Puckett has a bonus "card" on each package and there's a pack with Puckett also showing on top and one with Ryan showing as well.

1 Puckett full card came in a box bottom auction lot I bought along with the Cansecos I mentioned in another post.
The surface looked flawless and there are no PSA10s, so I thought I'd handcut it out and see what happens.
Mine seemed as good or better than the 9s I've seen, so dummy me thought, if not a 10, at least maybe I'll get the 9.
    Nope.

    _NICE JOB! _

    You're corners are superb!

I am quite experienced with hand cutting cards like this. Ironically, I just cut one of these about 10 minutes ago. I saw that there are no 10's as well.

Mine looks similar except for a surface flaw that I didn't notice in the lower right border. Mine is also a bit off center to the right and maybe a bit low. I won't be subbing mine, but I will have some more to cut later.

Yours should be a 10 and with the new strict grading, no lower than a 9. Looks like you could have shaved a bit more off of the left border, card is very tight in holder. I'll keep that in mind when chopping mine up. :D

In looking a little closer, do you think the minor "chipping" on bottom killed the grade?

I use the Zirconium Nitride coated blades. Expensive, but they are REALLY sharp!

I originally cut outside the border, like I have with Hostess cards to leave full dashed lines, but the thin yellow framing around the card looked weird so I went back and trimmed it to size. I suppose I could have gone back and tried to trim the left side, but the corners were coming out great and it measured correctly, and I didn't want to risk yet another sliver cut and undersizing it and get the dreaded Authentic grade. I had just the 1 Puckett to work with. The bottom edge didn't cut as cleanly as the others. A 10 became more of a longshot, but not getting the 9 was pretty disappointing.

A 9 on your card would have been fair, but it just looks like 10's have to be perfect. This was never the case.

Here's my next Puckett. Just cut it this morning . Print dot on shoulder will keep it from a 10 holder. Probably an 8. I took a little more off the left edge and the card is still slightly wider than the other cards from the pack.

I have a few more coming in the mail. Going to try to get that 10!

Yours has print line on the hat too, and other specks throughout. (maybe from the scanner)
I can see yellow on the right border which would explain why it's still wide, and even a little yellow top and bottom.

    @Chicago1976

Nice additions. I have nearly completed a 1953 set. What is interesting about the set is that both Dutch Leonard and Bobo Nelson are featured at the end of their career. Leonard had great seasons with Washington in 1939 and 1945. Newsom was a star of the Tigers pitching staff with great performance in the 1940 World Series.

I collect Puckett and thought the price on this was too good to pass up. Partial case with 32 packs.

Puckett has a bonus "card" on each package and there's a pack with Puckett also showing on top and one with Ryan showing as well.

Any unopened with Ryan showing is a good investment and I don't know how rare these Blister packs are, assuming they aren't that common?

Cool! Those blister packs were great fun as kids. I will warn you, they are incredibly delicate now. Depending on how they have been stored, the glue isn't that strong and the "blister" can easily separate from the cardboard backing. You probably don't want to handle them too much or put too much stress on the blister. Neat find!

Agree with Tulsaboy on this one. I opened a 1990 blister case where the blister part was separated from the backing on most packs.

I haven't seen too many 1988 blister packs. I think the wax and cello and rack were way more common in 1988. If you rip, I hope you find all of those SP's in the 600s!

I never tire of seeing this card. It's a beauty and a PSA 10 all day (in my opinion). Plus, I imagine that this is probably the most rare 1988 Donruss card, considering the fact that it is only found on the back of some (not all) of the blister packs, and the blister packs were not as common as the wax/rack/cello packs that year.

Thanx Tim - BTW - when they call a Mantle "premium photo" - who offered it?

You have an incredible Mantle collection buddy. 👍
