1839-1891 Liberty Seated Half dollars in lower circulated grades?

Do most people who collect this series in say G-04 to F-12 tend to collect them mostly raw versus graded? What dates would one have to keep an eye open to make sure it is not a fake.
I am new to the series and sometimes I see some nice circulated raw coins and wonder if they are worth buying versus graded.

I like the look of worn Seated and Barber coins in slabs so in my own opinion, whenever I get a coin from those eras I do like to get them in a slab.

They are genuine. But they are pitted and discounted for the environmental damage.

Also, considering OP's propensity for frequent huge veers in his collecting goals and past difficulties selling rare, problematic coins which are financially significant to him, he should also consider the resale difficulty inherent in details coins.

The only coins I have ever had difficulty selling at the prices I have paid are Latin American coins and that is because I am in a rush to sell to simply move on and put the money into SLH like I am doing. I could take much longer and get better prices but I am in no mood to wait years. I want out of Latin American coins and stick with USA SLH's. There are 2 periods I like in history when it comes to coins pirates and the wild west in the USA. I am done with the pirates and will stick with SLH's moving forward. I gave Latin American coins a chance and the rarity is annoying same as having to look every day so many times just in case I miss a coin the n I have top wait years even for damaged coins. They are to rare and time consuming. Otherwise great for those that do not mind that but I did it for 5-6 years and simply had enough.
I could not take the fact I had to buy all the coins or else mentality of Latin American coins any more. Same as searching on and on and on for years on a daily basis. It is/was draining!!!
US coins are mostly not like that hence my change of direction and the wild west connection. I am not going back to pirates and will stick with the wild west since I care for no other time periods when it comes to coins. Like anyone I would like to own 1st year issues but they are very expensive (I mean 1793 & 1794).

In lower grades this is a fun to do, affordable and very doable set (ex. 1878-S)
Makes sense to me. Whatever you want to collect, it’s good to consider the amount of time, effort and money it will take to do it to your satisfaction. So many people don’t think about that until it’s too late, which can be an expensive mistake.

I put together a date set of cents. It’s a mixture of certified and raw coins. I will never be able to lay it out in a set of six or seven albums, but that’s okay. It’s in my head. As an advanced collector, I have done that for years. The grades range from VG-10 for the 1799 to Gem Proof for the modern common dates.
