Mine just got delivered and it’s fantastic. Love the set.
Question- mine came with a card signed by “Paul Hollis #41”. Is that significant or did everyone get one? Either way it’s a nice touch to show he took some interest in the collection.

Not everyone is getting those. My set did NOT come with that.

No kidding. I'm actually shocked, given how many reports there have been.

Same here! I searched the box over again due to the number of reports I was seeing as well. You might remember that my purchase was a few thousand before the "backorder doom loop", but I chose next day delivery, so perhaps it was the first "???" number of orders that got the signed cards????

@mbr33 it was on the back of a US Mint card with the semi q coins pictured. I actually missed it until I was putting everything back in the box

I searched every inch of that box. Shredded the cardboard packing box looking to be sure I didn't miss it. Nada. Since nobody at the Mint will tell us, we will figure its rarity out on our own. LOL!

Is the Hollis note/signature printed, or written with a pen/sharpie onto the card? You should be able to tell.

I'm guessing printed. I'm also guessing that the COA is printed with Acting Director McNally's signature on it.

    Let us know, thanks.

They are all #41, because they are all exactly the same, likely written by an auto pen. And #41 refers to Mr. Hollis being the 41st Mint Director. Nothing more.

Doesn’t look like an auto pen to me as the signatures and writing are different. I read somewhere (Numismatic News maybe?) that one in every few hundred would have the signed card…. A nice bonus…. BTW…this isn’t mine, saw it posted somewhere else….

Thank you @mbr33. Mine is still processing, not sure if I should be panicking yet. I was torn, I like that the reverse doesn't have the Au 24kt 1/10th oz from the 2016, but I'm also not a fan of the 250 privy lol. I think the SQC gold along with the 3 Enduring Liberty versions will make a nice set. I would like to add a really nice original 1916 Mercury to the set.

At first I didn’t even see the privy….its a small coin and after a long day staring at computer screens it’s a little tough to see details on the dime. I did check it out in detail with the magnifier and I certainly agree with you that the Au 24 kt on the reverse is just clutter.
Good luck on assembling that set!

The Mint's contracted warehouse appears to be experiencing significant logistical challenges, specifically regarding simple product organization and shipping preparation.

In other words, whatever logistical contractor the Mint uses - should NOT be involved with anything logistical. The Mint needs to re-evaluate this contractor's logistical capabilities.

I get items from Ali Express prepared and shipped faster from China than anything coming out of Dallas.

I would love to show you a picture. Unfortunately, the package is currently participating in what appears to be a government-sponsored relay race.

First, the U.S. Mint and its contracted logistics company in Dallas take their turn. Then they hand the baton to the U.S. Postal Service—an organization that, in a competitive marketplace, would have been voted off the island years ago if not for taxpayer-funded resurrections.

So for now, the photo remains trapped somewhere in the bureaucratic obstacle course.

Sheeesh, I would say not even 10 seconds! I tried to backorder one, but they were gone in a flash. The ATS when they popped up was at least 241, so there must be a bot or API that allows the big guys to order quickly (and isn't it a limit of 99 per order?). So was it one Bot/API, or multiple dealers buying at the max per order?

A bulk purchaser can purchase more than 99 in one order. It could just as easily have been 241 individuals. If there are 1000 people or more looking, first 241 win. You could also buy 99 at once, so you only need 3 individuals who want multiples.

If your resell it. People might feel it hasn't been picked over. On the other hand, it could also be a piece of garbage.

It won't matter if the price drops go bullion in the future. It's also hard to admire a cardboard box.

Dealers must see long-term value here if they are chasing all the available inventory for a possible early September delivery. They're currently not setting the world on fire in the secondary market, but that could be temporary after desperation passes. Alternatively, @jmlanzaf is probably correct that there's still a few hundred people checking at 7:30 everyday who may still have it in their carts from prior days and they just beat you to it.

It's hard to say. Maybe some Big Guy is going to run a promo on these. The secondary market is pretty dead. Mine haven't shipped and I've toyed with canceling. I only want the silver anyway and I'm patient. If it takes a year or more to be "reasonable", I'm in no hurry.

I guess it's possible there were others faster than me (I have done this many times, but it might be possible).
Here's how it went down this morning

    I had 2 tabs open
    Tab-1 was the actual item
Tab-2 was the ATS page ready for a refresh

The RED-BUTTON (when available and able to add to the cart) goes active for me at exactly 7:30 and 15 seconds based on the clock with the seconds sweephand on my iPhone.

At the 7:30 and 15-seconds mark I hit the refresh tab on TAB-2 (ATS Page)
Then went to TAB-1 hit refresh and was able to add 1 to my cart
Hit next to checkout and got the message (ITEMS IN YOUR CART ARE NOT AVAILABLE...)
This happened in less than ~5 seconds

I then went to the ATS Tab to see how many were available today, and it said 241

Yes, it is possible there are hundreds of people faster than me (and faster than 5 seconds).
I'm thinking it's some BOT/API or a MACRO or computer farm of thousands of people that allows the big guys to get the order(s) placed that fast...

Screenshot of the ATS Number for today

The US Postal Service and US Mint contracted shippers disagrees... They keep looking at and admiring my cardboard box in their possession and won't send me the damn box for me to admire!

I wanted it as part of an attempt to put the whole set together this year. Will see how far I get on that Summer project. I've been contending that the Mint's price increases and the early-year discovery by the Mint that they can just back-order everything has most likely led to the quiet secondary. They've taken over the job of flipper and secondary sales for the time being.
The silver medal in this set is much better looking in person than the images the Mint had shown us. I hope you get a fine example!

Why? The cards are not individually numbered, so they are not tied to specific coins. So what would be the reason behind them needing to arrive in sealed boxes, assuming there is any value in having them slabbed at all?

Good point. Were the FH Silver signed COAs numbered? I guess the only purpose would be to show that the note came with that particular coin, but that's probably not a particularly meaningful association to preserve.

Yes. Only 230 of the 1794 with the privies had hand signed COAs, and they were individually numbered to 230.

Even then, it made no sense to tie the certificate to the medal, since the number only represented the number of the certificate, not the number of the striking of the medal. But people like to engage in the fiction that the piece of paper is attached to the medal, so the TPGs required sealed boxes to slab the certificates and attach the number to the medal.

In this case, without an individual number on the certificate, there is no value whatsoever to attaching it to a specific coin and medal. It stands on its own as a collectible, since not everyone is getting one, but all the certificates are the same just like all the coins are the same, so I just don't see the rationale in requiring sealed boxes.

Doesn't mean that they won't require it. Just means it will be even more meaningless than a First Strike designation if they do.

Don't worry. After this, the buyers clubs will be out for the rest.

Doesn't mean they won't be hot and difficult to get, depending on the mintage. But it does mean we won't be competing with bots run by randos collecting credit card points and $50.

Is that +$50 or -$50? Judging by some of those ebay sales, it was pretty close!

I'm sure we will have waiting rooms, and it sounds like the 1804 is the one everybody and their cousin's BOT want.

The issue is the "sneaker" and "toy" flippers have no idea and no interest in what they are flipping. I can say for many on here ---at least we actually like some of these products; it isnt just for the flip (profit). Maybe we buy more than one and flip a few - to pay for our addiction to these mint products.
    There are worse addictions.........

  • I bought 3 of these with the intention on keeping a set and an extra medal. TBH I have no clue what I’m doing but I was hoping to make some extra money so I can get the rest of the series especially the 1804! I’m going to try and get two of those.
