How About A Victorian Halfcrown? Not Much On These Boards

I try to participate on these boards, and do love all the Latin America but there are some other really nice foreign coins out there.
Here is one that IMHO ought to show some interest, but may in fact not.
Do any recognise this bit?

I don’t recognize it. But it’s a nice coin.
I tried posting Indian, French, and English items, but there wasn’t much conversation about them, so the threads die out quickly.
Here’s an item that I won early this morning at the MDC e-auction. It’s either a galvano of the obverse of the medal that Charles Pillet designed for Credit Lyonnaise, or an electrotype made into a decorative wall hanging. (Pillet designed the service medal for Credit Lyonnaise in 1910. The medal is 80mm diameter whereas this piece is 240mm.) This probably hung in some office of the company at some point. The guy is Henri Germain, the founder.
The reason for my interest is, of course, Pillet also designed the famous Horse Peso of Mexico, and this is perhaps another pattern (galvano) of his.
Small bit of damage where a screw came through the wood at 3:00.
Great looking coin… At first glance, I don’t recognize it either. I will say it has an unusually sharp appearance so it could be some type of specimen or pattern that illustrates a design modification. Terrific coin.

Yes, that one is a proof 1862 Halfcrown, ex-Spink and perhaps one of the finer ones you will ever see. Nobody is entirely sure of the reason for striking this or the 1864. Being a compulsive collector type, I got both many years ago - could not touch such coins these days. FYI, these two dates are much scarcer than the catalogues suggest in my experience.
But Pruebas is quite right in that there is almost a nil in responses on these Boards & am at the point of not really posting GB coins unless really fantastic. I have played "trapdoor spider" for over 30 years in collecting these bits....Oh, well.
Guess I will post my 1997 and 1998 Libertads when they return from hosts.

Nice coin. It looks like the usual but much sharper. Even the standard strikes are great coins to have.
I presume world coins are not discussed much on this board because their collectors don't grade them and there's nothing to be debated about what PCGS said about it. But obviously, it looks great.
My only Victoria halfcrown is a little later.
Ms 64, old white ngc. My only half crown 👑
Sharing images illustrates what exists and what is possible… And in hindsight, establishing what can be accomplished might be enough of an incentive for collectors to explore and undertake something beyond Libertads.

A beautiful coin, is this the 1862 Plain edge proof?
I wonderful piece of history.
Yes. All locked up and don't get to see but the pictures...

Speaking of Libertads, the HA Mexican Showcase Auction (online only) went 6 hours tonight, until almost 2:00AM Eastern. 459 lots. $645k sold.
What does that tell you?
I would suggest that there eventually could be increasing interest in earlier Mexican 20th century issues. Several series are still affordable and have artistic and historic merit. Seems that there is already a shift underway and it will be fun to see how it unfolds.

I can only speak for myself, and I’m pretty new around here……but after “seriously” collecting US coins for 20+ years I finally jumped into the world pool with both feet early last year. While I’ve found myself gravitating towards LA for sure (got crushed in last nights Mexican HA auction though), I’ve purchased coins from just about everywhere, mostly leaning hard into eye appeal (as opposed to scarcity) along the way.
My contributions are mostly limited to sharing my own purchases, asking questions, and a lot of “great coin, I love it” type comments mostly because pretty much everyone here knows more than I do about the coins we’re viewing/discussing. I’m happy and comfortable being my own authority on eye appeal, but you guys just have the scholarly side of things nailed around here (I know my way around US coins for sure but not nearly to the degree some of you do about your particular fields).
It’s genuinely inspiring and certainly a lot of fun to be a part of and get to soak in, but i know I just don’t add value in any of the scarcity/research driven conversations the way many of you do off the top of your heads.
So while I’m admittedly here to be a part of a community to learn, share my own pickups, and get to know other coin enthusiasts, I hope lack of participation in many discussions isn’t perceived as lack of enthusiasm or enjoyment.
Any by the way…..Gorgeous coin @7jaguars!
Grateful to see this thread! I've been working on completing a date set of the five silver Victoria Veiled Head coins (minted from 1983 to 1901) for a long time. I finished the half crowns, although I'm still looking for an 1895 better than my MS 62 copy. Here are the PCGS photos for some of my copies:
Exceptional 2/6 examples

The first two came from the same dealer in the UK. I had a program I managed in the UK so I flew there about every 3-4 months. I always made time to see him.
This one was one of the first ones I bought a few years ago out of a Heritage auction.
While not Victoria I did want to add this one. Same source as the first two. Interesting back story. My UK dealer was in France and stopped by a antique shop. They had 5 of the 1817 1/2 Crowns. I saw him a few days later and I got to pick the best one, should have bought them all!
^^
These are gorgeous coins. Love the look of all 3. Is make time to see that dealer too!
Sticking to the Victorian script

Victoria Young Head iMO are one of the nicest designs.
Beautiful British pieces here! These are some of my favorites to see.

I mistakenly posted the above to this thread thinking you were discussing non-Latin American coins, not just Victorian English coins.
Since it’s already been posted here, I’m going to post the follow up here. Please forgive the double incursion.
After receiving the above piece, I did a little sleuthing online. Sometimes you find interesting things this way (though I probably should have done it before purchasing it, rather than after).
Anyway, I ran into someone selling the galvano for the reverse side of this same medal. Since this is a service medal, there are at least two reverses that I know of. One for 25 years and the other for 30 years of service. Maybe there are others, and they may have utilized the same galvano, just changing the hub to indicate the number of years of service.
A medal dealer was selling this reverse galvano and I decided to buy it to rejoin it with the obverse already in my collection. It isn’t mounted in any way, but it completes the pair.
A half crown, just not Victorian. Apologies for the phone camera picture.
