For the sake of everyone who bought after they went on back order, I truly hope you end up being correct. But just what prior precedent was your "guess" based on? The only regular product seeded with privies that was ever offered on the website was the 2024 FH silver medals. No privies were held back from the first batch offered on those.
Sounds like prediction to me. Not a statement of fact, but not nothing either.
You have a credit card issue. The mint had a number of credit cards that did not go thru today.
Just my 2 cents worth.
such a pleasant thread
Yup... getting off topic
So is the US mint strict on the 250,000 Trump privies they’re only gonna make 250,000 and that’s it?
The court jester does not play, but gently pulls the strings…
Yes they were made on July 4 and that’s all there is .
That would be my guess. Err, I mean prediction. Hope? Assumption? Let’s ask NJ which word is proper here..
4 of these rolls coming, I can feel it! Lol, plus 4 bags full of them.
Deja Vu with a fourth privy hunt. At least they're making it interesting.

if the mint thinks they have stopped the bots, this is not the product to judge by.
They can't very well strike more on July 4th.
