Newp 1847-O NGC VF-25 CAC
Only 16 CACs for all grades. Some small lines on face, but they did not bother me much. The rarest O mint $5.

unusual for a 1891 to show this much color/toning; more fitting for a 1905;
hard to believe the RD; when? how long ago?
difficult to capture the ruby RD color.

This won’t be submitted to EERC or CAC; I bought it for its unique color & exceptional eye appeal!

She sure is pretty Ken. Wouldn’t pass that up either. Never saw an IHC with that much attractive color, designated as RD. Being that it’s in an old rattler, perhaps it toned over the years in the holder. Nice.

1776 is the year the 13 colonies declared independence. 8 reals from that date are hard to come by due to their demand. Not only was it minted on independence year, it is also pre 1857 legal tender.

Just got this one. Looks like an older PCGS holder as it has the barcode on the back. How were the grading standards back then? Lacks, stringent or about what it is today?

I’ve always been attracted to those slabs. I can’t go as far as “stringent” grading, but I think they met standards. As I collect IHC’s, though, some of the RD’s given in those days would be RB today. Mellowing in the holder maybe? As that grading period was some 25 years ago, that’s a possibility. JMO.
