Hey, this is football season, don't pollute this great thread. Okay? I warned you about this before. One more time, no problem, I'll just block you again.

Ya know what, you are incorrigible. I'll just block you right now. LOL

I say that because he picks a 4 team parlay of div 2 teams that he obviously doesn’t know anything about and loses and then tells us he spent hours and hours trying to handicap a game today and can’t find an edge.
Which is it, does he throw darts to make picks or study like he’s the greatest gambler in the world?

Well I regularly posted my picks and totals last season. Showed a decent profit. Off to a slow start this season with that one parlay. Killed the other three teams, but the one team couldn't come thru for me. That's sports betting - it happens, you know that.

I have already clearly outlined my handicapping strategies in numerous posts throughout this thread. I'm not in the mood to regurgitate it, especially to a BGR who's too afraid to make a call in this thread. I don't mind Darin, and I actually like him. But if the feeling isn't mutual, then that's fine. At least Darin has the stones to make a call, many calls in fact, win or lose, and I respect that.

Interesting I was getting ready to bomb TCU some days ago. Max-bet at the least. Then I watched that video I posted with Belichick and Sean Hannity. Watched the whole thing.

Belichick went into detail about how, especially during the Super Bowl appearances, he would personally take care of any problems with the travel arrangements, etc, rather than just letting a staff member handle it, as most all head coaches would do. Belichick wanted his players focused only on football, not any of the other crap.

With this game, and flying to Ireland, and all the various problems that could occur, I could envision Belichick taking charge of any problems for his young players, and getting everything resolved quickly. Whereby perhaps the TCU coach didn't do any of that. This is the main reason I got off TCU.

This morning I was gonna play the UNC spread, but just couldn't pull the trigger on it. Just decided to pass on the game. However no complaints because I saved a lot of money by not betting TCU days ago, and forgetting about it until game time. Thank you Belichick for that dissertation. 😊

Now if Darin reads this post, it may blow his mind, and he might do a spit-take with his chocolate milk. 😂😂😂

Caught the Phillies last night in a badly needed win. But never easy. Phillies nursed a 1-0 lead, to the top of the eighth, two outs, Harper on third. He steals home to take a two run lead. Gave me some breathing room. But lo and behold, the steal is reversed. Are you kidding me? Never saw a home steal revered before. Still had a one run lead, but I "knew" doom was coming, I've been so ice cold. So sure as green apples, in the bottom of the eighth, the Angels batter hits a two out, two strike, solo home run to tie the game, and I'm saying to myself here we go again with another stinking bad beat. Fortunately the Phillies won it in extra innings.

I'm happy about the win, but please NFL, hurry up and get here. LOL

My Travers bet went South as the key horse Renegade failed to fire. This after the owner placed a late win bet of $30,000.00 on his charge.
Nascar bet failed as well. Toyota a no show most of the night. Logano a unthreatning 18th.
As it has been said, there always is tomorrow. But would be nice to win today.

A 47.4 half. Those class horses on the front end weren't coming back to the field. The 2 horse that won actually looked a little tired in the backstretch, being urged by the jockey a bit early. Looked beat at the top of the stretch. But then changed leads nicely, and beat the front runner.

Third start winner - very unusual for a Travers winner from my recollection. I wouldn't have played it either.

Cantlay's & Schauffele's past results at the Tour Championship

    Cantlay (starting in 2021): winner, T7, 5th, T17, T2

    Schauffele (starting in 2017): winner, T7, 2nd, T2, T5, 4th, 2nd, T4, did not qualify

Cantlay's & Schauffele's results when galaxy decides to bet on them this year

    Cantlay: T21

    Schauffele: T14

and on top of that, after last week's bewilderment with Scheffler, naturally he turns right around and wins again

i want to physically strike golf in the larynx

@countdougIas you ran the pickem last year right? before @galaxy27 took over. I'm happy to put up the prize for this season to the winner. $100. I'm not keen on doing the weekly posts though. any volunteers?

@2dueces ran it initially. i took over, but i've also done it for an entire season and i'm here to tell you that it eventually reaches a tedious stage. i wouldn't wish the whole enchilada on @perkdog or anyone else. if perk wants to do the first half, i'll be happy to pick up around week 9. and i'll also toss in a benjamin to up the stakes this season.

i also want to say one other thing. we've been doing this for a number of years. in the past, i was of the mindset that more is merrier. but after a while, something got stuck in my craw. and that something is people who only come up for air when this contest is about to launch. i'm talking about individuals who haven't posted a single time on the sports forum since last football season. perhaps i have a dick mindset, who knows. but i feel like it's a principled one. if the only time you're going to be active is when money is involved, those are optics i personally can no longer swallow. double d always plays but doesn't post in any other thread but his own. that definitely suffices, imo.

here's my dos centavos: you had to have posted at least one time anywhere in sports talk in 2026. if you can't clear that very low bar, you don't deserve to participate.

ultimately, i'll just wash my hands of that situation and defer to you guys where that's concerned

    Start up the thread.

There's always exceptions, but historically for the most part, the Super Bowl loser generally has a decline in their performance the following season.

I like the Patriots team and their coach, long term, but I think they might bounce a bit off their remarkable showing last season.

Seahawks are -3.5. Frankly I thought they'd be around -5. I think the line may drift towards that number before kick-off.

For sure, the books are showing some love to the Patriots with that line right now. So perhaps the Patriots win in a mild upset? Tough call either way. I'm probably going to pass on the game.

Yeah I’ll probably pass on it also. Probably not wise betting against the defending champs. And as far as I know they should still have a great defense. I’ll probably start slow the first couple weeks until I get a better feel for the teams. Start with maybe a two team parlay of pretty heavily favored teams.
I probably won’t be able to resist betting on KC to beat Denver on the first Monday night game. Although the Broncos always seem to play well at KC. 🤔 Of course if Mahomes isn’t ready to start no way I make the bet.
Last I heard…. Of course Mahomes has been saying for weeks he will be ready for the opener but the Chiefs medical team, which has the only opinion that matters hasn’t cleared him to play in games yet.

I wouldn't have played that one either. In the Travers, I usually liked playing a horse that finished around say second, third, or fourth in the Belmont, for some value, and hope the horse likes the track conditions, etc, better at Saratoga.

But extremely tough to find value in horse racing, when including the breakage, the track is grabbing around 20% of each win, place, and show bet. Exotics such as doubles, exactas, etc, it's usually around 25% or 30%. Simply brutal.

It's amazing how one can make 2 different picks in the golf, Rory top 5 and Fleetwood top 10, and both can come up short by 1 stroke to collect on.

sorry bro, that really sucks. it was an uneventful (terrible?) ending for me as well. i'm going to be tempted to bet during the completely irrelevant part of the year, but it's not going to happen. no more ⛳️ until '27. it's 🏈 time.

btw, to give everyone an idea of how much 💰 there is in golf now, yesterday Scheffler passed Tiger Woods for the #1 spot on the PGA Tour career earnings list. and he just turned 30. he's already made over 130 million.

Well this one is looking pretty good. Been nibbling away at the new bankroll deficit, since that disastrous FCS parlay. Been hitting on some selected MLB games.

Shoulda had the Giants ML earlier. I liked that game, but am proceeding with caution after being so ice cold. Thankfully it's warming up, headed into the NFL.

Received 4, 50% profit boosts on NFL futures. I should just play something, but waiting at least 18 weeks for a result, I think might drive me crazy. All 4 expire in a few hours, so I'll just let it go.

Steve - I’ve been building these things for companies that are called second brains or corporate ontologies. As I get exposed to more and more industries I keep thinking about gambling. It’s like how quantitative reasoning broke trading - you don’t have to beat the market .. just beat the people you’re playing against. That’s how I approach gaming systems and I would love to work on a project here with you. If you send me a DM I’ll share the details with you and explain why I think you can help.

If not then I’m going to partner with Perk and galaxy and when this company is worth a billion dollars you’re going to feel the sting of regret.

Just started reviewing the FBS games, Thursday thru Saturday. Don't recall seeing this high of a percentage of games looking like blowouts. Could be a lot of parlay opportunity there, but of course one snakebite long shot wins and you're screwed.

If anyone sees an interesting ML long shot, with some potential for a nice score, post it if you wish, and I might piggyback on it.

  • Options

Even though I lost that FCS parlay, I knew going into it, that the book's computer would probably offer more profit boosts because of it. Even though I didn't act on it, those sudden 4 50% profit boosts I think are proof of that. I had never before received anything like that quantity.

I realize some don't like playing those low percentage wagers, and it's understandable. However when the wagering amount results in nice profit boosts for future wagers, the benefits may be greater than what it appears. I say "may be" because you still need to hit the dam things.

i can't imagine a better way to start the football season than a 10-team, 3-TD tease me. this completely normal bet will set the tone. if all of these red-headed stepchildren still have a pulse after their respective games, that augurs well for me. but if someone like Ball St loses by 90 points, then helloooo WSOP main event buy-in at some point this season

"WSOP main event buy-in at some point this season"

Would like to do that one of these years. The buy-in isn't the problem for me. The "problem" is the mental stamina.

I've played countless amounts of poker, and have watched countless amounts of the pros playing poker on TV. I know all their moves. Of course the key is to make the right moves at the right time. You need to stay mentally sharp to be able to do that.

I don't use drugs. In fact I've never done one single amphetamine pill in my entire life and don't intend to start now. I think to win that long tourney, you'd have to take drugs to stay mentally alert. One lapse in judgment and you could lose your stack in a heartbeat.

So yes, I'd like to do it, but don't feel like going thru all the motions and the money, when I already know I'm very likely gonna be half asleep at some point, and get felted because of fatigue. I think I'd rather partially buy-in with another player say for 10% of the buy-in or whatever, and root for it that way. I wouldn't mind winning 10% of a 10 million dollar prize.

  • Options

Some of those games coming up are such mortal locks, the books won't even allow ML wagering on the favorite at any odds. They won't even let ya make a lousy cent on a hundred dollar bet for crying out loud. Which seems insane to do that anyway, however if it causes the computer to award ya extra profit boosts on future bets, then in my opinion it would be worth it

BTW - I won't mention the name, but there is a website that lists the pros, looking for those out there to give them money, in return for a piece of their action in a tourney. They do the same on some cash games as well. I think the website gets around a 5% cut for their service, but not sure of the exact percentage.

I haven't looked at it for at least several years, never bit on it. But I recall one year, maybe around five years ago, Jamie Gold was begging for money so he could enter the WSOP main event. Not for one second did I consdet doing anything with him. However just out of curiosity I checked, he did enter the tourney, but didn't even come close even for bubble money. LOL

Since I said I was gonna stop with MLB for this season, around a month ago, I meant it at the time. But it's the moth to a flame thing. LOL

I have been extremely selective, around five games played since then, and won every one. But probably the Dodgers tonight will put an end to that mini win streak.

There were two earlier games today I liked, but decided to abstain, and glad I did. They both lost. So at least I did something right. 🤔
