Nairn one to be seen.
It's now been a week since their deadline passed for when they said we'd have answers and clarity and all the other stuff that was supposed to wow and impress us. So far I'm neither wowed nor impressed. They cut back the awards from hundreds, if not thousands, to SIXTY. And still can't be bothered to give us the clarity they promised on a schedule they set. @Charles_Morgan - your last post said "shortly" for publishing the complete list of awards winners (which should all have been programmed to go live the moment the actual ceremony completed). So - what are we defining "shortly" to mean? Minutes, days, months? Are we losing our banners? Are we not losing our banners? Are we getting the platinum and 10 year badges on those sets that have EARNED that recognition? Or does PCGS just want to see MyCollect become the dominant Set Registry that we all turn to in the future?

I heard they announced this year's set winners at the ANA show. Is there a list of the winners somewhere? Was there some sort of ceremony there?

They said they were going to. I'd swear I read somewhere that they only announced three hall-of-fame inductees, although in fairness, I can't find that quote today to verify. However, the next day, there was a post on here thanking everyone for attending, and stating the full list of winners would be posted shortly. And just like all the changes they're claiming to come to the registry system, nobody actually knows what that really means.
ElmerFusterpuck and oldmagnet, I was at the registry event. Various changes regarding PCGS including a cooperative arrangement for coin verification with ebay were announced. Three were inducted into the hall of fame - Laura Sperber, Jeff Garrett and Lee Minschull. Awards were given out to winners who could attend the August 26th event. It was noted that a full list of winners would be posted - I surmised after the end of the ANA show. Below is an image of what the awards looked like.

Congratulations! - That trophy will look great in any display (as opposed to the pins they tried using a couple years ago...) - and yeah, I also was under the impression the full announcement would have been published immediately upon completion of their presentation (hence this thread of frustration) -- Since there's still no official word, I guess we're just left to assume it'll show up in some future "PCGS Insider" with little to no fanfare accompanying it.
I thought the Cocktail event was to be focused on Registry Set participants? What happened to Hall of Fame for them!? All three of the Hall of Fame winners are long time dealers who I suspect are NOT registry participants? What happened to people like Michael Hoyman who was a pioneer in the PCGS Set Registry Morgan Dollar Low Ball category who won the Hall of Fame status over a decade ago? It appears PCGS has changed their criteria for Hall of Fame status and entirely excluded any Registry participants? If I'm not mistaken, the Registry and dealers were considered as two entirely different entities with the selection process held totally separate??

Based on my personal observations, the August 26th event had more than one focus. The event moved from (1) announcing upcoming changes at PCGS to (2) inducting three Hall of Fame Members to (3) presenting registry awards to those winners who could attend in person in Pittsburgh. I did not find it unusual that those inducted into the Hall of Fame were not present or former Registry winners as I did not view the event as somehow "Registry only".

Set Registry has moved on into two classes, 1) the Elites and 2) the Rest of Us. The Elites got their awards in a timely manner - they got their fanfare and accolades while the Rest of Us will be told whatever,...whenever. There's an -ism for that if I recall.

That covers the elites. Not sure where ‘the rest of us’ is set out.
I of course could have missed it but I looked and could not see the usual awards overview. Would LOVE to know why the Crowns were determined to be the defining set for the UK.
None of my sets would be anywhere near that level but there are absolutely many more sets more worthy of distinction. Blows my mind how the decisions are made.
And yes, I am disgruntled. But so would you if you were paying premium subs for years and then being treated with such disdain and ignorance.
Currently looking for Great Britain only George V coins.

If I'm grading school exams, homework, etc. how does an incomplete work assignment trump a fully, 100% completed piece!?
Case in Point; Colorful Coins won for Complete Type Set with Gold Low Ball with roughly 88% of the set complete!?? The set lacks 16 coins to be fully complete..
Now look at FINEST KNOWN #1 (Spoiler alert My set) which is in the Copper, Nickel, Silver Type Set Low Ball category which has been 100% for a number of years and has the 1792 Half Disme which the Colorful Coins set lacks... Not a minor difference! His set is number 2 below mine in this 97 coin Type Set Low Ball Category. So, I guess you move your set to another category, add some Gold to Dazzle even if the set is miles away from completion, and win?
Well... there's the list that should have been ready to post two weeks ago. Still doesn't answer any of the questions or concerns that the rest of us peasants have been asking - I certainly appear to have missed the parts that were supposed to 'wow' and 'amaze' us. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't let someone talk me into wasting thousands of dollars to go to the event in person. I'd like to offer my congratulations to the Ohio Collector, who clearly put in the time and effort to earn a HOF position. And to the other three, who clearly also worked hard for years and years and years to earn that coveted title. I guess this is why they want to kill off the banners.
(And WHY are we giving major awards to private sets? Or ANY awards, for that matter?)
Obviously, "Private" sets are not sharing, promoting, or in my mind, participating in the Registry. If I recall correctly, were "Private" sets ever in the running for awards??
I think they always have been eligible for awards, but have also always been controversial because of it. I only looked up a handful of "regular" award sets from the list, just a few random picks - they were all private. Go figure. Didn't want to waste any more time digging any deeper than that.
All of my sets, including the set for which I received an award for “Best U.S. Type Set” (one of the 40 regular sets), have always been open to the public. Additionally, that set has always been in my auto signature at the bottom of every one of my replies for MANY years!
Separately, I recognize and agree with so many Registry Set owners regarding the limited number of awards given out in 2026. I’m cautiously optimistic the cost-free various banners will be updated for 2026 and ongoing years!

It makes absolutely no sense that they would stop giving out banners to "best of" sets! It costs PCGS practically nothing to do this. They just have to run an automated script that would calculate the each "best of" set and add a digital banner to that set. Not everyone can win a major award, but most people can compete for a "best of" banner in their little corner of collecting. PCGS, do the right thing and keep the "best of" banners!

Although I've never heard Steve complain about the registry, they've absolutely done him just as dirty, so I have to bring his set into the fight. He's sold me a lot of coins over the years (just not "the" one to tie up to his set
) -- I spent many years in a tight second place, and probably a dozen or more raw or NGC 70 crackout submissions before finally getting that last hit to match him this year. Now the leaderboard finally has TWO perfect MS70 Kookaburra sets. As long as he doesn't sell anything off, and keeps up with the new year additions, he'll remain in the #1 spot, a place he's earned, and that I'm honored to sit below. And by ALL the published rules during, well, ALL of the registry's history, his set should now ALWAYS hold a platinum badge. It's been promised, and it's absolutely been earned. Now that there's two perfect sets side by side, you can guarantee they'll never look twice at his set again. As long as my set is posted, his will never win any form of achievement awards again. I'll admit to a level of survivor's guilt in that.
As for my Koala set.... Yeah, call it selfish, call it childish. I don't care. I'm bitter. And I don't feel one bit guilty about that.
I've been involved with Low Ball for over 30 years, and for most of those years housed my treasures in an old worn-out Dansco Album. I'd certify a coin here and there, but very few. In 2019 I got the "Bug" and started my first PCGS Registry set; "FINEST KNOWN" in the 97 Piece Copper, Nickel, and Silver Type Set Low Ball Category. Out of 81 current sets, my set has been the number one set for years. It's not just a number one set, but a set with many POP 1 coins such as the only 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar in PCGS PR01, the only 1795 Bust Dollar in PCGS PR01, and many other POP 1 coins. I'd be remiss if I did not mention the "Discovery Coin", a 1792 Half Disme in PCGS FR2 with a CAC sticker.

Two other COMPLETE Low Ball sets. If you have collected any Seated Coinage in your life, understand the difficultly of putting together either of the Seated Quater (115 coins) or Seated Dimes (121 coins) with Major Varieties Low Ball Registry sets. My Quarter set didn't even garner a Gold!? The only reason I can assume is that the judges disliked my humor, and "Dinged" me for it!? :-)

The above are just a few of many #1 Low Ball sets with major varieties currently on the web. If you have ever collected or searched for Low Ball coins, you understand it is a tedious hunt with many hours, days, weeks and years spent "Dumpster Diving".
To all the esteemed Registry members reading this that have been bushwacked after spending years and countless $$$ living the dream, I can only think PCGS has taken a WRONG TURN with their new (Sic) Manager?? I would like to be proven wrong on this count, but so far, I think I'm 100% correct...
