SHARING LAST WEEK'S "EXPERIENCING HIROSAKI JAPAN" ADVENTURE

Hirosaki Japan was once the primary city in what is today Aomori Prefecture although Aomori City today has that role. During the Samurai era the Tsugaru Clan ruled the region and they built their castle in Hirosaki where it still stands today.

Hirosaki is also noted for hosting one of Japan's major festivals, the Neputa Festival held during the first week of August. This is not to be confused with the Nebuta Festival held in Aomori at the same time.

The below linked Video Playlist Highlights Hirosaki Japan's Must See Sites for anyone visiting in late April when Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom.

First, is Hirosaki Castle itself which is one of the few existing castles in Japan to have survivied demolishment at the end of the Edo Period and the destruction of World War II. Originally built in 1611 for the powerful Tsugaru Clan as a five-story castle, it was rebuilt in 1811 with its existent three stories. In fact it is the only surviving castle in the entire Tohoku Region that extends over six provinces from Fukushima to Aomori.

The garden that surrounds the castle with its plethora of Sakura is a highlight of this playlist as multiple scenes of its cherry trees in bloom, are included. Hirosaki stands out as the last place in all of Japan, excluding Hokkaido, where cherry blossoms can be seen in late April. It is one of the last major sites to bloom in Japan, Otten (as was the case this year as seen in this video playlist) at the end of April.

The playlist continues to provide a shared experience in being a part of the Nepiuta Show Case in Hirosaki. Located just a few blocks from the castle and garden is the site of a museum-like structure that not only provides Neputa floats for viewing, but also includes shows that combine animated floats with the sounds of samisen instruments. Related handicrafts are also demonstrated by the craftsmen who make the Neputa Floats and miniature replicas. All of this is included in this playlist as well.
