💩
There could be as many as 100,000 spectators in some stadiums around the world watching a match. In fact, millions more watching on TV. You're going to tell me that after all the hype and world interest in these games, that it could end in the tie??? No freakin' way!! In America, there are winners and losers...Full stop!! There are no points for a tie in America!
America was built on winners and losers. The sad part is, the rest of the world accepts a tie!!.. Not us Americans. You have an Un-American sport my foreign friends! Maybe that's why the sport hasn't been very popular here over the years.
In addition to that, there is no countdown clock for minutes added at the end of the game that everyone can view!
The head referee is the sole and official timekeeper???... That's BS!! While the stadium scoreboard clock runs continuously, the referee uses a stopwatch to track all time lost to substitutions, injuries, and goal celebrations... Again, this is BS!! The stadium fans, the players and the world for that matter, should see this time countdown, not one person!! Again, it's un-American!
Any questions??
@USSID18
ties only apply to group play. we're out of that now. there will be a victor in every game played from here on out.
I understand all that but you get my point here.
Just your luck we no longer have a House committee on Un American activities.
The NFL and NHL both give points for ties

I know and I don't agree with that either.
If the thesis is that most American's are too stupid to interpret a trinary system, I agree.
fat and stupid I mean.
I dont like ties either, but they have to happen in Soccer when you have guys getting gassed in a 0-0 tie and the game would take days to complete. Other leagues do it too and I would rather have a tie than the nonsense of changing overtime rules like MLB. Im fine with soccer going to shootouts, theres only so many subs allowed and so many guys on the team running around. The real problem with soccer is the diving and guys acting like they just got sniped and are dying then running full speed seconds later

Try to imagine an NFL game ending in a 0-0 tie.

Soccer sucks.
This guy.
Exactly! 👍
It has happened over 70 times in the NFL . It just hasnt happened in our life time.
Fire AJ Preller
Er, no. I don't....................
I know it is hard to understand how the game is played, the nuances, and skill, and the challenges for some. For those of us with a sophisticated sports acumen, we get it and enjoy the beauty of the game of football. To each their own. The greatest sport is of course professional bicycling and Le Tour will begin in Barcelona on July 4th. Two Americans are going to play an important role in this race, that has importance across the wide world.

Different sport, different perspective. So Keats, you are saying that only one sport can be imagined?
herculean effort by our boys the last ~40 mins
-1 on the field, +1 on the scoreboard

that's the very good news. news of the nightmarish variety is being without Balogun against Belgium
Think about it. It'll come to you.
Bring on the Belgiumaniacs!
Are all the U.S. players actually born in the U.S.A.?....
....I didn't think so!
I am thinking you will have to clarify, explain it to me as it is not coming to me. Thanks in advance.
idk where the OP is coming from with his initial take, but that game and all that it encompassed was the antithesis of un-American
Those sports are right up there with watching paint dry.
I watched a professional bike race make its way through a rural town in Germany some 25 years ago while on tour with my family. It just happened to pass while we were on our way to breakfast. Dozens of racers and hundreds of people in the street cheering for them, going nuts. I guess it depends on where you go to witness the passion for sports. What I saw back then was pretty cool.
Theres a big difference between being their live watching a part for a small part like the 16th hole on waste management in golf and sitting on the couch and watching the whole thing. I like playing golf I never want to watch an entire thing. Maybe you leave either on as background noise doing something else

You sound like someone who has never watched paint dry. When the transition from wet to dry occurs. Wow. Full stop. Like magic in a bottle.
This is exactly why I thought Greg Norman must have won 50 major championships.
i still haven't been able to process the red card to Balogun. soccer is chock-full of contested balls for at least 90+ minutes. guys get "hurt" all the time, but often times they legit get injured as a result of bodies flying around the pitch. if it's the latter and it's intentional, roja all day. if it's not and an examination of the play deems that it's warranted, amarilla. but to kick a guy out of a game because he simultaneously went up for a ball with a member of the opposition and unintentionally landed on the guy's ankle with his spikes...........then prevent him from playing the following week as well in the most crucial set of circumstances..........while all along rejecting an appeal attempt to boot...........makes me question if this is real life. nothing defies common sense quite like that. absolutely absurd and ludicrous, all of it.
it was a trash card, but maybe this is what we need to do something special.
Ha! You haven’t lived until you’ve been totally entranced while watching a stink beetle survive the crossing of all lanes of a remote desert highway. 😉
Its already been revealed that was likely the worst red card in World Cup history. Every announcer, analyst, former players have all basically called it the worst call theyve seen. Up until the last couple minutes every call went against the USA mean while they were getting mugged no cards and half the time no foul. Its not a secret that soccer is the most corrupt sport in the world and Fifa doesnt want to see USA win it.
Its already been revealed that VAR didnt even follow protocol. They used slow motion and still shots which they are not allowed to do. Theres nothing the USA team can do to appeal it. They were likely looking for a reason to justify hurting the team knowing that appeals dont exist

Northwestern-Illinois played to a 0-0 tie in 1978 which was in my lifetime.
Edited to add… Oregon-Oregon State played to a 0-0 tie in 1983. Horrible weather conditions contributed to miserable field conditions.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
There's been a lot of talk about the right use of VAR and I've heard the incorrect statement that VAR cannot be used for still images or slow-motion video. That's not really true.
It should not have been a red card. It should have been a yellow card. However they judged it they did not get the intensity or intention correct.
Was that the worst red card in the history of the World Cup? For Team USA... yes but overall no. No excuses though - go beat Belgium now. If USA can play from ahead that neutralizes Doku. DeBruyne looked hurt and Lukaku isn't ready for a full 90 yet. I think team USA is the favorite in this matchup regardless the 5-2 showing earlier this year.
You should see the corn growing here!
am i the only one who feels like they are going crazy watching these games? it took me a couple of days inside a mental institution to move past what happened with Balogun, and now this.
Croatia scored an unbelievable goal in extra time yesterday against Portugal to tie the game. that is, until FIFA determined that the ball touched a Croatian player (in blue), which in turn created an offsides infraction (and thus disallowed an incredibly clutch goal).
how did they determine this, you may ask? wait for it.......wait for it.......wait for it......wait for it......wait for it.......wait for it......apparently there is a microchip embedded inside the effing ball that supposedly detects even the slightest contact.
is FIFA a sports governing body or a traveling comedy show?
it's as if they stop at nothing to create their own agenda. 1000% innocuous play that results in a Bosnian player getting injured? let's royally screw the Americans over by ejecting their best player, leave them short-handed for over half an hour, prevent him from playing in the next game as well, then handing him 25 life sentences in a supermax.
and now, because we want more Ronaldo, we're going to bypass anyone's set of God-given eyes and allow a noncommunicative ball to tell Croatia the worst possible news.
we have blown past the point of everyone's intelligence being insulted

To answer your question. Yes. FIFA is a traveling clown show. If clowns dished out corruption instead of happiness… or fear if that’s how it is for anyone.
for 4 years those guys pour their hearts and souls into hopefully experiencing an opportunity of a lifetime on the world's biggest stage
you make it, then that happens
if i had been the Croatian coach and had seen that replay, there would be a picture of me next to 'berserk' in the dictionary
