    Got these two today.

There's a 1979 Dusty Baker in PSA 9 condition on EBAY right now. Only 20 PSA 9's and 0 tens. Its one of the hardest hall of fame/future hall of fame cards in the 70's to get in high grade (mint and gem mint). It would look great next to these two Baker's.

The ones I showed were all that were in the binder. Thanks for the advice!

just back from PSA...extremely disappointed, thought this was a lock 9, with a good shot at a 10. Compare to any 9 (or 10) pictured on VCP. Oh well...

    That is a beautiful Payton.

I'm with you. That should be a 10 all day (without seeing the back). Wonderful card.

Looking at PSAs pics of the card, there is a line (scratch?) on the card (or case) on Payton's face?

If the line is on the case, the top edge, top right corner, and print smudge on the back probably prevents a 10, but a 9 is within reason. There are certainly worse 9s, and 10s for that matter, out there.

PSA grading has become ridiculous. My "lock" 9s got 5s, 6s, and 7s. To this day, I don't see how.

Just back from PSA today!!! I live in Milwaukee and have been looking for this ticket for years. I couldnt go because my parents felt we "had to" drive to my relatives in Michigan this night to beat Thanksgiving traffic. Billie Joe Armstrong mooned the crowd and was arrested after the show. It's a great addition to the rest of my Wisconsin based tix.

I was at that concert. Love it.

Wow Doug - the Maz looks great for a Vg+; great group of cards.

I've noticed that post-COVID 52Ts are really pricey.

The Maz was the one that stood out as far as a lower grade. I had it down as a possible 5 before sending it out. I knew Mays catch and Kaline AS would be in the 7-8 range. Lots of 4's LOL. And yes '52's prices are up there.

Boom, what a card. Long live inconsistency in grading!

  • bgrbgr Posts: 4,359 ✭✭✭✭✭

having the video of your card being pulled would be pretty neat. If you're a little computer savvy there's a way to transcribe which is pretty simple. If you had the links to their 1975 rips I would even do it for you.

Next to the 76 I always thought the 71 photo of Bench was so cool. Just feels like the perfect baseball photo.

Picked this one up in Nashville for Keith Jr for his collection. He had been hunting a centered Ryan rookie and not having any luck, and worked out a deal on a GOAT card for him to put back for a while in his collection. Don’t tell mom! 😉

Ya did great on overall presentation and centering with this one Keith - Jr will be very happy buddy!

Thank you and it was his deal with his $$. He pulled a Cooper Flagg gold on on Christmas am, and it got a PSA 10 and he sold it for pretty good $. That card basically paid for 80-90% of the Jordan rookie. To say he is pumped is an understatement 😉 Hope you are doing well Mike 👍

Nothing high grade or rare, but a few cards that benefited (me) from challenging grading standards

Both PSA and SGC are so hard on that 1980 OPC Ryan! Yeah, centering on the back in off, but yours is a good example of "probably better" than the grade given based on the front and overall eye appeal!

Always enjoy the 1991-93 auto chase stuff. I know the odds are 1 in a billion so it’s nice to know this box will always have a chance. And a plus that it’s not a redemption pull or these things would be worth what a buck?

Puckett had one of the all-time best batting stance and swing. Those photos are always cool.

I collect Puckett and thought the price on this was too good to pass up. Partial case with 32 packs.

Puckett has a bonus "card" on each package and there's a pack with Puckett also showing on top and one with Ryan showing as well.

Any unopened with Ryan showing is a good investment and I don't know how rare these Blister packs are, assuming they aren't that common?

Cool! Those blister packs were great fun as kids. I will warn you, they are incredibly delicate now. Depending on how they have been stored, the glue isn't that strong and the "blister" can easily separate from the cardboard backing. You probably don't want to handle them too much or put too much stress on the blister. Neat find!

1 Puckett full card came in a box bottom auction lot I bought along with the Cansecos I mentioned in another post.
The surface looked flawless and there are no PSA10s, so I thought I'd handcut it out and see what happens.
Mine seemed as good or better than the 9s I've seen, so dummy me thought, if not a 10, at least maybe I'll get the 9.
    Nope.

    _NICE JOB! _

    You're corners are superb!

I am quite experienced with hand cutting cards like this. Ironically, I just cut one of these about 10 minutes ago. I saw that there are no 10's as well.

Mine looks similar except for a surface flaw that I didn't notice in the lower right border. Mine is also a bit off center to the right and maybe a bit low. I won't be subbing mine, but I will have some more to cut later.

Yours should be a 10 and with the new strict grading, no lower than a 9. Looks like you could have shaved a bit more off of the left border, card is very tight in holder. I'll keep that in mind when chopping mine up. :D

In looking a little closer, do you think the minor "chipping" on bottom killed the grade?

I use the Zirconium Nitride coated blades. Expensive, but they are REALLY sharp!
