Anybody here old enough to remember how back in the 1970’s and 1980’s and 1990’s and 2000’s and 2010’s and 2020’s people very much like us kept saying “Dollar Coins Will Circulate When They Stop Issuing Dollar Bills!”
“Be careful what you ask for. You might just get it!”

No one is asking for anything. Just stating facts.

People are attached to paper, and the only way to wean them will be to eliminate paper. That said, so many payments are electronic nowadays that it is far more likely that paper will be replaced by cards and smartphones than by coins.

Plus, he’s gonna get two more, like Grover Cleveland on the presidential series, too. Congress could end the presidential dollar series , this year. We could make it part of the “save” act :joy:
No politics intended. Attempt at comedy.

Yes. They produce those coins for sale to collectors. To my knowledge, they are not distributed to banks, because there is no demand for them. People who want them buy them from the Mint. They don't go to banks looking for them. Dollar coins simply do not circulate in the US.

There will be some demand for these, due to their unique nature

    Agreed on no demand but....
"Some demand due to unique nature." What is the unique nature? Just curious.

You are trying to get me banned, but I will take the bait. The unique nature is a sitting, living president being featured prominently on the obverse of US coinage.

Think what you want about the merits. It is unique and collectible.

The legislation currently in Congress to approve a Carter Presidential Dollar and First Spouse Gold Coin also includes language to approve similar Presidential Dollar coins and First Spouse Gold coins going forward so that you don't need new legislation in future years when the time comes for coins for Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden, Trump and so on...

Seems like that legislation would take politics out for the most part :+1:

The history of every circulating dollar coin, ever, with exceptions of Western state use when dollars contained a dollar's worth of silver, and casino use back in the day, and trade dollars is that the coins won't be used, no matter whose face is on them.

Not until they stop printing the Dollar Bill.

I believe the limit is only for the first 24 hours... so might be able to get more if they don't sell out first

From some posts I've seen on Facebook, the US Mint is giving these coins out right now at the ANA show... Seen a few pics of people having them in hand.

A friend of mine from the Chicago area posted one such picture on FB. He said that there was some machine at the Mint booth where you could put paper money in and get the dollar coins.

    61 ÷ 25 = $2.44 / $1 coin in roll
    154.50 ÷ 100 = $1.55 / $1 coin in bag

...why would anyone buy a roll?

edited to say, I spose a lower point of entry ... ? my god the premium tho

Why do people buy any of the roll or bag sets from the Mint?

    Hope of an error???

why would anyone buy a roll?

To search for one suitable for inclusion in their registry set of flashy gold-colored dollars?

    Hardly unique, but still collectible.
Although not "prominently", sitting President Calvin Coolidge did share the obverse with great company, President George Washington, on the 1926 Sesquicentennial Half.
Not only is there a precedent, it is rarified.

Who got "advanced delivery rolls"? 🤨

Will these be mixed in with the rolls and bags being offered next week? 🤔

It’s a good thing they made a lot of them - at this inflation rate they’ll soon be able to be substituted for the penny. Heh

The Big Boys ordered some on the 20th.

They ordered 150,000 rolls, and 50,000 bags, poof.

It sounds like they'll be mixed in. Let the madness begin.

Are you sure they ordered that many? Those are the same numbers for the product limits on the mint's webpage for next week.

That doesn’t even include any bulk sales of the big bags on pallets.

We were assured by a certain member here that the originally expected mintage (based on the product limits) of 8,750,000 would never sell out and would still be available through 2027.

It seems that 8,000,000+ have already been sold?

No, I'm not sure. I didn't/don't usually track ats for the AB's the day before their allotments go live. Maybe someone will show up with that?

I went to the AB pages and referenced their "Product Limits" posted below the ats area.

This was my assumption based on other AB product pages that show their respective product limits.

Maybe the Mint, in this case is showing the same PL for both the AB's and Retail?
