Josh Gordon was an unbelievable talent. Early in his career he showed enough to set two NFL records that are quite impressive. Once he was suspended the first time things were essentially over for him.
Justin Blackmon was another potential top tier talent destroyed by substance abuse, he was on the same talent level as Gordon
I do, I think that kid would have been fine had he played now since the NFL softened it's stance on Marijuana
I think he got suspended for a year for having one drink on an airplane while on the substance abuse program? It was definately something completely petty as well as stupid.
There is no comparison with Gordon to Rice, Rice is a thug where Gordon just wanted to get high.
I always felt bad for him
He failed an alcohol test after a private flight that he got drunk on. Because of his previous DUI and failed drug tests he was subject to the highest level of monitoring.
He failed drug tests for every reason possible. Alcohol, making agents, drugs, and PEDs. Ultimately the failed PED tests ended up getting him banned from the league but I doubt anyone really wanted him at that point anyways

Fair enough, his crimes were victimless though, he only hurt himself as far as I know, which we can't say about Rice

The DUI couild have been really bad and he got lucky with that that he got pulled over for speeding and not an ac accident. But yea I dont really care if guys smoke weed specifically if theyre using that over some of the nasty pain killers teams hand out like candy.
Problem with Gordon was he was still using the pain killers and making purple drink and his drugs werent just limited to weed. He would have ended up getting in trouble now even with the weed being legal by the NFL

Beautiful, so they essentially wasted a first round pick lol
When do you deal with a mistake? Now
Sure but I'd do more than take a flyer on Murray
They need to dismantle the culture of never being satisfied with a very good QB
Get rid of the GM and anyone else involved in their inadequate ability to manage their QB situation
I like Minnesota and would like to see them get over the hump but they just shoot themselves in the foot quite a bit
I think I said at the time that pick will get someone fired one day for it.
To be fair to the Vikings though there wasnt really anything they could do more than Murray this year. The QB class was just bad and would have been the same situation if they tried to force something. Next years class is stacked especially if everyone comes out.

Maybe the Vikings are going to stop trying to rush an inexperienced rookie and actually try to develop a long term solution.

Theyve had issues for sure with picks which they deserve blame for, but McCarthy didnt start day one.
A lot of teams are starting high first round picks at QB day 1. Burrow, Herbert, Maye, Daniels, Dart, Peyton, Elway, Nix Stroud, RG3, Wilson, Dak, Dalton, Lawerence to name a few. A couple next year will likely start immediately as well. Its more common now but all those guys were studs in college. Even Murray started day one. The McCarthy issue is a McCarthy problem more than a Vikings problem other than selecting him.
Culpepper only sat one year as well but was their last good QB pick. They generally dont use first rounders on them but are expected to next year.
I do like the Murray singing and their chance at the playoffs with him. I dont like tanking especially for a win now team but if there was a year to have a bad year considering their salary situation this would be a good one to have it

they should matter. take a deep breath and dig into the deets. the Browns did very well, imo. and from everything i've read thus far, others feel similarly. they were going nowhere fast with Myles. they need lots of help. so why not unload him for a defensive rookie of the year who is a rising star, a '27 1st-rounder, a '28 2nd-rounder, a '29 3rd-rounder, along with cap savings of 8.14 mil in '26 and 2.8 mil in '27?
