it is way too early for this, but i just had the most bizarre experience of my gambling life and i must share. my head is still spinning.
so, i woke up and decided to play a few hands of live blackjack at my sportsbook (betonline). i sat down at a 50$-20k table, and i noticed the timer running down. i hurriedly pressed the 10$ chip so i could reach the minimum before it timed out. i was clicking at warp speed. $10.......$20........$30.......$1,030. WHAT???????????????? time was up. i had no earthly idea what just happened, but i instantly started having heart palpitations. 4:30 in the freaking morning and i find myself in the middle of a $1,030 blackjack hand. i didn't have time to delete my bet. the dealer started flinging cards. i get an ace, dealer shows a king. my second card is a 3. mind you, i'm shaking at this point. i had to play out the hand. i hit and got a 3. i hit again and got a jack. i stood on 17. dealer turns over an 8. i felt like projectile vomiting all over my monitor.
i immediately opened up a live chat to relay to a rep what had just happened. i calculated my odds of getting my grand back at roughly 0%. i explained to the best of my ability what went down, and i specifically asked that he please review the hand microsecond by microsecond and look at the amount i was piecing together to get in the hand. that was the only proof i had that it was a terrible glitch. the guy i spoke to was nice enough and said he would create a ticket to escalate the matter.
if the story ended there, it would be a good one. but what happened next makes it one for the ages.
about 10 minutes later i came back and pulled up the ticket that had been created. there was a resolution already. "Hello Stephen, Kindly be advised that $1000 has been credited to your account as courtesy, in future keep in mind that all bets are final and no refunds can be made on live betting." i copied and pasted that. i was in complete disbelief that they had given me my money back.
then, i looked at my balance to see if it read $2,049.47 (which was the correct amount with the credit). it was not $2,049.47. it was $11,049.47. at that point i needed a shower to fully wake up, because it felt like i was still asleep. when i got out and got dressed, i pulled up my account. still $11,049.47.
back to the live chat i went. the ticket that had been created was already closed, so i had to speak to someone new. when i provided the ticket number and explained what had happened, i was told that the situation had been resolved in my favor as a one-time courtesy measure. these were my exact words to the rep: "i can't even begin to tell you how grateful i am to get those funds back, but in the process of doing so, you credited my account TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS." i pop tarts you not, this was the response: "it's ok, one-time courtesy."
if you think they will catch the error, they will not. i know this book well. i've been with them for a long time. they have effed up in my favor before. they once credited my account 750$ twice, when it should have only happened once. i brought it to their attention, and they basically said keep it. i was at peace with the situation because i tried to give it back. but when Betonline has "resolved" a situation, they thoroughly wash their hands of it.
i don't have any more time to deal with this at the moment, especially after writing all of this, so i'm going to tackle it again tonight. sitting down to play a 50$ blackjack hand at 4:30 am that turned into a $1,030 loser, only to then receive a 10k credit was most definitely not on my Monday bingo card.
I don't have any stories that measure up to that, but I do have some that pertain to the topic of casinos making mistakes, and the steps that they have taken to correct them.
I'll let the discussion of this incident run it's course before I jump in with mine.
If you've done all that you can do to alert the casino that they've overpaid you on the refund, and they still insist on you keeping the money, then I don't think you need to do anything more than celebrate!
That's a heckuva nice thing they did, or is it? Firstly, I'd say the chances of you being able to successfully withdraw the 10k are zero. Try withdrawing it, and don't count any chickens until the money is in your bank account. However don't even try it, you'll never receive the money, and they'll flag your account, perhaps permanently.
You may be thinking, well I'll bet the 10k on a pick 'em game, and if it hits, I'll withdraw the 10k winnings. That would go thru. Well I sincerely doubt if it would go thru. They would flag the bet, and void the bet for wagering with money that shouldn't have been given to you. These offshore books don't even need any reason, they operate with impunity in their country of origin. US law can't touch them.
Bottom line, their goal is to have you increase your wagering amounts, blow thru the 10k which in reality is nothing more than phony money, and then you deposit more real money, and lose that as well.
Frankly, RNG's (random number generators) especially from offshore casinos, are so terribly rigged it's not even funny, and they have been for a long time. "Random" they are not. Probably with AI now, it's gotten even worse, to fool the player into believing that they're getting a fair shake on their bets.
The nice thing about sports betting is the results are public information and no book can rig that. The offshore book could screw ya in various ways regarding deposits and withdrawals, but they can't screw ya on the game results.
Yes, because gambling websites just enjoy helping people by giving away large sums of free money. 🙄
Brick and mortar casinos are friendly as well, with their comps and extending high credit if a customer qualifies. Just sign for a marker and the "free" money is yours. Sure is lots of weekend fun, that is until the markers hit your bank account on Tuesday morning and drain your money out of there. If the money isn't in your account, that's when the real fun starts. Casinos employ the most vicious lawyers in society. They will file suit, and legally take your house, car, money and everything else. Smiling while doing it.
While I don’t bet on sports I do place bets in card games. Enough that I can stay a couple places in Vegas whenever. I was waiting for my wife last time to come down and played a few hands before leaving and didn’t have time to cash.
I almost always stay at the Virgin. We should go play Hold-em there. I read a book about it and it seems like a fun game.
i probably didn't express myself as effectively as i could have this morning. it was very early and in the midst of getting ready for work it felt like i was living in a bizarro world. i'm not planning on trying to keep the money, i just need time to call someone to get things straightened out. communicating via live chat with multiple people who don't exactly speak fluent English and think the problem has already been resolved hasn't gone well to this point. it was just too much for me to process and i was strapped for time to properly address it this morning.
the thing i'm most amazed by is an offshore book in Panama doing things like this. i can almost guarantee that if you were to hop on reddit you'd probably see countless posts from people saying how betonline screwed them to high heaven. but i'm here to tell you that my experiences have been nothing but positive. for crying out loud, they refunded me a 4-figure blackjack bet within minutes when they could have easily told me to go kick rocks. and as i mentioned previously, they just let me keep 750$ one time. there's no other way to describe it. even after the conversation i initiated in an attempt to give it back, i STILL waited for the day accounting caught it and zapped 750$ from my account. well, that was a couple of years ago and it hasn't happened.
10k is an entirely different story. this may sound strange, but in a purely hypothetical world where they never catch the error and the money becomes mine without any pitfalls, the quality of my sleep would suffer from that day forward. my conscience would chew me up and spit me out. and it matters not if they are largely unscrupulous. my focus is always on me and my actions. so if it came across as if i was gloating because i thought i just fell bassackwards into a windfall, that was not the case. there was an implosion between my ears and my brain was oozing out, and i was simply attempting to convey an interesting gambling anecdote..............because that's what we do here.

i'll keep you guys updated.
(the $ is still in my account.)
This I do know about American laws. If making an ATM withdrawal for say $40, and the machine spits out 4k, and you don't report it and give the money back to the bank, I think that is a felony. You could be criminally prosecuted for "stealing" the money, even though it wasn't your error.
Whether this situation is legally similar, and/or how it would apply to American laws, I do not know. I'm not sure one way or the other, if an unlicensed Panama gambling website could file suit in an American court of law. I'm guessing they probably could.
Perhaps a good strategy moving forward, just my opinion, would be to contact someone there high up in the company, and get their express written approval that the 10k is not an error, or something to that effect. Then I would think the coast is clear.
However if despite the letter, they did come back later against you, and possibly file suit in a Texas courtroom to get back the 10k, in my opinion that letter would be a slam dunk win for you, and a judge would quickly dismiss their lawsuit.
Speaking of Reddit, yes there's sometimes a lot of BS on there, but also a lot of good information as well. You may want to see if this "offer" was given out to others before. You could also check on gambling forums, you probably know the popular ones. If there are any posts in this regard about this bookie "giving out" high sums of money such as this.
One last thing. A good buddy of mine, who quit going to casinos years ago. But when he did, we would drive down to A/C and he always began with 5k or 10k cash. He could get basically any comp he wanted, rooms, food, etc. I loved it because even though I was gambling much less, I benefited from his meal comps, and the room comps when we brought the girls with us. As much as he wagered, mostly on blackjack, they never came even remotely close to offering a free 10k cash comp.

all's well that ends well. had a great chat with a rep just now. they scratched my back, i scratched theirs. my honesty was worth 200$.
(the smallish bonus is a monthly boost they dish out)
suffice it to say, when 4:30 AM rolls around tomorrow morning, i'll be sound asleep
You did the right thing. Saved yourself a lot of headaches later.
True story I had forgotten about. So I'm at the track, had around 2k in my account. It was the early days of the track having a little kiosk thing at your table, whereby you could just sit there and punch in a bet, rather than run back and forth to a teller every single time. Very convenient.
Anyway so I'm ready to punch in a bet, look at my balance, and there's over 2 million dollars in there. I must have starred at it for around ten seconds. I don't do drugs, and I never drank when I gambled, so I knew I wasn't seeing delusions. A track buddy of mine who I sat with for many years, I told him to take a look at this kiosk amount and tell me what you see. He said I see over 2 million dollars.
I figured the brains upstairs who ran the track, tote system, etc, would quickly figure it out. But I didn't place any bets on the kiosk while it was displaying that amount. Just went up to the teller and gave him cash and placed the bets. I didn't want to possibly screw-up the 2k that I actually had in there.
Took them around 45 minutes, whatever it was, and the balance went back to the right 2k number. But it sure was nice being a millionaire for 45 minutes. LOL

galaxy - here's the question and I am still undecided...
if you win that hand... do you call them and report the mistake? because I think that's the philosophical moral dilemma.
that's a very good question, and it's one i addressed with the first rep i spoke to. i told that dude win or lose, i was contacting you guys. if i had connected on a BJ it would have been over 1.5k that i didn't deserve. i can't pick and choose when to do what's right.
it was a full-blown glitch, and that's why the refund took a matter of minutes. even the dealer had a quizzical look on her face, because it went 10, 20, 30, 1030 in rapid succession.
I may have mentioned this in a post a few years ago. There's a casino in my area, I'm not gonna mention the name, that is notorious for slot machine jackpots being hit, the player hitting it is overwhelmingly jubilant for a life changing event, and then minutes later finds out that it was a computer malfunction, and no payout would be made.
Some players have taken the casino to court over this. However every plaintiff wound-up losing the case. The judge ruling in favor of the casino, case dismissed.
Yes, mistakes happen. But what galls me, is some players were interviewed afterwards by the media, and all the casino offered them as an apology, was a stinking meal comp. So the players went from not receiving a huge amount of expected money, to instead receiving a meal comp. The casino, in my view, rubbing salt in the wound with such a pathetic meager offer.
However you define the term "successful gambler", I am easily in the 99th percentile.
Some guy going to AC a couple times a year with $5,000 or $10,000 isn't going to ever experience the level of comps the big hitters get.
When I was 7STAR at Harrah's/Caesars, I was putting in 1500+ hours a year in high limit, playing $100+ per hand. Easily $10,000,000+ cumulative wagering a year... all while winning some money, as well.
I was never backed off or limited.
The comps they showered on 7STAR players were cartoonish. Never having to pay for flights to other Harrah's/Caesars properties or rooms at those properties was just the tip.
stevek always makes me chuckle when he tries to mansplain everything about gambling, like he's done it all and knows it all. He may be speaking from his experience, and he may have more experience than most, but there's a whole 'nother world out there, man, for the big dogs.
I was 7STAR for 6 years and also the various levels of diamond player for another 25 total on either side of that. I don't say that as a brag, just to stress that I am not an infrequent player, at all. I've likely logged more in person casino time then every person in this thread, COMBINED. Lol
I know some people will read all of that and say, "How sad..." And I understand why people would say that, because they make the usual assumptions. It's all good here, I can promise you.
I found a few expired cards of mine from 2011-13 in a drawer the other day. I know this "proves" nothing. But who else do you know that owns expired 7STAR cards with first name Douglas and the 121 code for Kansas City as the first 3 digits of the 11 digit player number just laying around? Lol
I also found a book from 2012 or 2013 with some of the special trips to choose from, too. I don't know if anybody is interested in seeing pics of the individual choices.

Nice to win a bonus bet I wasn’t having much luck with them lately. And nice to see Bobby Witt have a great game….

Joshua Baez to hit 2+ HR +7000
The media has been reporting that an unknown gambler from Texas, has placed a 100k bet on the Baez 2+ HR prop to win 7 million.

Baez 0-fer 4 today thus far. He will get probably only one more chance at bat to try and hit the HR prop.

so, i woke up and decided to play a few hands of live blackjack at my sportsbook (betonline). i sat down at a 50$-20k table, and i noticed the timer running down. i hurriedly pressed the 10$ chip so i could reach the minimum before it timed out. i was clicking at warp speed.

That is AWESOME!
That is just a fantastic story!
Epic story @galaxy27
I am SOOOO PUMPED FOR YOU!!!
🍻🍀💥🔥
The offshore book could screw ya in various ways regarding deposits and withdrawals, but they can't screw ya on the game results.
who brought captain bummer!
Amazing story Galaxy! 🥳
I thought after you got the ace you were going to get a blackjack but it got even better. Congrats! 😀

Wow - good for you. You're a big dog.
Looking forward to your football picks this upcoming season. We'll enjoy seeing a sports betting genius in action.
Nice to win a bonus bet I wasn’t having much luck with them lately. And nice to see Bobby Witt have a great game….

1 dinger, 1 double, 1 single, 4 runs, 3 rbi’s, a walk and a stolen base. That should help the WAR.
