    No. I tried as hard as I could with my daughter who showed just a little interest in collecting state quarters when those were still being issued. But as she got older, she finally said she didn’t have any interest. Now married, her husband doesn’t either. A grandchild is on the way, so maybe some hope there, but I doubt it. Accordingly, I have been slowly liquidating my collection and am enjoying the proceeds myself! It makes no sense to pass them on to others who don’t want them and leave them the burden of liquidating them.

    No. I gave my three pre-teen grandkids a Lincoln album and 5 rolls of cents. Not one of them searched the rolls.

    A couple of my nephews are moderately interested in coins, nothing in depth, but they go gaga whenever I gave them coins for Christmas or Birthday, even as adults. These 2 in particular have a decent interest and have kept all coins I ever gave them, but they don’t get into them enough to research them or buy them on their own. One is mainly interested because his father hoards bullion and has traded them for things like vintage cars and whatnot. The other one treasures the coins I gave him and keeps them in a safe. They are grown up with wives and kids, none of my great nephews or nieces are interested as far as I know. I don’t have any kids, so that’s why I consider my nephew, niece and their spouses and kids as heirs.

    Oh, and Mrs_Spud collects too and was the secretary of the Charlotte Coin Club about 20 years ago when we lived in Charlotte. She cultivated good relationships with several coin dealers and she knows how to sell them through them if she chooses to. She is my main heir, of course, but if I pass first (I’m like 10 years older than her), she knows which nephews to give some of my coins to.

    One of my sons does not actively collect coins but if he were to inherit my collection I think he would keep it. He's not the type that sells stuff. I think it get passed to my grandson.
    I have talked with him about it.
    I have another son. Chances are if I gave it to him he wouldn't care about it or take care of it properly so it goes to my youngest son.
    Maybe its not fair but its not about the value to my youngest.

    I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, but others might disagree. Sure, there's probably some decline in the hobby that may continue as older collectors phase out and interests shift, but that poll alone is not strong evidence of it. An 80/20 split on whether heirs are interested in coin collecting says more about how hobbies are passed down than about the health of the hobby itself.
    Collecting passion usually isn’t hereditary. Many heirs simply don’t share the same attachment that the collector had after years of learning, searching, and building a collection. To them, the coins may look more like assets to sell than something to continue. That happens with many hobbies and collections, not just coins.
    At the same time, new collectors are still entering through different paths—bullion, modern releases, error coins, metal detecting, YouTube, and social media rather than traditional coin clubs or inheritance. Younger collectors may participate differently than previous generations.
    So I’d say the hobby is changing more than dying. The fact that heirs may not want to continue a parent’s collection does not mean there aren’t new people discovering coin collecting on their own.

    No one to leave my collection to. No children, passed that age. Maybe my niece’s new husband, who has a small collection he built by himself. Or possibly 1 or 2 nephews who show some interest, but certainly not too knowledgeable about numismatics. I’ve tried to stir an interest, pretty much to no avail.
    I may have to split among niece and nephews.
