These medals were struck to fund Colorado's participation at the 1933-34 Century of Progress Expo in Chicago. The lines that appear to be scratches are actually die polish lines.
Among the many odd and curious offerings sold by the Franklin Mint in the 1970's was a set of sterling silver bars depicting the logos of notable U.S. banks. I worked at United Bank of Denver in the late 1970's, and later at a local coin shop, including a period that covered the gold and silver boom of 1979-80. There were long lines of people trying to sell anything that looked like it could be gold or silver. Anything unmarked had to be tested. There were either 50 or 100 of these bars in a complete set that came across the counter, and I salvaged the one for my former employer.

Released on August 28, 2006, this is the 39th coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the fourth released in 2006. North Dakota, admitted in the Union on Novermber 2, 1889, themed the coin, Badlands with Bison. It highlights a pair of grazing American bison in the foreground, a sunset view of the rugged buttes and canyons that symbolize the State’s Badlands region.
Characteristics
The obverse (heads) design features the familiar image of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter since 1932.
The reverse (tails) design features an image of bison grazing at sunset in the rugged North Dakota Badlands.
The 2016 Theodore Roosevelt National Park Quarter is the 34th coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
The colorful Little Missouri River Badlands provides the dramatic scenic backdrop to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which memorializes the 26th President for his enduring contributions to the conservation of our nation’s resources. An abundance of native grasses provides sustenance for prairie dogs and large grazing animals while diverse habitats attract a great number of birds. Wildlife viewing is one of the most popular activities in the park. It was established as a national site in 1946.
Characteristics
The obverse (heads) design features the familiar image of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter since 1932. It has been restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original.
The reverse (tails) depicts a young Theodore Roosevelt on horseback surveying the terrain near the Little Missouri River. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

Released on Novermber 6, 2006, this is the 40th coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the fifth released in 2006. South Dakota, admitted in the Union on November 2, 1889, themed the coin, Mount Rushmore and Pheasant. Images are the State bird, the Chinese ring-necked pheasant in flight above the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, a sculpture of four American Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The image is bordered by heads of wheat.
Characteristics
The obverse (heads) design features the familiar image of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter since 1932.

The 2013 Mount Rushmore National Memorial Quarter is the 20th coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is the fifth of 2013 and the 20th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. Over the decades, Mount Rushmore has grown in fame as a symbol of America – a symbol of freedom and hope for people from all cultures and backgrounds. The sculpture, located in the scenic Black Hills of South Dakota, features the heads of former Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. It was first established as a national site March 3, 1925 (43 Stat. 1214).
Characteristics
The obverse (heads) design features the familiar image of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter since 1932. It has been restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original.
The reverse (tails) depicts photos of men who are adding the final details to Thomas Jefferson's face. Mount Rushmore was featured on three 1991 Mount Rushmore Golden Anniversary Commemorative Coins and on the 2006 South Dakota quarter issued under the 50 State Quarters Program. This new design is distinctly different and offers a unique and educational perspective on how Mount Rushmore was created and sculpted. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
