My turn.
Well, I guess the law of averages showed up. I clearly missed identifying this coin and bought it.
It showed up today. Working on a return. I must have been star struck and missed a lot of warning signs.

Wow. Sorry to hear. But even before the magnet, that one didn't look good (at least from your images).

Im glad to hear your returning it to
You are right.
I’ve been known to have small sip of bourbon on a Saturday evening and it looked really pretty for the money. Lol.
Totally my fault.
I appreciate the way that you own a mistake. Good luck.

Curious... was this an ebay purchase? I've noticed quite a number of phoney coins being offered at just over spot silver prices... to the point where I'm not even searching auctions for lightly circulated Morgan Dollars any longer.
Best of luck... hope you're able to get your money back!

It was eBay. I’ve had great luck if I do my part.
The good thing about EBay is it does not matter if they accept returns, you do not use that -- you use the EBay guarantee and call it fake and attach a few photos.
That way the seller gets to pay the return postage and you lose nothing at all, other than a little time that gives you an education.
Couple of years ago, bought a box of unclaimed packages online. One of the packages had a canvas bag with what was supposed to be 21 "Morgans" in it. Was greatly excited, until I opened it, and they were all stainless steel fakes. Such a bummer when stuff like that happens!
why did you take the image(s) away. leave them for educating others
I was informed my address was attached to one and could not figure out how to edit that. I could not see that when I looked at the pics but was messaged by a member letting me know.
EDIT:
I reposted. Can anyone see my address?
Run Run it’s a magnetic coin !!!!
On a serious note, always buy in person when it comes to raw coins unless it is a known and reputable online dealer. You have a better chance of sporting a fake with your eyes and your hands than through an online photo. Sorry about your experience, treat it as a learning experience to avoid the same mistakes.
You can use a photo editing program to blur it out.
Like this:
a little bit in the last photo
did they show a pic of that or a real one? link to ebay auction still active?
most low grade fakes are plated brass
they did a bad job plating that one. too heavy

and on phones the highlighter tool turned black can over-write it
Looks like the eBay seller used stock photos of a real coin.
Seller photos:
more and more counterfeits are sold using photos of the real thing
I agree, that's significantly different. The difficulty of buying something with "stock" images.

Especially suspicious when they have 10+ available with no statement that the coin pictured is the one you will receive.
Glad you have some recourse and a happy ending!
Thanks for sharing as this discussion may help others.

I’ll actually be there in three weeks. Guess I need to be on the lookout for a nice 1933 $20 St. Gaudens if the price is right…..🤪😂
You know what they about drinking and driving.......maybe you should apply that here, no drinking while buying
Hope you get your money back

eBay denied my claim and said his add does not violate any standards.
So, I resubmitted it this morning with different pictures and data.
The seller said he’d send me a return label tomorrow even though his add says no returns. He never argued a thing. Just said ok.
You submitted the photo of the magnet and eBay denied that?!
Also I’m surprised they want it back but glad it’s getting resolved for you. This was an educational post for me, thanks for sharing the story
Yes, I sent three of the pics you see above, initially. This morning I sent sent additional with my resubmission.
At least you knew how to test it. Some folks buy and just put it away not doing a minimum of checking to see if it's legit. Kudos!
Appreciate the kudos. But, honestly, the kudos goes to forums like this because that’s how I learned.

Thanks. I'll have to remember to not buy any raw silver dollars from Botswana.

I think it worked out just fine.
But they also say MORE THAN 10 AVAILABLE
listing shows 42 sold

A guy came into the shop with a 2025 Morgan. He bought it in a PCGS holder. It didn’t weigh the same as another , so he cracked it out and asked for a breakdown (analysis) on composition.

He did not buy on eBay but from a dealer in the Carolinas. Watch your weight.
