Updates:
EAGAN, Minn. — Two Minnesota men are facing criminal charges after allegedly stealing $374,000 worth of silver from a home in Eagan last month.
Braidy Glen Allen, 38, of Champlin and Christopher Lee Brandt, 42, of Marshall, are each charged with one count of first-degree burglary and one count of theft over $5,000.
According to the complaint, the pair broke into an Eagan home on April 17 and stole several silver bars from the basement. The complaint indicates Allen was aware of the bars after previously living with the homeowners. In all, the complaint states about 4,300 ounces of silver were stolen from the home.
After investigators alerted gold and silver purchasers in the Twin Cities metro, a metals dealer contacted investigators after discovering it had purchased a silver bar with a matching serial number from a coin shop in Anoka, where the owner identified Brandt as the seller. From there, the complaint states that investigators were able to track Brandt's license plate, which was also tied to another silver transaction at a separate business.
Police then visited Allen's home in Champlin on April 23, where they discovered various metals and a smelting pot, according to the complaint. That same day, Brandt and Allen were arrested by Mille Lacs Tribal Police and booked into the Dakota County Jail. The complaint states that investigators noted Brandt had a "bluish residue on his hands which may have come from melting down the stolen silver." Investigators also obtained a warrant to search Brandt's car, where they discovered a silver bar, two copper-colored metal bars, and a substance believed to be methamphetamine. However, both Brandt and Allen were released "pending further investigation," according to the complaint.
A witness came forward on May 5 and told investigators how the burglary was allegedly carried out, and how the evidence was hidden at his home and others, and moved multiple times over several days. The witness told police that Allen planned to leave the state, and Brandt said he was going back to Marshall. The witness said the two men said his presence had made him an accomplice, and he was afraid of what the men might do to him.
A judge issued a nationwide warrant for the arrest of both men. Dakota County detectives confirmed Allen traveled to Montana in early May, where his mother resides. Authorities in Flathead County, Montana, have confirmed Allen was arrested there on May 9 and released on $35,000 bail two days later. Brandt's whereabouts remain unknown.

Pretty much sums up what's wrong with the system...the system can't afford to keep them housed.
Maybe try a stiffer punishment and work off the debt.
Time to experiment with the notion of a 'silver bullet' snuffing a vampire.
