Exit Vrabel, at least for the Draft.
It's too bad sharks were in the water the second a drop of blood hit
If I'm Vrabel I'm telling everyone including Kraft that it's none and anyone's business what I did or didn't do, if you don't like it then too bad
He has enough money to say that and mean it just to.make a point
I'll never understand why people care about stuff like this.
When I was in High School, (mid 1970's) my best friend's father was having an affair while his wife was suffering from cancer.
You can bet everyone hated this guy. His kids referred to him as "PIG". My buddy refused to live with him and ended up living with an Aunt who lived in the neighborhood. His siblings were all over 18.
YEARS later, my buddy found out that Mom (Catholic) told Dad no more fun in the bedroom, don't want any more kids, they had 4. Dad said; "Fine, but I'm not giving it up, I'll go elsewhere" to this the wife answered; "That's fine with me." Later, she was diagnosed with cancer. Dad said he'd stay by her side during her illness, she said no go to the other woman.
Bottom line.
NOBODY'S BUSINESS BUT THEIRS!

Your right about the public figure for sure however Vrabel doesn't need to entertain it, he can say F off and let the chips fall as they do.
Yes I think he will be somewhat involved in the draft but then again some how some way someone will dig up a text or email or just open their mouth and that will completely discount his "Therapy" nonsense

The amount of trades was crazy. I doint understand half of them as the guys that were picked in half of them very likely would have been there 2 or 3 picks later they traded up for.
I knew there was going to be a lot of OTs taken, but seemed like every other pick was one of them and the funny part is theres still a couple left.
Not sure why KC didnt use the 2nd pick to get Patrick some help, but some very good WRs did go undrafted in the first so there is that. I get corners are very thin in this draft but the Dolphins trading up for a SDSU guy is questionable given the level of competition he was facing

He should have sat out the combine but decided to do it anyways on a broken foot and get surgery again. Supposed to be ready by June but I dont know what was gained by running the 40 when youre a DT. Hes a problem when healthy though even if theyre cautious with him and sit him the first couple games theres a ton of upside with him

I'm not a big fan of the pick - but I hope I'm wrong about it and he doesn't continue to have foot issues.
from everything i've read, he was one of the biggest reaches of the night. most mocks i saw had the Vikes taking the safety from Oregon to be the heir to the Harrison Smith throne. he was there for the taking. when Minny passed, my team ended up snagging him.

Of course there are exceptions where a "need" can be filled, but given the way the NFL operates today it's really easy to do that in the off-season with free agency and trades. One the biggest wastes by the NFL is the search for the franchise QB. The two making headlines today are Mendoza and Simpson. I can't see either of them being long term solutions

i have no idea with the Rams are doing. they're in win-now mode with Stafford nearing the end, and instead of giving him another weapon in Makai Lemon or Kenyon Sadiq, they take that mediocre QB from Alabama who is going to provide nothing until Stafford retires.
i bet the Seahawks & Niners were thrilled with that pick

I am absolutely concerned that he has hurt his foot twice. I am going to assume the doctor's report says he will make a full recovery and won't necessarily have recurring issues. No one knows the future.
I remember when we picked Adrian Peterson, who had 2 shoulder injuries in college and everyone was worried that shoulder injuries were so bad for a running back who got hit on every play. That worked out fine.
The whole "Vikings need a safety" thing was confusing to me right from the start. The Vikings DO need a safety, but they released 2 veteran starters at defensive tackle from last years team and need a big run stopping guy in the middle to go with our group of very good pass rushers.
I'm guessing this is Flores' pick. He's the smartest "football guy" we have and if he had the choice between the two and chose Banks, I'll hope he got it right.

I agree with you, if teams picked more guys who (barring injury) would be solid 10 year starters and made trades and picked up free agents to fulfill "need" positions, I think they would build better teams.
When you pick a guy who's not a great "football player" solely to fill a particular position, and he doesn't even become a solid starter, you have wasted a pick and compounded the problem because your "position of need" is still not filled.
Perfect example is the Vikings and their Center issues, they keep picking them high (Elflein 3rd round, Bradburry 18th overall!) and they haven't worked out. Of course then they picked up free agent Ryan Kelly and that didn't work out either. He was pretty old and had injury issues as well. Had they gotten solid starters with those 2 picks, the team would be better...... I think, you never know with draft picks.
Seems to me that very few teams take the "best available" player unless it's for a position they need filled for their roster.
When they do, all you hear is "Why did they take that guy? We needed a" fill in the blank.

Him doing the combine with it hurt was just stupid, its the same injury. He could play through it if he wanted too especially drugged up but there was no reason to for him at FL they werent going to make the playoffs and I really couldnt care less what my D Tackles 40 time is. If hes running 40 yards, especially in a straight line something has gone seriously wrong with the play.
The biggest stretch by far was Ty Simpson with Love being a close second at 3. I actually wouldnt even argue if someone said Love was a bigger reach than Simpson

There were better players available at 3 than Love, he wasnt the 3rd best player in the draft. Plus if you cant block a RB is worthless anyways.
Chiefs signed Walker they wouldnt have gone back at 3. Trading down or take a OT. I kinda doubt the Chiefs wanted to trade up that high anyways the traded up a little bit, but they had a pretty good idea the best CB was still going to be there at 6 which is who they really wanted. Their next pick will be interesting. Right now the best TE and an elite WR are still available. WRs dont seem to be too popular this year and it is kind of a thin group. Theres still some top quality EDGE guys if they wanted to go defense again, and theres still who arguably could have been the best CB in the draft with McCoy from Tennessee but teams seem to be scared of the fact he missed all of last year with a torn ACL

i forgot about Walker, who i do not think will be the same player in KC. that ruled out the Chiefs, but I can guarantee there were suitors for a back who is taller, heavier and just as fast as Jahmyr Gibbs is. again if I had been the Cards' GM, I would've found them.

Speaking of WTF? Why did the Giants draft Reese at #5 when they have four perfectly decent LB’s on the roster and passing on Caleb Downs who is an extreme need for the team at safety. Ok so they have the #10 pick. Downs right? Nope tackle out of Miami. The very next pick the Cowboys take Downs. Things that make you go hmmmm

Anyone paying attention should have already realized this is a weak Draft Class as evidenced by the number of teams wanting to trade down and the shortage of takers. As the best QB by a decent margin, Mendoza strikes me as a little above average, having the benefit of playing on a really solid team. Using my “best available athlete” I think Love would have been a better first pick.

As expected the Bills traded out of the first round. Cheaper contract from first round at 26 to second at 35. Evidence of mediocre talent after 15 picks. Bills didn’t have a 2, now have a 2 and 9 total after giving up a 2 for Moore.
Bills are already entertaining calls to trade down again.

Teams would be getting a lot of top 3 picks if they went by Kipers rankings every year
Gibbs is more explosive and elusive, but more importantly the Lions had a Oline, they had WRs, they had a QB when they drafted Gibbs as a missing weapon, Cards have none of that.
You can train guys to be faster and stronger, you cant reengineer their skeletal structure to be wider or taller. Theres a reason why teams can lose two or three RBs and still be alright but if you lose 2 or 3 OTs your season is over
In fairness to the Cards, this was a tough year to trade down from a top 5 pick. Too many OTs, and EDGE guys for teams to really want to trade up and extremely weak QB class. I still would have taken Nuss over Simpson if I was the Rams but no one was trading up for either

Its not really that its a weak draft, its just weak at the flashy positions like QB and CB. WR theres still a couple left but that was fairly thin this year
Most of the trades teams didnt really move very far down. Theres not really any reason why a team shouldnt move down a few spots for an extra pick when the OTs, and EDGE guys are so plentiful they will still be able to get one of them they like or get one of the WRs or something with everyone else taking the OTs and EDGEs

After releasing both starting defensive tackles Allen and Hargrave, and now trading Edge rusher Greenard, the Vikings had much more need (in my opinion) on the D line than at Safety.
Pick #1 Caleb Banks, DT, 6'6" 327. He's a BIG gamble, top 10 rating before foot injuries limited him to 3 games last year and reinjuring it at the combine. I worry about a big guy with foot problems playing most of his games on turf, BUT if his foot heals completely, (supposed to be fine by training camp) he's going to be a stud! I would imagine we had a doctor look at his foot before using our top pick on him. Many Facebook geniuses HATE this pick.
Jake Golday, #2 LB, 6'4" 240. Former edge rusher with " FANTASTIC run and chase speed". Flores loves these kind of players.
Dominique Orange #3a, 6'2" 322 DT. Strictly a run stopper. Vikings were poor at stopping the run last year. Good choice in my opinion. He's supposed to have no pass rush ability. We have plenty of pass rushers. We need to get better at stopping the run.
Caleb Tiernan #3b, OT 6'8" 323 GIANT offensive lineman. He has short arms. Lots of people seem to be VERY concerned about O line guys with short arms! Some have said he can move inside, others say that's going to be hard for him. I wanted help on the O line. I like the pick. When our starters were hurt, our back ups on the O line didn't perform well. If this guy can't start, hopefully he can be a solid backup.
Jakobe Thomas #3c, S 6'1" 211 OK we got a Safety! Apparently a big hitter. Another attacking defender for Flores! Hope he's great, I can't get too excited about a Safety, Apparently Flores wasn't worried about it either The guy everyone else wanted; Thienamen, was there when we took Banks with our first pick. A potential game changer at DT has a lot more value than a great Safety.
No pick in round 4, two picks in round 5 (probably not going to be impact players, but you never know), no round 6 picks and two round 7 picks that probably won't make the team.
Looks like the Vikings are looking to get back to a "Purple People Eaters" kind of defense!
I'm assuming part of the reason Flores stayed with the Vikes (THANK GOD!) was he was going to get to have a lot to say in the draft.
Vikings saved a TON of money moving Greenard who signed a $100 Million contract extension with the Eagles after a pretty disappointing season last year, just 3 sacks in 12 games after a couple of terrific seasons of 12 sacks. We should have some cap space now. Would have liked to have gotten a 2nd round pick for him, but that was the best offer, I guess. I hate to give him up, but the salary cap makes decisions for us.
Big gamble on Banks, I really like the next two picks! After that, it's hard to say what they will do.
LOVE that we are trying to improve the DEFENSE!

Initially, I hated the Vikings pick at #18. I've since learned that the bone he broke is away from ligaments & cannot be chronic. It really wasn't a good idea for him to come back to finish out a meaningless Florida season & not have it healed going into the combine. It scared off others - now he has to go prove himself - he still has a thin resume' at age 23 in starting just 24 games. He's a project & he better have the fire/desire to put in the work.
Now that I see their #51 Linebacker pick (Golday) , their #82 DT pick ("Big Citrius") and their #98 Safety pick (Thomas) -- it's all coming together. They're versatile/athletic/younger/stronger and cheaper on the payroll. Said he went into workout everyday at Cincinatti at 5am -- this guy is going to set examples. Cashman/Golday is their best linebacker combo since Kendricks & Barr in their hey day.
I LOVE that they dumped Greenard's contract given their cap situation and think that the value in return was great to get a 3rd yesterday & another next year, it what is to to be a much deeper/stronger draft class. He's not worth $100 million over 4 years and as stated above, we needed to free up space for other needs.
I'm also super-happy they've avoided the hard-to-project cornerback & WR positions. Get those on the FA market.
Today, I'd like to see a Running Back, Center/Guard, and more depth across the board. They have had a thin roster forever.
In summary, I don't see how in the world you don't make the interim GM, permanent and continue to give more influence to KOC and Flores. It's probably that Flores condition to return as DC was for them to fire KAM (GM) and give him the pieces he needs to succeed.
Edited to add: the CB from TN's knee has some type of bone-plug issue that will eventually require another knee surgery, but not one that affects the ACL. However, the surgery he needs requires a year of recovery and if the procedure doesn't take, his career would be over, as they have to take bone/cartlidge from another part of the body that needs to "take" to solidify the knee. Sounds like he's a ticking time bomb, health-wise.

GREAT news! It might not have been a good idea looking back on it, but it shows the guy wants to compete, I would say.

So I looked into the McCoy thing with the cartilage repair. They already did that procedure and actually I had that done during my playing career and its held up fine (knock on wood). He'll likely get arthritis earlier than normal and maybe lose a few years at the end of his career but that surgery is only a 4-6 month recovery time if it has to be redone later on. Thats for normal people, not pro athletes that get way better care
Unless theres more that isnt being said it seems like teams are just playing chicken with each other counting on the other teams not to take him and get him cheaper later on. Its getting close to the part of the draft if it isnt already there where hes just going to tell teams not to draft him and hed rather be a free agent.
Knee concerns or not Im certainly taking him in the 3rd round. Like what are we doing here, the Jags drafted a DB from Maryland in the 3rd who wasnt even expected to get drafted at all meanwhile McCoy is still on the board

HEY! It's like that here in Minnesota too. Maybe when you lose 4 Super Bowls it causes to turn a LOT of fans into whining, crying, kitties (and you know I don't mean kitties). Most teams haven't even played in 4 Super Bowls, that's better?
The crying here over our #1 pick was unbelievable! He was a top 10 pick before hurting his foot. I'll go out on a limb and guess the Vikings looked into his injury.
Most of them also hated every other guy we picked. Flores has put together a great defense with virtually no top draft picks other than Dallas Turner.

The only real pick for Vikings fans to be mad about is the Stephan F Austin one. I dont want a CB facing real competition for the first time at the NFL level. But that was a 5th round pick anyways so who really cares. What were they really supposed to do anyways take Coleman Jr and get another WR which is the last thing they need.
Looks like the two Navy guys will be able to join the teams immediately without having to serve first

I would be worried if someone who called that maybe their favorite pick in the draft agreed with me.
A top 15 pick went in the 4th round, a potential impact edge that had some consistency issues went in the 4th round, a 6'4 wr with speed with in the 3rd round,
CB was not a deep position and he was the 20th one taken in the 5th round in a draft that was bad for QBs, thin at DB, and pretty thin at WR. So yea teams obviously didnt vehemently disagree with me

I think it was initially developed by the Cowboys in the 80's as a guide for draft trades
Exit Vrabel, at least for the Draft.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
I know nothing about what went on with Vrabel and don’t want to know, I only know that once someone becomes a public figure that the rules change.
In the whole scheme of things does anyone think he won’t be involved in the Draft??
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin

RB at 3 is wild
Fire AJ Preller
Vikings actually did what I wanted! Picked a stud Defensive Tackle.
Hope his injury problems are behind him. Kind of scary for a big guy to have foot problems, but I'm sure the Vikings had it checked out!
I'm glad the Patriots went with a Left Tackle, move Campbell to guard and give this kid a shot to protect Maye better
I'm not a big fan of the pick - but I hope I'm wrong about it and he doesn't continue to have foot issues.
iam not ready to give up on Will just yet, but agree that i am very happy they went with OL with that first pick!!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
in todays NFL, RB at 3 is a little crazy
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Fire AJ Preller
He should have sat out the combine but decided to do it anyways on a broken foot and get surgery again. Supposed to be ready by June but I dont know what was gained by running the 40 when youre a DT. Hes a problem when healthy though even if theyre cautious with him and sit him the first couple games theres a ton of upside with him
Fire AJ Preller
from everything i've read, he was one of the biggest reaches of the night. most mocks i saw had the Vikes taking the safety from Oregon to be the heir to the Harrison Smith throne. he was there for the taking. when Minny passed, my team ended up snagging him.
I tend to be old school when it comes to the Draft: pick the best available athlete and you will improve the overall make-up of your team.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
i have no idea with the Rams are doing. they're in win-now mode with Stafford nearing the end, and instead of giving him another weapon in Makai Lemon or Kenyon Sadiq, they take that mediocre QB from Alabama who is going to provide nothing until Stafford retires.
i bet the Seahawks & Niners were thrilled with that pick
not when you're the Cardinals. worst team in football with holes everywhere. take the best player on the board and that's who Love was at 3
if i had been their GM i would traded down and wrestled multiple first-rounders from someone. the Chiefs had two and might have bit to give Mahomie a back he probably covets
I saw this and thought it was FANTASTIC! We'll certainly see how this one turns out!
Banks doesn't deserve a "D" based on his playing ability. I heard the radio guys yapping about this yesterday, and if his foot problems are behind him, he's an absolute MONSTER!
GO VIKINGS!
Fire AJ Preller
Fire AJ Preller
i forgot about Walker, who i do not think will be the same player in KC. that ruled out the Chiefs, but I can guarantee there were suitors for a back who is taller, heavier and just as fast as Jahmyr Gibbs is. again if I had been the Cards' GM, I would've found them.
Learning how to block is much easier than learning how to run 4.36 at 215 pounds
Love was the best player available at 3
Kiper had him as the 2nd best player in the entire draft
Speaking of WTF? Why did the Giants draft Reese at #5 when they have four perfectly decent LB’s on the roster and passing on Caleb Downs who is an extreme need for the team at safety. Ok so they have the #10 pick. Downs right? Nope tackle out of Miami. The very next pick the Cowboys take Downs. Things that make you go hmmmm
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," --- Benjamin Franklin
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Fire AJ Preller
Its not really that its a weak draft, its just weak at the flashy positions like QB and CB. WR theres still a couple left but that was fairly thin this year
Most of the trades teams didnt really move very far down. Theres not really any reason why a team shouldnt move down a few spots for an extra pick when the OTs, and EDGE guys are so plentiful they will still be able to get one of them they like or get one of the WRs or something with everyone else taking the OTs and EDGEs
Fire AJ Preller
Thats brutal for Hood. Coming off a knee injury now gets to go play on that awful turf in Jersey that eats up knees and achilles
Fire AJ Preller
Did something go wrong with McCoys knee surgery that I missed? How is a guy that was going to be a top 15 pick still not drafted going into the 4th round from just an ACL surgery almost a year ago
Fire AJ Preller
I don't think we got enough for Greenard but at least we checked some boxes in our 'need' category for rounds 1 & 2.
Day 1 estimates were 320,000 people were in Pittsburgh attending the draft. I'm a football fan but I would not go to something like that...
if i wanted to see 32 picks in 3 hours, i'd buy a ticket to watch Geno Smith play
Something about the meniscus damage resulting in long term injury. Apparently the ACL surgery went well.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
320k people watching someone read a name off a piece of cardboard. Then watch a player walk down a hall, pose in a mirror and take pictures, asked the same dumb questions. After 20 players no one knows who is who. Just about the most boring 3 days of the NFL.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Shane Conlan either has problems or was really nervous. I don’t think anyone could screw up announcing a name worse. The Bills 35 (not 35th) pick in the 2016 is.
Wrong decade Shane.
"I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, and gambling. The other half I wasted.
Vikings going DEFENSE in draft!
GO VIKINGS!
Erik
GREAT news! It might not have been a good idea looking back on it, but it shows the guy wants to compete, I would say.
You wait, he's going to be DOMINANT!
I can't wait for a loaded defense coached by Brian Flores!
IT'S GOING TO BE EPIC!
Can't wait to OBLITERATE the Packers, yes the Bears and Lions too.
Fire AJ Preller
Well Raiders finally took McCoy. Steal of the draft if hes healthy.
Thompson for the Chargers was a great pick too. That guy can fly

I’m on a Bills Mafia group on Facebook. Granted most probably don’t know Sh$t from shineola. Most are most likely bandwagon fans for the last 6 years unlike me from 1963.
It amusing me to know end the knowledge these arm chair GM’s think they know. It’s actually comical to criticize every single draft pick. Boy I wish I had the millions these fans make GMing from their basements. Eating hot pockets in their underwear. Actually it’s Sunday and I think their mothers kicked them out of the house so she can wash their sheets.

I dunno why Bills fan would be complaining their draft was fine. Cards and especially Rams fans have a reason to be upset with the Rams throwing their first 2 picks away when they only had 5 total

GO VIKINGS!
Same thing with the hockey team. My buddy turned the game off after Dallas had a couple of good (well, GREAT) shifts by Dallas and missed a great comeback and some tremendous goaltending. GREAT PLAYOFF HOCKEY GAME!
Looks like the two Navy guys will be able to join the teams immediately without having to serve first
Fire AJ Preller
people who do this for a living vehemently disagree with you
I would be worried if someone who called that maybe their favorite pick in the draft agreed with me.
