Spring Battlefield Show Report (Gettysburg, PA)

I had a great time at last Fall’s Battlefield show, so I was glad to see that the Spring show dates lined up perfectly to let me sneak up to Gettysburg for a bit yesterday AM. I’m very glad that I did.
It can be a beautiful drive from my house in Northern VA to the Eisenhower hotel in Gettysburg…..yesterday was not one of those experiences. It was more like one of those drives where you constantly are shifting the windshield wiper settings but can never get it quite right, with some fog thrown in for good measure.
I arrived around 1130 and popped straight in after a $25 EB fee (which I consider to be very fair). Ready to go!
A lot of dealers were still setting up and weren’t really ready to present their inventories yet, but a few were ready to rock. This included Ed Roath (I hope I’m getting last name spelling right). Ed sets up regularly at this show and I always like his inventory. I’ve bought some awesome raw material from him before and his case did not disappoint yesterday. I picked out these 4 coins in around 10-15 minutes. All will head to our hosts soon enough. (Note: my pics are always terrible…..but I’m away from home at moment so these will be even terribler)

Next I hit up a dealers table who I hadn’t met before, Jonathan Pocius. He had some great toned material and I enjoyed talking toned coins with him. Was happy to work out a deal for this….
NGC MS 64 (CAC)

By this point Rob and Robbie from the Reeded Edge were fully ready to roll so headed over to check out their stuff and just catch up with them as I always enjoy seeing both at shows. I always seem to grab something from them, but I dont think I’ve ever bought 5 coins from them in one show.
My 2 favorites were a pair of tokens with beautiful color. Both are waaaaaay nicer than I can present unfortunately.
1863 CWT “The Federal Union” NGC MS 65 BN

Ca. 1877 Washington/Masonic NGC MS 66 RB

Also grabbed a really nice wholsome 06o Barber half in a PC20 holder and a beautifully toned 31D Lincoln in NGC 64BN that I will likely crack and cross, as well as a pretty 37 Lincoln in a PC67RD holder.
A couple of tables down from the Reeded Edge was another dealer I met and did business with for the first time, Christian from Owl Buy. He had a bunch of stuff I found very interesting and I was happy to work a deal for 3 coins. Here are 2 of them:
1832 10c (JR-2) AU 50 (OGH). I don’t think this has been to CAC yet. The reason for my thinking is that it doesn’t have a bean ![]()

I rarely buy 50s, but was more than willing to make another exception on this one as well, though it too will be cracked and sent to our hosts.
1823 CBH (not sure of Overton yet) NGC AU 50

Also got to snag a lot of 3 beautifully toned 19th century Japanese Bu that I’ll share in the World forum, as well as a pair of attractive PC 58 Peace Dollars that @Mr_Spud inspired me to buy from @lordmarcovans 7070 registry thread we’ve been hanging out in for the last couple of months.
I’ll try to post those and a few others here a little later. All and all it was a great day. I finally got to meet @MICHAELDIXON on my way out by literally asking him if he knew if Michael Dixon was around. His wife thought I was putting them on but I honestly wasn’t. Pretty funny moment, which he played perfectly by telling me he’d never met the guy before.
Anyways, I’d heartily recommend the show to other collectors in the area and I appreciate Mike and all the dealers and helpers involved in making it a fun show!

Thanks for your report and pics. I’m glad you had a great time. It looks like you came ready to buy.
Both of these from Gerald Krupa:
And these were from Halfway Coin Exchange. I really appreciate any dealer who brings a pile of attractive raw Japanese Bu to shows!
Your favorite dealer's spelling of "Peace" on the cardboard flip is enduring.
Sounds like a great show.
Sorry about the bummer of a drive there. Hopefully the drive back was pleasant.
Nice NEWPS!
Sounds like a good show.
TY for reporting. I like the 2 1922 Peace pieces.
One more raw purchase to share. I just got around to snapping some pics of this one. It too will head to our hosts soon enough.
I love Barber material with this look. I grade it choice VF20.
Edited to add: purchased from Honeysuckle Coins (great name).
Thanks for the show report @MEJ7070.
Some really attractive purchases there.

Kennedys are my quest...
Glad you had a good time and it was great to meet you!

Quite a haul. Some nice pieces in there too.
