Of course all of the UHRs are unique. Not that it matters, but I just don't understand why that one in particular, which was available for quite some time, all of the sudden went crazy when the other ones have done either nothing or done ok. I wasn't aying attention at the time , so it certainly blew by me.

It probably got some added attention when it won Best Gold Coin in Krause Publication’s Coin of the Year (COTY) competition.

11,219 ATS for drop day as it stands now. I don't think this will be all that difficult to obtain if you want one.

That number plus the 1283 sold in advance might mean 2500 available at WFOM & mint stores.

That seems logical. Will be interested to hear the stories from those who go out to grab one in person. One week to go!

    The plan is set.....

    To the WFOM it is!

Early Bird ticket in hand, reservations made, flight booked.

I'll have a half-day Wed and a full day Thurs. Then, home.

I'm sure I'll waste a ton of time in line like a fool for the Mint booth. I'd think w/Early Bird I'll have a good shot.

My son will be a the DC shop (if it seems likely that they'll have them). Between all of this & my trying on my phone, I'll end up with 0 - 3 coins. My goal, it they're hot, would be to sell two to offset all of this. If they're not hot and I don't really like it in hand, back they'll all go but the WFOM will be cool anyway.

I'll send pics and reports - as I know that someone else said that they'd to.

I'm half expecting actual robots to physically bump me out of line as I have so much bot PTSD. The bot madness is really taking a toll on my enjoyment of all of this hobby.

Congratulations on son! Great accomplishment. I’m going to try the Philly gift shop and the web while in line. I only want one. Are you familiar with Pittsburgh?

Oops - looks like advance sales were 1781, not the 1283 reported on 8/16 sales report.
    My bad!
Looks like 2000 available at WFOM & mint stores.

Probably correct. Hope so. With the average on the up, could be looking at 5600 plus for final pricing. 4 & 5 are the best.

Agreed! That advancing gold price may keep more away. The relatively slow sales of the first three may have turned off a couple collectors interested in quick flips or a repeat of the 2021 American Liberty gold bronco.

The soft/weak strikes coupled with the high prices is making me wonder if I really want to buy the Saint Gaudens double eagle in this series as I have the double eagle issued in 2009. Heck, I'm even wondering if I want to buy the gold silver dollar at these prices and the less than spectacular appearances of the coins.

Could you clarify what you mean by this statement? I haven't seen any actual coins from the BOM 4 or 5 releases yet.

I think it was you who mentioned this before about the weak strikes, which led me to check out my BOM 1 2 and 3. My 1 and 2 are nice strikes, but the 3rd is very weak. Almost all the detail of Walking Liberty's upper body is very faint. I do in fact see what you're talking about here.

It is me that has commented about the weak strikes in another thread. I personally feel that the gold Mercury dime is a weak strike as I use the very best examples of the original, for-circulation Mercury dimes minted in the early twentieth century as a reference for excellence. I'm assuming that a gold planchet is softer than a silver planchet so I don't understand why the details are so weak.

I still intend to try to buy a gold silver dollar but the Mint needs to step up its game. Either increase the pressure on the presses or stamp the coins a few extra times. I want the details to pop. If the Mint disappoints me with the gold silver dollar (assuming I manage to order one), I may pass on the Saint Gaudens double eagle although maybe not since it's a high relief coin so maybe that one will have good detail. If gold were under $2,000 an ounce and premiums weren't so high, I wouldn't be carping; I'd buy them all without a second thought.

both 4 & 5 will be high relief

I compare the Best of the Mint Mercury dime with photographs of the best examples of Mercury dimes issued in the early twentieth century. The best silver Mercury dimes have much better detail than the gold Mercury dime. The bands on fasces on the reverse, for example.

I cannot comment about the Standing Liberty quarter as I am not familiar with those coins. On the Walking Liberty design however, the Best of the Mint gold coin doesn't look nearly as sharp as the best examples of the silver half dollars and it looks especially weak compared with the obverse of the American Silver Eagles.

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology but the fine details on the gold coins aren't very visible as they are on the original coins. I am assuming that the fine details aren't very visible because of not enough pressure used in the stamping or not stamping the planchets enough times.

Could it be that the US Mint is returning to the "original historical assets" for some of these BOM releases as it did with the 2026 ASE?
The 2026 ASE is not a sharp in detail (softer looking strike) as the 2025 for example.

    From a quick ai query

"The 2026 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin uses Adolph A. Weinman’s classic “Walking Liberty” obverse design, which the U.S. Mint returned to its original historical assets for this special one-year issue commemorating the Semiquincentennial."

Do you want them to be?

The answer is going to be "no." They don't buy to hold. They buy to flip.

And there is no guaranteed flip when ABPP does not even take its full allotment, as happened here. As a result, although no one knows what is ultimately going to happen until they are released and we can all see for ourselves, buyers clubs are not going to get involved in anything costing over $5500 where advance dealers don't take all they are allowed to.

Waiting to find out the actual price !! Gold cash spot ask is around $4670.70

BTW, just last week I logged into my US Mint account and my log in failed during 3 attempts. No reason given or pop ups. I figured that the time had come to reset my password. An intuitive rationale.
    Bingo. That worked.
So, for those that want to avoid a last minute hang up on release date(s), you might consider resetting your password pro-actively!

If the buyers clubs get on this, it would be tonight or Tuesday. Time is ticking! I believe it’ll be a waiting room in the beginning, but that we will succeed in getting one and breathe a sigh of “I paid too much” relief. 🤣

Yep, sure looks that way. After reading how the US Mint determines pricing, it does include language that allows them to determine the price not just on the London weekly average. We will see shortly. Here is the London average through yesterday:

    Weekly average (24 Aug 2026) =
    (4,634.20 + 4,663.70) ÷ 2
    = 4,648.95 USD/oz

    Summary:

    AM fix: 4,634.20 USD/oz

    PM fix: 4,663.70 USD/oz

    Weekly average: 4,648.95 USD/oz

4,648=5,790 per the US Mint Pricing Grid.

    Boom...we win.

I'm not seeing a difference in the 'ridiculous' premium compared to other similar releases, like the FHG, HR Liberty series, or even the Enhanced Gold Eagle.

Remember, there's a silver companion Medal included with this set that needs to be accounted for.

Sorry, should have clarified. The premium , of course , is the same relative to spot. It is just as spot goes up , the price becomes all the more astonishing even though the premium is as you point out the same. I was speaking more globally that with the premiums have gotten to the point of being ridiculous and it is turning me off from the hobby.

Of course, my own circumstances with my kids having no interest somwhate shapes perspective on the hobby.

I'm sure this issue will be beautiful, but doubt that it will ever appreciate and has a lot of downside if gold should drop.

I generally do not collect speculating on future value, but when i'm spending so much money on something , I certainly consider that.

Of course, absolutely correct again regarding the silver medal , but relative to this type of money an ounce of silver is very little.

Understand the hesitation. For most of us the cost is of a concern. I tend to look at this one and the Saint, as the ones to really focus on. Gold as a commodity in this case, is probably not an ideal investment. A month ago, it would have sold for much closer to 5K. The pictures look good but hoping it actually looks good in hand.

    Boom...we win.

The mark up is just so utterly insane.

I'm now very much on the fence w this - and the hobby in general for that matter.

I'm not going to the WFOM as planned. As much as I would love to see a lot of the displays there and the show in general , it's just too much given that I have to work all night tonight & I've lost much of my enthusiasm for this issue with the ridiculous price.

My son and I will still go to the DC store. It will be a great excuse for a father & son day downtown. I'll see how much I like this in person and how the sales seem to be shaking out and will then make a decision to get 0,1 or 2. If I buy any, it is also nice to see it in hand & make sure it looks good w no flaws before laying out that kind of money.

Being that my kids have zero interest in this hobby and how expensive it is getting, I am debating stopping where I am now and perhaps selling stuff off if metal prices rise and just keeping a few prized pieces.

I’m now on the fence also with the recent surge in gold. I can buy a nice 23-D Saint in P//CAC 65 holder for less money. I guess I will make my decision Thursday morning. But my sentiments have soured because of the projected price recently. Love the coin but I’m not sure it’s a good decision to buy at these levels!

The only point of two would be if it if sells out online in minutes and seems like a hit to sell one. If not, the beauty of the store is it can be returned w/o waiting a month for a refund.

There are a lot of collectors who had all of 2026 to think about this moment, and now with the price of gold being what it is, an instant sellout is much less likely. I believe @NJCoin may have pointed this possibility out weeks ago. We have two days left to find out.

Here's a graded one that has sold 2 already...and there are a few others.
The 15,000 mintage complicates the completion of a set of silver medals for those pursuing that.

    Very cool.

I only meant that, on pre-sales, the pattern seems to be that if the item turns out to not be as "hot" as expected, sales get cancelled. That said, for the medal I'd think that the sales are solid as the buyer is only after the medal and the only way to get one is solo like this or to shell out big $. This does change the calculus for the premium for the set.

Didn't see any raw sets being offered in pre-sale at all. Hopefully that means nobody is going after it for flipping purposes, and/or that they are really unsure if they'll be able to obtain them Thursday.

Look for $5790 to $5840.....one of those two prices is most likely.

Yep, sure looks that way. After reading how the US Mint determines pricing, it does include language that allows them to determine the price not just on the London weekly average. We will see shortly. Here is the London average through yesterday:

    Weekly average (24 Aug 2026) =
    (4,634.20 + 4,663.70) ÷ 2
    = 4,648.95 USD/oz

    Summary:

    AM fix: 4,634.20 USD/oz

    PM fix: 4,663.70 USD/oz

    Weekly average: 4,648.95 USD/oz

4,648=5,790 per the US Mint Pricing Grid.

The only point of two would be if it if sells out online in minutes and seems like a hit to sell one. If not, the beauty of the store is it can be returned w/o waiting a month for a refund.

You are definitely at an advantage buying personally at the store, even if you don't have the given luxury of inspecting or choosing the preferred sample in the possible 'heat off the moment' . You can rerun it soon after or else shortly after without having to pay $90 for insured registered mail. As you already cited.

I know what you mean about family members not interested in coins and other types of collectibles.
A few years ago, I offered to give a nephew around 5 pounds of 90% US quarters. He declined!!! Not interested. (a bucket of water in my face)

I gave half of that same 'pick' a year later to another nephew who at least appreciated the gesture and recognized the long term possible value, but he has zero interest in coin collecting etc. or bullion buying for any amount.
Other stuff I collect will probably fall into hollow hands after I kick the bucket unless I have a chance to liquidate beforehand.

Wife all due respect, this is just reverse FOMO. Listen to yourself rather than everyone else.

You were all hot and bothered a few days ago when the speculation was about bots and 2 minute sell outs. Then ABPP didn't take its full allotment, and you cancelled a trip that I always thought was a waste of time and money.

What are you going to do next week if it doesn't sell out Thursday, you decide it's too expensive and take a pass, and then it sells out? Chase it at 7:30?

It's the same coin it was when they cut the mintage in half and everyone was going nuts. Sure, it's a little more expensive than before, but the "insane" premium is no more or less insane than last month.

If you like it, buy if. If not, not. Don't just follow the herd.

It is indeed sad that our kids don't appreciate the stuff that we're really passionate about. But, it is what it is, and certainly for things that are expensive we have to contemplate how to best manage it. I think generally , that means selling it , and at least getting what you know the stuff is worth versus having your family deal with it , and they will never realize the full value.

    I hear you.

I'm definitely not going after anything competitive at seven thirty anymore , realizing that I have no chance against the bots.

Probably, much of this is my own unique personal situation.

The youngest of our two left for college on Saturday. I'm very close with my kids, and this has been a hard adjustment - not that I've adjusted this quickly by any means. However, these major events get one thinking. Among other things, as I see this coin in the near future as well as the one next month, knowing that my kids are just not interested, I was wondering what am I doing continuing to acquire expensive coins? While I'm sure this will be beautiful, it's a lot of money and there's really no home for my collection in the family when i'm gone. All of this has me really reconsidering the hobby as it has gotten so expensive. In many ways, it does not make sense for me to continue acquiring these issues.

Certainly , if it seemed like an insane flip opportunity , I could see getting a couple flipping one and keeping one just because it's beautiful for not a ton of money. However, as this looks less likely, I don't know that it makes sense to even get one.

Anyway, sorry for the diatribe, but as I said, thinking about my personal situation is what really got me to reconsider.

    Meant to add...

Re: WFOM, beyond the coin, I was very much looking forward to seeing the 1933s and many of the other exhibits. It's just too much to deal with when I have to work all night tonight.

I thought...the day after I bought the 1804 (which I really wanted this year), it was going to sit there. I came to my senses and will enjoy vicariously everyone else getting there's. I just kept $6,000 in my pocket. Buy one for me boys.

I had to click a few times to get my order to go through. Got a message about high order volume, etc, but it went thru on my second attempt.

The price is going to help tomorrow not be so bad, unless you want it in the first 2-3 minutes of the on-sale time.
