Weekend limerick contest - let’s party

PeakRaritiesPeakRarities Posts: 4,799 ✭✭✭✭✭

It’s Friday night, let’s party with some poetry. Entries must have some connection with numismatics, but you all can take it any direction you wish.

TOP 3 entries posted by Sunday at midnight -pst will each win one ounce of silver. The winners will be chosen at my sole, yet benevolent discretion.

I’ll start-

There once was a coin harshly cleaned,
Placed under a light it would gleam.
The fields were so bright,
Scratched and bruised in plain sight,
Its value forever demeaned.

To be a sob or not not to be a sob, that is the question when it comes to coins (ok, I tried 🤢)

    When originality rules the day
Through the nose you will pay
    To acquire the right Territorial
    Approach it as if Professorial
The gold was pulled from Carolina clay.

You won’t believe what I found
In a parking lot just lying on the ground
    An error coin so rare
    It’ll make me a millionaire
Don’t laugh, my judgment is sound!

Way cool, I got this cream puff last week 🤩

I love Bust dimes both Capped and Draped
I hope that they aren't raw and dropped on the slate.
I love Seated dollars and when I find one i holler.

I did one already but then I thought of another..

While reading a book penned by Q David Bowers
I learned a fact of Revolutionary prowess
That my own small Native town
Once minted state coins that were round
Where now there’s only a field and some flowers

Thank you to all who served on this Memorial weekend!

Off to the grading coin company do my coins go
In hopes upon their return the grades are not so low
But if by chance there is cause to crack out and resubmit
There springs the hope of the grading company I hope to outwit.

    He takes in his beak
    Food enough for a week.
But I'll be darned if I know how the helican.

From the opening post “Entries must have some connection with numismatics,…”

Did you not read what Dan said?
Now your chance to win coin is quite dead
So next time you’ll know better
To heed rules to the letter
    Or not😉

I once bought a Buffalo Nickel and the price of that nickel kinda got me in a pickle . I got it graded then that price I paid faded and was happy and elated.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Don’t you see what Rocket did?
Knowing Dan won’t answer his bid
    He’s trying to mock us
    In this nerdy caucus
Posting a poem he learned as a kid

A canner, exceedingly canny, one morning remarked to his granny, "A canner can can Anything that he can; But a canner can't can a can, can he?"

There was a fellow named Ren,
    Entered said contest at end,
    Had sadly stayed home,
    To write this old poem,
On day three of said three day weekend.

There was a collector named Mach.
He couldn't post without talking smack.
He didn't win the silver coin.
And now he's a sad lion.
Maybe later in the week he'll come back.

Sorry Dan, it’s impossible for me to come up with a limerick that would pass muster with the moderator. Not in my DNA.
