die rotation
I think the coin might be cleaned
I'm going to guess that it's improperly attributed.

It’s a half dime attributed as a dime.
It says “Cleaned” on the grading label. So how would your thinking the coin might be cleaned indicate what might be wrong with the picture?

If I had to guess he was being sarcastic
The recognized die marriages for dimes are attributed with JR, not LM.

Thank you - that would explain it, even if it didn’t cause me to laugh.😉

I do like the die rotation, otherwise that coin is better off in an album.

Several folks noted the "die rotation" but I think it might just be someone behind the wheel of Photoshop doing a bit of "pixel rotation" instead. They'd have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!

Good catch!! I have not seen a 180 degree rotated capped bust half dime yet. Wish this was the first!

Me too, Chase. I honestly believe that the purveyor thought they were doing a courtesy, putting the "NGC" and the coin facing up. But an error hunter might have gotten pretty interested in this coin's image (and may not have noticed the flip-flop at first).

10 C… 5C…. Close enough. Grading is hard, but all is not lost… the date is correct.

Good catch @Bikergeek
Sharp eye! Are there actual rotated dies known in the series?
There are some (I can't right now remember which years/marriages) but none that I know of that are as extreme as 180 degrees... and they are consistent (as far as I know) - meaning that all of the examples of that particular marriage (one obverse to one reverse) have the same rotation. That is, as far as I know - and it's an interesting thought to pursue, whether the rotations changed as mint employees noticed and corrected the rotation in the press. I think I'm going to poke around and see! It may not yield any new die remarriages but it might help pinpoint emission order.
This is called "going down the rabbit hole..." :-)

@Bikergeek it sounds like an interesting project. For bust quarters, some die varieties have known rotated dies but I believe Ive also seen some with dies that were obviously loose and causing rotations at random.
