The study for the $2.50 circulating coin is due in three weeks, we'll see.

However, I wouldn't be surprised to see the $2.50 SemiQ Gold Commem coming out soon.

Sadly no for the $2.50 coin this year. That would have been cool. Looks like we'll just have to content ourselves with ultra rare 2.5 ozt silver quarters.

The coin is attractive compared to other denominations for a commemorative gold piece because it’s smaller and would have a lower base price. Still, with gold at almost $4,700 an ounce, it’s not that cheap. In addition, there is still the problem that it’s the size of a dime. There is limited space a design, especially when you have all of the statutory words which have to be on a coin.

I think there's still a chance for 2026. Actually, a pretty good chance.

The legislation for the $2.50 coin passed the House back in February I believe with bipartisan support. It's stuck in the Senate like lots of proposed legislation. But we know that the Senate can act quickly and pass huge omnibus spending bills with tons of items attached to them when they need to do so.

Since the design is known, it's likely the Mint is ready to go upon passage and could quickly get these coins dated 2026 to the public. We saw the Mint go from design to website with the Freedom 250 medal in a matter of weeks, and that was a fresh design.

If I remember correctly, the bill also allows for the $2.50 gold coin (as well as silver and clad versions) to be made with the USA 250 design for the first 2 years (with new designs thereafter), so even if it doesn't happen until 2027, the odds of seeing this coin dated 1776-2026 are very high in my estimation.

Sorry, but a lot of dealers have looked down on the Philadelphia Sesquicentennial $2.50. I remember one dealer giving me the vampire cross sign when I mentioned it. Although it does not suffer as much from the low relief problems that plague the Sesquicentennial half dollar, it still has issues.

A minority of them have a beautiful reverse. When you swirl them, it looks like there is a golden sunrise in back if Independence Hall. Unfortunately most of them come off as rather flat.

A $5 or $10 might be more appropriate at the rate we’re headed.

    I’d like a Dolly Parton $2.5, $5, or $10 coin.
