Thanks Johnny… speaking of quarters, I recently had my first silver quarter surface find by a sidewalk along a street curb in an older suburb neighborhood. My only other find like this was a Merc dime @ 1 1/2yrs ago. The sterling silver ring is quite small & petite… missing its center stone. Several wheaties also recovered, the earliest being a pair from 1944.

Quick hunt following a trip out of state over the last week. Had to make it brief due to pending Mother’s Day brunch… 1933 permission that has paid off thus far. A few wheaties and these…

I thought this one was just another clad quarter… with exception of the silvery rim. Had me fooled for a few moments… Standing Lib.
Took some roll call shots of the SLQ to show just how caked w/dirt and dark coloration it is…

Looks like a Type I, suspect it will have no date based on the reverse wear.

Final muster, and the SLQ indeed looks like a Type I, with just a hint of the “7” in the date still discernible. The number of wheaties turned out to be pretty decent, with several coming in from the roaring ‘20’s.

Today provided a pair of firsts for me as I returned to hunt the 1933 permission that I started on last week. Taking the 800 out mid-morning, the 1st “first” was finding a 2nd Standing Lib quarter in back-to-back hunts…
The 2nd “first” was finding my first spill of more than 2 silvers together… the 800 was pinging on multiple targets bouncing from 24 to 33 in @ a 1+ foot radius. The first target I recovered was a nickel and wheatie. Upon clearing the dirt from the reverse, that large “P” popped out. Silver WWII nickels ring up like a copper cent 25-26, unlike a regular CN nickel, which only rings up @ 11-12 on the 800.
I then ran the 800 over the hole again, I cleared more dirt from just inside the wall, causing a Rosie to drop out…
Another swing just outside the hole, and 800 was screaming… another scoop of dirt and a Washie with another Rosie rolled out…
Yet another swing, and still more pings @ 27-28… another scoop out of the side and a Merc reveals itself.
Finally, a short swing just a few inches away, and another 27-28 on the 800…

Final muster.
One can see where the 1948 Rosie”s obverse rested against the Washie’s reverse for many years. The latest date of the group is 1954, yet that dime shows a decent amount of wear, so it’s hard to tell if the group, with the exception of the dateless SLQ, was all dropped together at least several years after ‘54, or at different times within a very small area.

ANSWER: I’ll have to get back on this one as it’ll take some time (and a lot of math) to come up with a total.
2. Have you found any 40% silver halves?
ANSWER: Yes… a 1966 JFK in Jun ‘24, a 1965 in Dec ‘24, and a 1967 JFK half in May 2025.
3. What is the oldest (date) 90% silver coin you have found?
ANSWER: US: 1841-O Dime / Spain/Colonial: 1783 1 Reale (Mexico mint)
4. What denominations of US silver coinage have you found (trime, half dime, silver war nickel, dime, 20 cent piece, quarter, half dollar and dollar)?
ANSWER: Silver WWII Nickels, Dimes, Quarters & Half Dollars… still looking for a Morgan or Peace $1
5. Of the denominations of US silver coinage you have found, what series have you found (i.e. barber dime, mercury dime, FDR dime)?
ANSWER: Seated dimes, Barber Qtrs & Dimes, Walking Liberty, Franklin & JFK Halves, Standing Lib & Washington Qtrs, and Mercury & Rosie dimes.
6. What non US coins have you found, if any?
ANSWER: Silver-wise: the 1783 Spanish 1 Reale, British 1916 three-pence and 1912 & 1926 six-pence coins, a 1935 Saudi 1/4 Riyal, plus a number of silver Canadian dimes & a 1961 quarter.
7. Have you found any US gold coins?
ANSWER: Not yet. ;-)… still working on it.

This Washie was in a spill of 2 wheaties, 1 Memorial cent and a Jeffy nickel. Took me by surprise as the group was ringing up like the usual Lincoln.

I’ve been very fortunate the last few times I went out to have some really good days. April was a pretty good month also, while March had more “dry” spells.

Had to split what would’ve been one hunt into two this weekend. I started out early Saturday morning, but after only 1 1/2 hrs into it, the wife called me back home to help her out of a minor emergency - car battery was dead. Instead of going back out afterwards, I waited until this morning to start up again. By @ 9am, I was wishing I’d gone back yesterday instead of being out today, since the temps and especially the humidity were already noticeably higher. Nonetheless, it was a productive pair of days with 3 sterling rings and a Merc on day #1, and a trio of Washies this morning.

Final muster from Friday and Saturday morning. The copper top left is an Indian Head cent… no way to tell the date. Earliest Lincoln is dated 1913. Unfortunately, the Barber is not a West Coast product.

Brief hunt dodging rain and heat, and then later entertaining guests over the weekend. Only one silver in the bunch, which looked like a copper cent at first, while one hole yielded six wheaties. Oldest wheatie dates 1910.

One of my better days this morning as I started early to beat the heat and nasty humidity while staying ahead of stormy weather expected to move in this afternoon. The morning brought on a “First” for me, pulling a Trifecta of silver quarters - a Barber, Standing Lib, and Washie, plus 3 dimes for a total of a “buck-five” in silver…

Been nearly a month since I last posted here. It’s been a busy time with several trips under the belt and time spent getting Jr ready for his freshman start at Penn State. I did go out detecting last week and while I didn’t find any silver with the Manticore, but I did manage to roll out a few wheaties. On the way home, I stopped at my local grocery store to pick up a few things, and while checking out, noticed a guy finishing up his coin counting at the Coinstar machine. He finished up, and had already walked away as I played cashier at the self checkout. Naturally, I slowed my roll as I walked by the Coinstar, peeked in the reject slot and saw a few coins in there. I pulled them out and initially thought it was just a clad Rosie, as it was rather dark, and two Zincolns glued/ stuck together. After giving it a good look, I realized it was a 1956-D Rosie.

First up was a Rosie… with its little silvery rim peeking out -

Went out to fish for a few hours this morning. A nice drop in temps and humidity made the morning surprisingly pleasant as opposed to a typical August day. First hit was a ring which I was unsure of its composition, so no recovery pics. The next hit was ringing at a solid 90-91 close to a sidewalk with a tight footprint, but then pinging at a 71-72 @ 6 inches away. After pulling the plug, it was sealed in a clod which upon breaking it up, fell into the hole. NOTE: It’s wheatie (71-72 pinger) neighbor is in the upper left of the pic.
The next target was pinging hi @ 92-93 just beside a bush. I love it when you pull the plug and turn it, and then find something like this peeking out… at first, I wasn’t sure what exactly it was.
A closer look… it was then that I realized I was looking at olive branches, and I knew who was holding em!
