It appears this has become the Great Collections/eBay Advertisement Board

Does anyone actually buy/sell/trade coins here anymore or has this just become a SPAM forum for advertisements for auctions elsewhere? Clearly not what our host had in mind and certainly not the way it used to be. RGDS!

Of course I also kinda agree though, im not sure how I feel about seeing all the ebay links posted here lately. I dont ever click on them, if I wanted to look at ebay I'd just go to ebay, I like buying coins here because i dont have to deal with the ebay bs and hiked up prices due to there fees

I've purchased one coin here and also promoted my eBay store at least once. The reason I chose to link my store is because my inventory is mostly sub-$100 coins and it would be time-consuming for me to add all the photos here (and frankly, most forum members wouldn't care about them.) Those who do could browse all the listings I already made knowing they can save 9% by messaging me here.

I understand disliking auction links in the BST because "if I wanted the coin I would be searching for it". However, I once saw a coin I liked that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten because I wasn't paying attention to GC auctions at the time. Sometimes the best coins are those you didn't think you needed.

Why not bid? You get a chance to win a coin for the price you are willing to pay or less. Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

I'm occasionally selling, and regularly buying here on the BST. Non-GC / Non-eBay transactions do exist!

First and foremost I don't want to wait 2 weeks. If I see something I like and I'm willing to pay X amount, I'd rather pay that amount now, even if it is more.

The other side...buyers premium and payment fees. Rather that % go into the pocket of the seller.
Shipping costs as well, although that is typically figured in the cost of the item in a person to person transaction.

I'm not against anyone posting their Ebay or auction or even website links in the BST forums, I just agree there should be either a single post for them all or a forum dedicated to them so we don't have to weed through them.

This board is mostly people looking for deals...
If you want to get a coins market value most of the time you have to go through GC.
I recently tried to sell a large portion of stuff and it was a lot of bottom feeding or people trying to race to the bottom.

I ended up wholesaling the gold because it was better than the offers I received here.

I no longer market my GC coins here. I think it’s probably a waste of time posting links to GC. Very little slips through the cracks on GC and the market ultimately places a value on the coin. Most of us who frequent the BST are also viewing coins on a regular basis on GC.

I agree with the earlier post that there should be a dedicated post or category just for all the off site offerings. For those who do post them here on the bst I would much rather have a picture of the actual coin being offered here with the link instead of having to leave the bst to view it. Like others here, I usually skip eBay and GC posts.

I agree. This should be for people actually looking to trade with other forum members, not a lure to commercial websites.
I do observe that many sellers on Great Collections net below melt on gold coin sales, especially MS63 and below Saints.

Has to be well below net because I am buying them at melt (and occasionally less) and that's including the buyers fees and shipping. Full and half eagles as well. But that's a whole other story, I don't dislike GC/eBay, I am a customer at both, I just dislike coming to the BST thread to see more advertisements for auctions then actual coins for sale/trade/wanted here at PCGS. THKS!

Buy, Sell or trade U.S. Coins.

I have zero problems with links to any Auction House.

    +1

Out of respect to those who have no interest in coins on GC or eBay please make that abundantly clear in your title.

I like being aware of where nice coins are being sold.

Some coins are hard to price and best sold at auction - I've had zero success selling expensive coins here.

Depends on your definition of "expensive". For one buyer it could be $200 for another it could be $20k.
