Question for bust quarter variety collectors
Do you rely on rarity ratings. Would you rather own an 1819 vf-35 B-4 R-4 or an 1819 vf-35 B1 R-5? Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

For the same price, for sure the rarer B-1. I actually already have one in ANACS VG-8 and think it might not be quite as rare as R.5 but B-4 definitely seems more common.

Depends on the die state of the 1819 B-4. It becomes more desirable as the die crack through the date becomes heavier. I've always wondered whether there are any of this variety where the date is obliterated.

The newest edition of bust quarter rarity ratings has the 1819 B-1 at R-4+. So, not a huge difference in price expected, but considering this used to be an R-5, it will still culturally hold a premium over the usual B-4.
But agreeing with @RichieURich above, a LDS B-4 has the critical die crack and could bring more money.

When I saw this post originally last night, I thought, whichever one has more character, especially if it's the LDS B-4. I forgot to respond.
I like the replies from both @RichieURich and @jacrispies here.
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

Eye appeal would be my first determining factor, then cost, and the variety. YMWV

The B1, hands down, late die state, that die crack is gnarly, so cool!
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
B-4, LDS with the huge cracks through the date! Its such a cool looking coin.
Love that coin, Scubafuel! Very original also! I once had one in a slightly later die state which sold very quickly.

Hi Rich how much later die state is there?
Thanks for the comments what is the highest grade anyone has seen of the 1819 B-4 LDS
The die crack was noticeably thicker to the right of the "9".

Thanks Rich
This highest grade for the LDS is XF.
Rich, do you have any images of that coin?
