Well, I guess the law of averages showed up. I clearly missed identifying this coin and bought it.
It showed up today. Working on a return. I must have been star struck and missed a lot of warning signs.

Curious... was this an ebay purchase? I've noticed quite a number of phoney coins being offered at just over spot silver prices... to the point where I'm not even searching auctions for lightly circulated Morgan Dollars any longer.

The good thing about EBay is it does not matter if they accept returns, you do not use that -- you use the EBay guarantee and call it fake and attach a few photos.
That way the seller gets to pay the return postage and you lose nothing at all, other than a little time that gives you an education.

Couple of years ago, bought a box of unclaimed packages online. One of the packages had a canvas bag with what was supposed to be 21 "Morgans" in it. Was greatly excited, until I opened it, and they were all stainless steel fakes. Such a bummer when stuff like that happens!

On a serious note, always buy in person when it comes to raw coins unless it is a known and reputable online dealer. You have a better chance of sporting a fake with your eyes and your hands than through an online photo. Sorry about your experience, treat it as a learning experience to avoid the same mistakes.

eBay denied my claim and said his add does not violate any standards.
So, I resubmitted it this morning with different pictures and data.
The seller said he’d send me a return label tomorrow even though his add says no returns. He never argued a thing. Just said ok.0 -

A guy came into the shop with a 2025 Morgan. He bought it in a PCGS holder. It didn’t weigh the same as another , so he cracked it out and asked for a breakdown (analysis) on composition.
He did not buy on eBay but from a dealer in the Carolinas. Watch your weight.2 -

A resolution has been reached. Just today I received an email from PayPal that I will get a refund.
eBay didn’t give a damn, one bit.
The scammer is still selling the counterfeit coins under different names and keeps changing. And, still using the same real photo. I can’t find it right now to post a current link.
I was thinking about stamping the letter “C” on my counterfeit coin. Would there be a better way to mark it? I’d like to keep it and use it for comparison and to show others.0 -
