It’s nearly terminal, but at the right angle this is my most colorful Merc. It toned in an old folder over decades, and I recently moved it to an album.

Not a great study for Mercury Dimes, I'm not seeing the FB
upgrade. In fact, from the photo's I'm a bit confused by the upgrade. Perhaps the S mint for 1940 struggled with the strike or some other reason the FB designation was granted. I hope some one can better clue me into the reasoning behind the FB upgrade. Most beautiful coin regardless. Thanks for sharing.

The 1940-S I still own and it still grades 67+. The 1939 was the one that upgraded. I didn’t think it was FB either but it is closer than the picture makes it look.

The first coin I ever bought specifically as a toner, almost 40 years ago, was a Merc. It's rather tame for my current collection of toned coins, but I still enjoy looking at it every now and then. I've kept it in its original rattler.

Yes, the classic! I remember when the "hoard" came out in the mid-90s Pinnacle had the only MS69 (at the time) and it wasn't as nice as yours...which I didn't see for a number of years later...addmittingly. Anyways...great coin...and a nicer one than the one I had for a little while (shown above).

No picture, sorry but I was fortunate to view the top pop PCGS MS68+FB 1943-S Mercury Dime in person at the recent Portland PNNA coin show ten days ago. It was an amazing coin with pastel colors on both the obverse and reverse.
You can view this coin in GC's auction archives for 1943-S Mercury Dime. My question is, "How was the coin stored for many years to acquire such color?"
It's worth viewing.

Here is a 1918-D MS65FB dime with some toning. While I think it's OK, with respect to the toning, it's not my favorite. For the rarity, however, I like it.
Not as rare but I prefer the toning a bit more is my 1943-D MS68FB.
@Mark in addition to the toning, I like the die cracks on your 1918 D.
My youngest son noticed my penchant for frosty white and suggested I expand my horizons. This recent acquisition was for him although I'm still not a fan.

@robec again bringing the heat! Some of those are remarkably similar to each other.
They do, especially the bottom four. I bought the four from 3 different sellers, 6-7 apart. The 45-S was my very first Mercury dime purchase. I bought it in 2013 on eBay. The 40-S was from an Instagram seller 6 years later. The 42-S and 44-S were from a well known Mercury dime seller/collector in 2020. I love that type toning.
