Is this ring caused at mint? It’s the exact curvature of a penny.

    I am aware of the common errors. They are straight forward so I don’t feel the need to ask about known errors. The smug know it all attitude some people have presented was not warranted. I asked simple questions. Why comment on the

    It should not surprise you that others know more than you when you know nothing about mint errors. How do I know you know nothing, just reading your posts tells it all. Your arrogance is your downfall.

    This is simply untrue and the exact opposite of the way you should be thinking. There are only a handful of very specific things that can happen in a Mint press. Learn those rather than trying to invent ways for other things to happen.

    99.999999% of all coin anomalies are damage. Clips, cuds, did cracks, double strikes, etc are all known and described. There are very good reference books and internet sites. You can learn those. Everything else is damage.

    All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

    I will give you a different answer than you've received from other people:

    You are correct that weird things can happen in stamping machinery. I am also fairly confident that the marks on this coin occurred in stamping machinery.

    However, NONE OF THAT IS RELEVENT.

    When talking about errors, the only question that matters is whether the appearance of the coin happened at the mint. In fact, it's totally possible for coins to be damaged even before leaving the mint, so the real question is whether the appearance of the coin happened PRIOR TO or DURING THE STRIKE.

    Anything that might possibly have happened after the dies stopped moving towards each other is damage rather than an error.

    You know what else has the exact curvature of a penny? Another penny.

    Your coin was damaged when another coin was stacked on top of it and then both coins were hit very hard. Some sort of stamping machinery was involved, even if only some guy with a hammer. There is no possibility that this was damaged PRIOR TO or DURING THEORIGINAL STRIKE.

    This was laying on the ground and another penny was laying on top of it when a truck ran them over. Something to that effect. Completely testable theory (you may need a large truck).
