These medals were struck to fund Colorado's participation at the 1933-34 Century of Progress Expo in Chicago. The lines that appear to be scratches are actually die polish lines.
Among the many odd and curious offerings sold by the Franklin Mint in the 1970's was a set of sterling silver bars depicting the logos of notable U.S. banks. I worked at United Bank of Denver in the late 1970's, and later at a local coin shop, including a period that covered the gold and silver boom of 1979-80. There were long lines of people trying to sell anything that looked like it could be gold or silver. Anything unmarked had to be tested. There were either 50 or 100 of these bars in a complete set that came across the counter, and I salvaged the one for my former employer.
