I acquired the following in original mint packaging:

-2005 Canada Maple Leaf Palladium 1 oz "Test Coin B" Privy with mintage of 144 (290 total between A and B )

-2007 Canada Maple Leaf Gold .99999 1 oz "T/E" Test Coin Privy with mintage of 500

I would assume these unique pieces would command a premium with their low mintages. Anyone have any insight on these and the best place to sell them?

Is there an auction house in Canada or one elsewhere that specializes in Canadian coins? Perhaps some one can answer this. They are really cool. Where in the world did you get them?

I picked them up at a local estate auction. I’m not sure how one would be able to buy these in the first place. Maybe some kind of lottery or sweepstakes through the mint?

In 2007 they came out with the .99999 gold coin as a variant that they minted 13k or so. I’ve seen sales history on those at 6k ish on eBay. But these are the actual test run for those.

I’m unsure where serious Canadian collectors do business. There are a couple auction records for the palladium piece, but not a huge premium. Yet, eBay sales are higher than those auction records for the regular minted versions. My conclusion is Heritage or GC is not the right venue. Outside of eBay, I was hoping for another outlet.

I have never had any luck with coins at estate auctions. Often see crazy high prices. Decide what you want to let them go, add 25%, list on Ebay with BIN or best offer. Some one might bite. Just a thought.

Assuming they are composed of the precious metals they purport to be, I’m thinking the purpose was to test the laser engraving process.

The engraving was only on the “test” coins. From my research, the palladium coins were a test before they made them in quantity (first year for palladium). One group was finish inside of the mint and the other outside (A and B). I wish I knew more about what that meant.

For the gold, a test of the .99999 composition and limited design to correspond to the year where they made the 1 million dollar large maples (in which one was stolen and has not been found).

There is some information out there but much more limited than the US issues due to the smaller collector base. I can only imagine the premium if these were US Mint products.
