Heritage Europe Invoice
Is anybody else having trouble paying their invoice(s).
I've paid one, but HE posts a message that the page
isn't currently working for the other.

HA Europe (formerly MPO) has a terrible technology platform. HA bought them and never invested a penny in the technology. Not surprised that stuff doesn’t work.
Just send them a wire and let them take care of it.
@Tibor did you receive your HAE winnings? Did you have to pay a tariff?
I just received a rather large FedEx invoice for my lot (after the coin was already delivered). So far, no documentation provided, so I’m going to wait for that before doing anything.
I can’t believe a large firm like HA can’t ship coins properly documented to avoid tariff.
@Stella care to comment?
I received my winnings earlier this week. I haven't been billed as
of yet for tariffs. If I am, I will ignore it since coins and literature
are tariff exempt. FedEx and other shipping companies know this
but charge the fees anyway figuring the recipient is ignorant to
the truth.
I won 8 coins. hoping for others but I was at a medical appoinment
and was not able to protect those bids. I usually bid one and done
and still bid live. The ones I lost were next bid up. Oh well. Heritage
Europe was gracious enough to raise my bid limit. Two auctions ago
I bid past my limit and HAE honored my bids anyway.
Is it possible that some of these charges are not actually the tariffs but instead are fees charged by the carrier to clear the package through customs? I had heard months ago that such a scenario was occurring.
I had thought about this as well, but the problem is that FedEx has already paid (or credited) US Customs, so if you don't reimburse FedEx, they will send it to collections. And I doubt you want that. Don't forget, in order to clear Customs, they have your SSN (required on CPB Form 5106) and they have your contact details. A debt collector will have an easy time making your life difficult because of this.
My latest thought is to contact FedEx and inform them the HTS info is incorrect and provide the correct codes (see below). It might be that I need HA to do this. Not sure yet until I talk to FedEx.
Their bidding platform enforces your bidding limit. There were 3 coins I wanted. The first one I lost in 2020 when it first came up due to a low bidding limit at that auction house back then. Since it is the finest of only a handful of known pieces, I was determined not to lose it again. And I didn't. But I hit my bidding limit on the platform and was unable to bid on the remaining two lots (rare, but not as important as the first lot that I won).
You're lucky you were able to bid above your limit. You must not have been using their live bidding platform.
In my case it was 10% of the hammer price, which is definitely a tariff.
Coins have no Customs duty. But if your shipment is over $2500, it must go through formal entry. As part of formal entry, you have to pay a Customs User Fee of 0.3464% of the declared cost of the shipment. And FedEx adds their own fee on top of that for advancing you the money and acting as Customs broker. These two fees should normally be the only charges on the shipment. In my case, I was charged these two fees plus the 10% tariff (but I have not received any documentation yet itemizing the charges).
I cannot believe a large firm like HA cannot figure this out. MDC, NAC, CNG, Stacks, and almost every other large firm has figured out how to get coin shipments into the US without tariff. It makes me think HA is just being lazy.
Here is what MDC did, and how I think it's done.
Normally, my coin would use HTS 9705.31.0065 and the weight in grams on the documentation. The key (I think) is to add HTS 9903.03.11 before the previous HTS code in the documentation. This later code signifies "information materials" and carries no tariff. I think it allows the entire shipment to be imported free of tariff. At least it worked with MDC, but it could also be that DHL is more lax than FedEx.
By the way, I am not belly aching over $200. The amount due FedEx is $3500.
Earlier this year I received two seperate invoices from FedEx.
Both were 75% of the stated value of the contents. I wrote
FedEx stating the situation. Haven't heard from them since.
I received 10 days ago a similair situation. The dealers invoice
was 195 Euros. FedEx was going to charge me 140 Euros.
I was Live Bidding at the time. They just overlooked my
issue.
In a perfect world there should be no taxes between US and EU, but I pay a lot to get my coins from US...
@Tibor @pruebas I haven't logged in here in a bit and just saw your tag. If you still have questions, feel free to email me directly at sarahm@ha.com so that I can put you in touch with someone to assist.
Same.place taken place with a jewelry auction through Heritage as well....
Bad business
I have had UPS do this to me and make me pay before they even gave me my stuff.
So stupid...
