Anybody ever hear of a Texas gold quarter eagle? From The Numismatist, April 1930.

    I've seen numerous sources state that the Republic of Texas authorized the mintage of gold and silver coinage but never actually minted any.

    Maybe someone inspired by Bechtler made some but who knows? The timing is curious. Texas was only a republic from 1836-1845 and Bechtler was active from 1831-1850.

    I thought of that, but that is an awful small coin to counterstamp with that much text.

    I have no idea what it was. Mehl was no fool. I am sure that he had something interesting, but what that was we will probably never know.
