North/South/Central American Coins Thursday, let's see them!

I bought this pair of British West Indies patterns in the Stacks Bowers auction today. Among the finest graded, albeit with a few light carbon spots.

I believe these are William Wyon creations. Both from the Charles “Cheech” Litman Collection.

During the Heritage ANA auction, a friend offered me this very rare 1849 Popayan proof pattern 10 Reales. There are three documented with this being the finest of the three. It took very little time to link this coin back to the 1964 Schulman sale of the Virgil Brand estate. In recent times, the coin was in the Eldorado sale and then Cape Coral. This piece is graded SP65 with the Norweb coin graded SP64 and the Restrepo plate a lower grade.

The 1849 Bogota pattern is noted in the Norweb sale as being made by William Wyon. The designs are very close aside from the obvious Bogota/Popayan naming. A potential link to Wyon and the location of production (likely London) is in the research plan for this piece.

One of those things that immediately took me from “didn’t know it existed” to “I need to own that” as soon as it was shown to me in Pittsburgh.

1972 silver Death of Roberto Clemente medal issued by the Puerto Rican Numismatic Society. Should probably be graded SP instead of MS as it is absolutely a proof, but whatever.

Also back from PCGS:

Added attribution as a Yonaka M2-34c, which is most appropriately designated as a 1734/3 "MF over Floret" Mo MF 2 Reales, as Yonaka does not wholly commit to this being a MF/F. If there is a MF/F, this is it.

The 1732 and some 1733 2 Reales coins had solely an F assayer bracketed above and below by florets. Some later 1733 and 1734 coins had a stop above M and F assayers with nothing below. This coin accordingly shows a 1732 obverse modified to a later 1733-1734 obverse.

The new F is punched over a floret, the upper stop is punched over a floret, and there is a "ghost" of the old F between the overpunched M and new F.
