First time submitting a GTG coin. I don't agree with the grade but would like to see how the 'experienced' collector's grade this coin. Thanks for looking :) Jim

    It appears Gem or close to with the typical weakness in stars 1,2 and 12,13.

    @jgoetz4 It is also highly unlikely you or anyone would agree with the 'grade' on that slab.
    It's from an untrusted source and you are wise to treat your nickel as raw.

    Solid MS65 and maybe even MS66. If it looks like the photos in-hand it is a very nice example.

    A few more guesses than I'll post the grade as well as the ridiculously low price I paid for it about 3 years ago.

    In a major TPG holder, 65 shot 66.

    My guess is that the coin was graded MS67 and that PCGS would grade it MS65.

    Ok folks, first and foremost, thank you for all the responses. They are greatly appreciated :) And now for the price? I paid $60 at an antique store (Black Rose in Hanover, PA) After looking at it for 10 or 15 mins, I thought it would legitimately grade 64, maybe 65, on a good day if the grader was in a good mood lol. I didn't and still don't believe it's a 66. Thanks again :)

    I was going to say MS-65. It's almost impossible to give higher grades from photos.

    As they say about blind squirrels, acorns and maybe this grading company, "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once and a while." I have never heard of this grading company.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Considering what I paid for it, and what the 'sold' prices are on eBay for 63's, I may submit it to either PCGS or NGC. Currently, it's in my 20th century type coins holder.

    I think that it's a good idea to remove it from the off-brand holder. I know a guy who had some nice coins in such holders, and the holder turned out not to be inert. It damaged the coins and cost him a fair amount of money.

    I did remove it about 2 weeks after I bought it. I use plastic gloves even on my circulated, older coins.

    There is no way I would venture a guess from those photos. The person that ran that service was notorious for cracking problem coins from PCGS and NGC and straight grading them. Rotate the coin carefully under light to look for hairlines.

    It makes me wonder how many people this guy screwed and caused another collector to walk away from the hobby. They should be charged with fraud.

    Regardless of how strongly you feel about it, I recommend being more cautious in your accusations. It could cause you problems.
    Most of the guesses were within one or two points of the assigned grade. That’s not even always the case, with NGC and PCGS coins that are posted here for grade guesses.

    You should not take this as an endorsement, this is a true basement slab operation. However, even in the trash a gem can be found. This now has a CAC green bean, as I recall I paid $3 for this in the NNC slab.

    Never seen a basement company undergrade a coin that bad, I'm surprised it's not a 68. If it was cac it's a 63, PCGS 64, ngc 65 and anacs 65 details, questionable color
