I emailed the mint asking about the finish, and got this reply: To commemorate the Semiquincentennial of our Nation’s founding, the Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars Two-Coin Set will be proof instead of reverse-proof, the individual Morgan & Peace Silver Dollars will be reverse-proof, and the uncirculated coins will have an enhanced-uncirculated finish.

thanks
So enhanced uncirculated like reverse proof I would guess.
What about the diamond plate pattern in the fields? Which one is that?

hideous
OTOH, these will be offered at a premium to regular proof Morgan and Peace Dollars. $375 for the two coins, when prior year proof coins currently go for $173 each.
This is the description from the website: The Morgan and Peace Dollar Two-Coin Set contains one Morgan Dollar Coin and one Peace Dollar Coin with stunning finishes. A unique set for the serious collector!"
I have no idea why they are being coy and playing games, but it is as close to a guarantee as you can get with the Mint that these are not going to be regular proof coins.
Fair enough. And I'm agnostic on the reported diamond pattern. But all indications are that they are not premium pricing standard proof finish coins, without just saying on the website that they are standard proof finish coins. It is almost certainly going to be something "unique," in their words.
Agreed, IF they are standard proof. But, if it's a one-off finish, they might have legs. At least it's not 250K! TBD.
Yeah. I can't argue with you on that. 125K EU ASEs flew off the shelf, so it's possible that 160K could be good, if it's something they never did before. After all, they DID sell 150-160K of the RPs.
But, if it's the diamond finish, some love it while others think it's too busy and hate it. Also, they are forcing people to buy two coins rather than one, and at a premium to what they charged for the EU. And then, Morgan and Peace are just not as popular as ASE.
So, again, I can't argue, although I can state a case that buying it might not be setting money on fire. Have you seen the ATS for the subscription? They ARE almost all gone right now, and will surely be all gone once people notice that.
Yeah. But that's now the going price. ~$170 per coin.
This is a premium to that of ~$20 per coin. Not crazy with a mintage of 160K, assuming there is demand.
We know there wouldn't be for a regular finish, and this might end up being much ado about nothing. OTOH, 160K for a one and done finish at ~$190 per coin could end up being a winner.
I don't feel strongly about this one way or the other. But, if they sell out the subscriptions, and the ABPP take a chunk, leaving less than 50K for sale at release, you could see a flip. Stranger things have happened lately.
Why do they have to speak in riddles?
Too bad Frank Gorshin isn't still around they could have used him in PR.
