Decided it was time for a Mantle Auto Card again after selling what I had.
A POP 9 - 5 HIGHER

Keeping with the auto trend:

This is major! Invaluable item! 😎
Sold for the popcorn and then can be used as a megaphone.
Harry M. Stevens had at one time the concessions for Yankee Stadium, The Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field - along with another individual, he's credited with popularizing the stadium hot dog.
I thought this was very nice for the grade.
I added an auto of Dave Steward - MVP of the '89 WS and game 5 full ticket - not used since they won 4-0. And the press pins to my display. To review - the WS trophy was front office.
PS: I found out that the Dave Kelley trophy belonged to an agent for 3 players in MLB.
I wouldn't be surprised if he had to pay for the trophy - and they weren't cheap since it's not like they make a ton of them?
Decided to try CGC / JSA autograph authentication on 2 cards in my PC. I was confident the Sievers auto was authentic, but not so sure about Sandberg. His autograph changed over the years. Chose option to have auto authenticated, not graded.
Overall, very pleased with results, took about 3 months. I also have a 5 card grading order with them, again just to try them out.
Continuing the auto theme, got this today:

A few upgrades.
Late 60's and early to mid 70's non-sports
Upgrade to my Ryan collection:

1973 OPC Mays is favorite of mine. Welcome to the PSA 9 club.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Not even a minute do I buy the whole buh buh buh I'm a man-child japery - Me (2025)
1 of only 3 packs known
Found my Non-Sport "Tallboy" box that has has hidden from me for near 15 years.
The highlight was Sir Patrick. As I recall it was only available via a Skybox redemption certificate or at least that is how I obtained both of mine.
While not a new Acq. It feels like it is!

There was also a Reading Rainbow related item:

Today purchases

Happy to have added this Hank to the collection. I had owned 1 of the 7 PSA 9's and regretted letting it go. This 8 isn't as nice but takes away some of the sting.
Jim,
Any 1980/81 Topps basketball wax boxes purchases from the National?
GORGEOUS MAYS!!!!!
I'm a Notre Dame fan but I grew up near Ann Arbor and follow UM football as well. I think Bryce may have a big year with Kyle Whittingham coaching him instead of the degenerate Sherrone Moore.
I’m pretty sure that’s Beck’s role there. Wittingham isn’t an offense guy. Or wasn’t at Utah. It will be a different system.
Yeah, I was trying to keep it simple, college football isnt a big topic here. The point is that it's clear Sherrone Moore wasnt paying attention to the team last year and Whittingham is great coach with lesser talent. Now he has UM talent, I expect a big year from UM.
Back in the Saddle with a 64 Rose. I sold my PSA 9 a couple years ago.
Chris,
Beautiful Rose!
Oh my, that '64 Pete Rose is stunning! Here is a new addition to my 1971 OPC baseball set, a tough high number of baseball's final 30 game winner. L-R centering is pretty much par for the course for this particular card:

went to a 3-game set between the Cardinals & Rockies last weekend. i wandered into the STL authentic store at the stadium and saw a wall of game-used baseballs. immediately i turned into a kid in a candy store. BUT, my skepticism was sky high. i needed to know more, so i flagged a shop employee down. come to find out, balls taken out of play for any reason are immediately notated and sent there for resale. roughly 99.5% of them told an unspectacular story -- foul, slider in the dirt, fly out, etc. my quest was to find a J-Walk ball that had a productive ending. literally had to comb through hundreds of exemplars before i found one that resulted in a hit. along the way i found another single that came off the bat of a former MVP who will probably join the 250/250 club soon.
but the coolest thing about them? it's an MLB thing. not only does each ball come with a hologram number, but there's also a validation code on a sticker affixed to the ball itself. that code has three letters that can only be seen as the ball is slowly rotated. once you get them, you can then go to mlb.com and input the hologram number and validation code to receive copious information.
my deepest regret is not buying more of these
Shout out to Brian @backbidder for helping me knock out a huge chunk of the set.

What a great looking set.
Thank you! Years and years of chipping away at it. Down to 78 left.
That '59 layout looks beautiful. I never thought the photos were the greatest that year, but I don't think there's a better looking set from the 50s than that one. Just so many cool colors, graphics and logos. That's one set that almost needs to be shown laid out instead of being in a box or binder. Those are super-cool.
That a serious haul - impressive - congratulations!
There was a member - Mariner - who was doing the set I believe - can't think of a better set to do?
@BBBrkrr @Stone193 Thank you! Like you said the design, colors and graphics was why I started working on this set. I would keep the set laid out more, but then the wife might not be too happy with me. Lol Mariner used to post his '59's on the set registry board. I believe his set is the #2 set on the registry. Every '59 he posted was a 9 or a 10. He has some amazing cards for sure.
Wow Chris - that's a sweet 8!
In fact, I'm giving it a "Stone" cold award! - good eye for sure. 👍
Stop making 10s look bad!
Negative 5 , also no sticker sticker.
In my opinion, these are much harder to find than series 1
Tom - We probably passed by each other!
I like that box!
Pop. 3
Bringing home this George which seemed rather nice for a 4.
Just about the nicest 4 that i've ever seen.
about five to ten years ago that might have been a psa 6 or 7 grade.
A few of my recent pickups. The Akeem was a recent sub that just came back. It was a BGS Authentic with a 10 auto. I really thought it had a chance for a 7 but just missed it.
Nice to see you are still collecting the high end basketball. Thank you!
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
Finally picked up a centered and clean 75 Fisk for my set. Not as easy as one would think.
ON ITS WAY TO NEWPORT BEACH, CA 92658
Some national pick-ups. The Nike poster cards are from a 1994 Upper Deck reprint set (mislabeled by SGC but too lazy to fix it at the moment).
ICEMAN
That's an impressive haul from the Natty!! Congratulations.
Ya know - I think I remember that Dawkins went right from high school to the NBA?
I could see it as a 7. And part of the reason I say that is if I saw it 10 years ago as a 7, I probably would want to buy it. Centering is great. Corners a little touched but not horrible by old standards. Then 75 can have terrible print issues and the ones on this 4 dont seem so bad. Congrats.
Glad you said something because I was about to say those SGC dates were WAY off.
Love the NIKE poster cards from those other guys not named Jordan.
