Hairline cracks on newer pcgs holders

In the last 6 months I have received coins from various auction houses that have these cracks on the holder. Only new pcgs holders. Anyone else having this problem?

    Yes when the palladium eagles came out in 2017 and 2018, the PCGS slabs were cracking just like that due to the diameter/thickness of the coin. PCGS was allowing coins to go back in as a mechanical error to get reholdered for free.

    I have only had 3 in the last 6 months. One auction house had it reslabed, the other 2 were just returned for credit. What I am wondering is have anyone else have this problem if so I hope pcgs has taken steps to fix this issue.

    Yes, unfortunately, it has been / was an issue going back maybe 5/6 years, where some have multiple hairline cracks, usually in a similar fashion to the 12 o'clock area in your images. I don't know if it has been resolved yet as I still see it occasionally, but haven't kept track of the Cert #'s to see if it affects the most current

    I have not had any PCGS holders with those cracks, that I can recall, but I do have at least one ANACS slab that has similar cracking.

    There is no such thing as a quick call to customer service.
    However, with this type of issue I would keep trying. I also think PCGS should pick up the tab for shipping.
    Not sure of their process for this. It has not happened to me yet.

    Wondered about this. One of my gold Buffaloes developed a large crack inside the holder a few years ago……and it’s always been in a case……..Just didn’t want to spend the money to get it reholdered. Would be nice if they could do it at the upcoming Orlando show…..

    Given the cost of having coins graded at PCGS, I don't think anyone has opted for cheap.

    When did any of us say we wanted anything other than what was advertised? I don’t think I checked off the “cheap” checkbox with any of these orders….and since they all were processed and completed at different speeds (all walkthrough tier but different services- regrade, recon, cross), they all came back separately with priority overnight shipping. I had requested priority overnight, but because two of the orders were consolidated in one box on the way there.

    Total of 11 coins, 5 of which could have been submitted on express but I had opted to use walkthrough since I wanted them back as fast as possible…. Which turned out to be just shy of a month.

    Cherry on top, the valuable of the three shipments they ship out on a Friday, so while I have the pleasure of PAYING for overnight service, It’s a waste, and very unprofessional of PCGS so send an overnight package on Friday, of which the industry standard is to never do that as the big insurers consider it an exclusion.

    All in all, about $1700 in grading fees and about $500 in shipping, for a total of $2200 for 11 coins to be graded. But by golly, I imagine someone was able to find a manufacturer who would make the slab shells for 50c cheaper, so who am I to expect a holder that doesn’t arrive like a shattered windshield… when I only paid $200 a coin. If only there was a way that cost could be baked into the rest of the grading, handling, and packing fees, so they wouldn’t have to deal with us cheapskates complaining because our inventory is unsalable….

    @PeakRarities You appear pretty angry by all of this.
    Perhaps once you take a deep breath and settle down a conversation may then continue.
    I'd love to read strategy other than emotion.

    @RedRocket not emotion, just dollars and cents (but not sense). Sure, it’s one thing to be frustrated when you’re a hobbyist but when you’re trying to run a business and pay the bills, I think it’s justified to be upset or even angry at a company that perpetually sets you back and prevents you from doing so. I don’t claim to speak for everyone, so for those that want to let it roll off their back that’s fine by me. I’ll be the squeaky wheel and perhaps someone or something can make a change that benefits us all.
