Whatnot purchase

So I went to check out the story on whatnot. Basic coin auction with lots of widgets.
Then this popped on the screen. I figured I would bid to see if I could buy it at good price.
There a pretty nice uncirculated set.
I Paid $181 or roughly $36 each.
I had to get out of there though. I would have spent ton that I really don't have right now.
Heading to the Caribbean for a few weeks. Need to keep my powder dry.

I hope when they arrived they are not cleaned.
Otherwise, tough to go wrong for that price.
Nice bonus having an "S" mintmark on the 1943.

I have them in hand. They took a week to get here.
They are pretty nice. Worthy of submission.
I can't get a good image with them in the capsules but I don't feel like ripping them all open.
To much work after work ;)

Those sets are usually not actual UNCs. I assume you don't have them in hand?

If the pictures aren't good, it's probably not worth having anyone comment on them?

Silver value is about $21 each at the moment. Late-date Walkers have never had a huge premium. I assume you overpaid, but at least you didn't overpay by much

Don’t assume the opposite of something that was posted at the same time (rounded to the nearest minute) as your assumption was, but which appeared above yours.😉

$15 each over melt. Not a lot of downside. Not sure I would slab them if “pretty nice”.

With spot silver barely above $21at the moment, paying $36/coin sounds to me like it might not have been so tough to go wrong - even if not to a cringe-worthy extent.

I believe I will give them to my son to save for my grandson. He's only 18 months old but the day will come and hopefully they will bring him happiness.

Picked up assayed gram gold and platinum bars under melt on whatnot. There are some deals to be had. I’ll leave that venue to the pros, for selling. I’ll stick with eBay. As a buyer, well it’s easy pickings, sometimes.

No one said your opinion on VB wasn't valid because you didn't buy it.

I'm struggling here with a conundrum. I DON'T want to buy the New York Times because I don't think it is worth the money. But since I'm not buying the NYT, I'm not allowed to have an opinion. That means I can't have the opinion that it is not worth the money. So, Great Oracle, does that mean that I MUST buy the NYT?

I'm not sure I can be that specific without better pictures, but they don't look UNC. If they are just "silver", that's not "awful" but it's not really "good" either.

That's funny, I always feel like unshakable confidence is the antithesis of competence because it eliminates the possibility of growth.

The comment about “competence” included the qualifier “usually”. When I read it, I considered that perhaps emphasis was being placed on that word, as part of a facetious post. I apologize to the writer if I was mistaken.

I didnt say I had the buy of the century here.
I believe they will something decent for my grandson.
I will make sure he is well equipped with my books and resources. Ill try to mold him into a collector. Take him to some shows and make it a fun time for him.
I wish someone did that for me when I was a kid. Thank god for sports. Im kind of a large man and sports kept me out of trouble. I was good at them and when younger very strong. Lifting weights, swimming, running and playing baseball from sun up to sundown.
As an aside who's to say that silver wont take off again?
If it doesn't I still believe it was a good purchase. The box is going in the trash but the coins will be put in my safe until I pass them along.
Maybe a birthday or Christmas present for him. They already belong to him he just doesn't know it yet. I might want to wait until I can see his face light up.
    People need to chill.
    Where talking about $36!!!
I spend more on a quarter of a tank of fuel.
BTW I still believe they are unc. I have them in hand and thats my opinion.
There is PVC but I can take care of that easily. A proper dip in acetone will eliminate that. Maybe I will go over all of them with MS70. I can tell from this packaging that the set must be close to 50 years old so these coins have been sitting in these capsules for years. Maybe they are the culprit. I don't know.

If you don’t want readers to comment on the price you pay for something, you can easily avoid that by omitting such information. And based on your initial post, you were talking about $181, not $36.
Maybe I’m misconstruing your posts, but I’m under the impression that you thought you got a good deal . And that you’re disappointed some of us felt otherwise.

@Mfeld you may be right. I am disappointed. I think its a very normal reaction.
I like to be upfront so mentioning the price is okay.
I will take your advice though. In the future I may do as you have suggested. I can see where that would have avoided some of the negativity.

In the end, it's only your feelings that matter.

That said, such threads are instructive to others who stumble across them. There are people that assume that any 80 year old silver half that's "shiny" must be worth easy now than $36. This is helpful to those people.

I don’t see any that are obviously not Unc, but it’s hard to discern the surfaces properly through that old plastic. The reverse of the 43S looks abraided on the rims and high points.

If you do want better opinions, you can post new images after you open them and treat them with acetone and/or MS70, as you indicated you might do.

If I were to clean these up. Get rid of the PVC I honestly believe they would grade 62 or 63. Therefore they will remain raw. I have slabbed WLH. Its my second favorite type.
But again these are for my first born grandson.
Its really not a big deal guys.
Speak your mind it's okay. I am not insulted. After all they are just coins in the end. I wont take it personally. At least I will try not too.

I think you made a fantastic purchase, and I'd have jumped on them too at that price.
It's a nice late-date mix of these halves and now that silver's gone down, I'd expect future gains for your grandchild.

Yea the reverse of the 43S is definetly trashed. Details coin for sure.

So, as I said before, your opinion is worth exactly what we are all paying for it.

As is yours. Have a good day! :)

I never suggested otherwise, and have said repeatedly that I only post for myself, and for anyone interested in what I had to say. I actively encourage anyone annoyed by my posts to Ignore me. I don't get insulted. Not even a little.

The rest of us appreciate opinions from the both of you.

Not all of us though I have no issue with Mason.

Thanks for letting us know. Now I feel left out and bad. 🤣🤣🤣

Your second group of images is much better than the first...

Agreed. And in the interests of transparency, I will state for the record that I am not a customer of MFeld.

And, given that you are not his customer, I'm sure he will cherish your opinion when you agree with him, and dismiss it when you don't. So, as I said before, your opinion is worth exactly what we are all paying for it. But thanks for sharing. Much appreciated, even if not valued.

You have the kind of unshakable confidence that usually comes with competence.

Yes, I do. Thanks for noticing.

I have a thought about the coins but according to NJCoin, I shouldn't say anything since I don't spend money on Whatnot.

Correct. If you are not a customer, you opinion is worth what we are paying you for it. Just like the forum seemed to think mine was with VB.

    Vault Box!!!

No one said your opinion on VB wasn't valid because you didn't buy it.

I'm struggling here with a conundrum. I DON'T want to buy the New York Times because I don't think it is worth the money. But since I'm not buying the NYTs, I'm not allowed to have an opinion. That means I can't have the opinion that it is not worth the money. So, Great Oracle, does that mean that I MUST buy the NYTs?

No, you can have any opinion you want. But, if you don't subscribe, yet feel the need to tell them that they don't pay their columnists enough, your opinion really isn't worth much, is it? If I was them I sure wouldn't care what you think.

You can absolutely think anything you want, and say anything you want. If you expect a merchant you don't patronize to care about what you think about how they run their business, however, you are likely to be very disappointed. That's all. Now post away. About the NYT, CW, anything at all.

    Fuzzy thinking and completely illogical.

You can get certified Walkers in low Unc. no problem grades on ebay for $40-$50 delivered; I'd prefer that route.
